Ever purged your collection in pursuit of one bag? How did it go?

I've really only been using one bag for the past year, year and a half. Every now and then I might use a different one for a day but always go back to old faithful. If it was just a little bit bigger it would be absolutely perfect!

I want to buy a new bag that is more perfect but haven't found it yet. I really like the look of some 49 SM bags but I like to see and feel bags before I buy. Right now I have three bags, two clutches/wristlets and a few odd other accessories. I'd like to sell at least one more bag and probably a couple accessories. Until then, just saving money until I find that perfect bag!

I have just done a mini purge and sold 3 of my 6 bags. I am considering selling one more--I would love to get a BV bag. I think my reality is that I use one bag during my 4 day workweek and another bag on my weekend. Do i really need so many that just sit there?!

Ugh I need to purge again. I didn't even think I really fell off the wagon, but somehow my collection has ballooned again. :lecture: I definitely don't want to bother with da bay or bonz so I've been pretty much relying on consignment places.

In terms of purging bags, I realized that my taste really has changed over the last couple of years and so have my preferences. So, this meant selling off a few bags I thought I'd always keep. Now I've decided that I'd really rather have a few fantastic leather bags (satchel, hobo, crossbody) and my Longchamp bags. Before, I had several function and just 'ok' bags and now I prefer to keep only what I truly love carrying. Doesn't mean they are high end or really expensive, but just that I really love them.

This is exactly where I'm at these days. I have a handful of beautiful leather classics that I adore, but I've sold off much of my previous collection and will probably sell a few more that I haven't carried in a year or longer. I'm done buying bags I only like...I have to fall in love. I've promised myself one new fabulous bag, but so far haven't fallen in love with anything that isn't extravagantly priced...so I keep looking. In the meantime, Longchamps are inexpensive, lightweight, well-made, indestructible, and reasonably cute.

I'm just curious if you and TejasMama are talking about the Longchamp Le Pliage or the leather bags?

I love Longchamp but I find the leather bags super heavy.

In my collection I had at one time a tonne of bags I didn't know what to do with them. I sold some and I have regretted some of the purging process as I now believe if I had have thought about the use of the bag more then they may have stayed.

However, I am now back to rebuilding my collection of bags and I have put a limit as to what I think is appropiate for a bag. It takes me a while to purchase a bag as I have to save up really hard as I am unemployed and what I sell on *bay goes into the kitty for purchases and I'm lucky my Big Brother gives me pocket money too.

Right now I have one handbag, one purse, one pair of sunglasses. I am rebuilding my collection slowly so that I can see what is missing and what needs to be purchased.

What I am hoping my collection will look like is this
Bags
1 wet weather shoulder bag
1 cross body bag
handheld black tote
shoulder hobo bag
1 evening bag (to be worn on the shoulder in quilted leather)
straw bag
Purses
long wallet
small wallet
Sunglasses
Tiffany
Bvlgari
Chanel
Ray Ban new wayfarer in black and tortoise

I am sticking to classic colours and styles so that they will never go out of fashion.

Yep, I know it might sound crazy to some, but I am seriously contemplating selling several of my mid-level designer bags in pursuit of the most expensive (obviously premium designer) handbag that I have ever owned. I currently own about 11 handbags, and would be selling 5 of them in excellent used condition in order to fund a single, very classic handbag in my favorite color.

Have any of your ever done something like this? If so, how did it work out for you?

(I also should perhaps also clarify that I have done substantial collection purges before and don't usually harbor any regrets. I prefer having a small to mid-sized, very well-loved handbag collection. I am the person that my family and friends call when they need help cleaning out their closets!!!)
I'm a natural thrower-outer. If that one bag will bring you more joy than the 5 closeted ones it will take to get it, go for it! Plus, you'll have more room :)

LOL, for the question that could never be applied to me.

I took 3 bags to a dress agency/consignment store 2 weeks ago, a well past it Gucci Jackie to make way for a new version, a vintage Viv Westwood that I had gone off since the latest plastic hideous monstrosities started appearing and a Tod's Mickey that suddenly strikes me as really similar to a Hermes Lindy I covert. I am already pining for my beloveds and could well be heartbroken if any of them sold. :noggin:

I've done it. And not regretted it at all!

I am constantly "refining" my collection. Right now, I think I'm at a point where I am actually happy with each and every piece I own as I've sold, gifted and donated the rest. For the last few "classics" on my list of wants, I'll just have to buy them outright. LOL!

I've always wanted to do this but its been so hard choosing what to keep and what to let go and my addiction for Balenciaga doesn't help either lol. I've attempted at purging my collection this year by selling 11 bags which is a tremendous effort on my part but only to use the funds to buy new bags I want. When I get the courage again to attempt to purge my collection I'll write here again lol.
