The deal is, I tried to make a varied collection. Am loving neutrals and earth tones, though.

Got a beige ysl (preloved but great, and good $).. can use as an everyday
A nude "patent" Valentino nuage (found a deal).... great as an everyday tote too
A preloved vintage Chanel maxi in black lamb - very useful, versatile too.
A new taupe Tod's bag - classic, quality. Everyday useful too.

Then, a dream bag: new Chanel mint green lamb maxi (F/W '09). This is a love.

The other 2 new ones are the ones I debate.

to be continued have to stop for a moment

Although I think an elite designer is definitely worth the price you pay in cash... I have my hesitations about selling several of my bags for one in return... even if its amazing. I tend to get bored easily and love to be able to switch out my bags and spice things up... wear something different everyday (or at least as many different things I have before repeating haha) so for me... that would seriously cut down my selection of handbags and my variety, probably annoying me at some point because of being bored with my smaller selection.

Just a thought! But like I said in the beginning... an elite designer bag is always worth its price in cash... and I have to admit it makes you feel awesome too :)

ITA with you that having a very small collection is not for everyone - and I respect that! I personally would hate only owning 3-4 types of lip gloss of eyeshadow, for example. :smile1:

So I guess the "perfect number" and price point is different for everyone.

^ I have 8 and I consider it a small collection, but by most people's standards (mainly my family and friends it is large). Do you love the bags? Can you afford the bags? If yes to those 2 then I say keep them. If you do not love them than return or sell. That is what I judge my collection on.

I think that fashion_mom is absolutely right, gratefull. Keep what you definitely use and enjoy, no matter what that number is - it might be 2, it might be 7, it might be 15. Everyone is different. The point is to be mindful of the collection you are assembling and what you truly use. I personally wouldn't succumb to the pressure to make sure that you have "1 clutch, 1 satchel, 1 hobo, etc.," and a huge variety of colors just because that is someone else's idea of what makes a well-rounded collection.

Buy what YOU use and love...and if that means having a collection full of neutral bags and earth tones, then that's wonderful! :smile1:

PS: If the bags that you mention that you can still return truly don't bring you joy or you don't see yourself using them, return them. You will feel better.

Oooh, did you go with a red patent easy? A red Bays? Can’t wait to see!

Also a good reminder that I need to call the NY Mulberry store….

Damn woman!!! You are GOOD!!! :yahoo:

(But then again, you know that I have had Mulberry on the brain as of late). :p

I have been DYING for a Bayswater for at least a year, and have been thisclose to buying a black one many, many times...well, last night I decided to take a peek at *bay's UK website and there are many more Mulberrys on there than on the US *bay...and there I saw it.

A RED BAYS. For a wonderful price, brand new and from a PFer!!!

I of course got it authenticated before buying (there are so many fake Bays out there it is horrifying), and asked the buyer if she would ship it to the States...she is very nice, and kindly agreed. The bag is a special edition not available in the States, as it was produced for the Mulberry Outlets in the UK (but it is still a first quality bag). Among my dreams is to hit a YSL and/or Mulberry outlet.

So, I combined my love for red with my desire for a classic, sturdy bag..and a good price and voila!

I am beyond thrilled (the bag is simple - a gorgeous radish red with minimal brass HW), and so happy that I waited for exactly what I wanted. Something kept on telling me to hold off on the Black Bays (I had it in my cart at least 10 tens, I kid you not) and this is why.

And I will get the Alexa in a few weeks. That should be it, besides my bad-weather bag. I am extremely pleased. :happydance:

.... continued:

the ones I'm considering returning:

a Chanel jumbo flap, soft caviar in light grey -- it's really nice though, I'll prob. keep it
(you can get a flap anytime but this color I don't think I can get if I return it)

and an LV le radieux (oooh...) in verone - the taupe/ grey color. It was stunning when first laying eyes on it. They are almost sold out of this and aren't bringing it back in this color.
Of course I do love it, just doubting how much. Also, I guess I was raised to not have excess so of course my excess meter bell has gone off.

This is it though, not interested in any more bags at the present.

Loquita,

:) :) :) very cool! - the red Mulberry story

And thanks for your words- I will consider these things the next few days.. do they bring me joy? and will i be using them. Excellent.

Very good. I like this wisdom... not worrying about a certain type collection, or whatever...
just having those bags that truly bring us joy. And that we'll use.

Haha, yayyy! Though I may have cheated a bit because I saw your posts on the authentication thread on the Mulberry subforum :p

I CANNOT WAIT to see that bag!!! After I purge a few bags, I’ll be purchasing my first Mulberry and am sort of debating between a few things including a red Bays, so that makes me even more excited for your reveal!

All those Alexa reveals are mighty tempting though too….

Man, I am LOVING these bags that you’ve selected to be your perfect 4 or 5!

LO--You did it again. I am so happy for you!! Have you put pics up?

Gratefull--I underatnd have second thoughts based on how you were raised. That is great that you have those morals. However it is a good/bad thing you joined purse forum. Good because we can support you in your spending / bag loving ventures, but bad because it tends to make a lot of us want to shop. You are not hurting anyone by having a bag collection. It seems like you are having a moral delimma. Your bags should bring you joy. I have totally had buyers remorse before, but learned that really to most people excess is more than 1 or 2. However in the TPF world we are collectors, or simply just understand how fabulous a bag can make you feel. If you feel wonderful when you carry it keep it. Maybe just hold off on not buying anymore until you return or sell one. I have also learned my "bag identity" which means I know what I truly love and I do not need a over 10 bags sitting in my closet. However I will say there are some guys/girls on this forum that I would love to raid their closets!

Wow, fashion mom, you make so much sense! Love what you said.

Yes! A moral dilemma. That's it!

Thanks for your comments. Very very helpful. I am going to think about these things.

And as far as the purse forum, yes, good and bad thing maybe, but actually good thing! See- because yes, you all may be supporting us in our shopping - but see, you're also "qualified" to give me these answers like the one you just did, too. A non-purse-loving person wouldn't have the understanding to say what you just did. KWIM?

As far as wanting to shop, stopping myself is my problem. TPF isn't hurting me there- I could be out and see things and that would make me want to shop anyway.
I have no desire to buy more anyway, as I am satisfied. And yes, your rule of not buying til you sell one is very good. I am going to hold on to that.

I have enjoyed self discipline in the past even though it sucks (contradiction)

Lo...I cannot wait to see it!!! :yahoo: Sounds like it was "meant to be"!!

You really are inspiring me to think about my purchases...which is a good thing!
