Well it seems that I purged a bunch of bags I wasn't 100% in love with to buy bags I thought would last forever. Come to find out, I was too afraid and uncomfortable carrying my premium designer bags and so I purged again! The difference was that I put all that money into our savings account, about $2500! Man, it felt really fantastic to make that big deposit into savings!! For me, my financial goals were more important than purses. Don't get me wrong, I still LOVE bags, but I am super selective within my comfortable price range! Plus, I feel that I feel like I can relax with my bags and not fret if they get dirty, scuffed, if it rains, or if (God forbid) I have to put it on the floor!!

For me, this experience was more about finding out what works best for me and I think I finally did. Trust me thedseer, you will feel better seeing the money in the bank once you sell what you don't use! :p

You are definitely right – it’s great to have the money, especially for bags I haven’t been using as much! I definitely have a good sense of what works for me now, and I’m paying attention to cost per wear. I have 3 bags that still need to go – one will sell this weekend, the others hopefully soon, and then I’m done purging for a little while. Will be down to 5 every day bags and 4 smaller – with less, should be easier to keep track of what I use, and in a few months I hope to reassess and maybe purge more : )

The good news is the bag on my wishlist is produced every season, so no pressure to buy it – it will still be there when I’m ready – and maybe by then I won’t even want it anymore!

Yep, I definitely notice that if I push a purchase off for long enough, I don't seem to want it as badly as in the beginning. Go figure.

I know selling can really stink... but it will be great to get some extra money! Plus, it's really nice not having anything for sale, if you know what I mean.

For me, 5-7 bags is the perfect number.

I'm still purging and sales have been kind of slow. I've been lucky for the most part to either make a little profit or break even but there have been some sales where I took a bit of a loss... However, I rather have the money than keep a bag I don't use KWIM?

I still have a bit of purging to go and I'm pretty much going to stop buying unless an HG or 2 pop up. I'm sick of the whole buying & selling cycle and I'm going to make more of a conscious effort to significantly slow it down.

I'm happy to report that I've sold much more than I bought since my last post though.

I shed roughly a dozen purses in my collection last year and achieved a perfectly pristine Stam off eBay. I never looked bag, I'm in love with the bag. I had done another purge late in the year but most of the funds went to purchase Lands' End outerwear on sale for the family.

This year I plan to purge another several bags. Hopefully I will have enough to cover a LV Delightful MM by summer...

p.s. ^ I never looked back, I typed bag instead :D

I still need to purge a few more bags, but these are the ones that will get the least amount of money, so that's probably why I haven't listed them yet. It won't be as "fun" to sell them. I'll probably just list them at bargain basement prices so that they will go fast, hopefully, and cover the new Longchamp I just got in Paris. I also have some things that I'll send straight to charity.

Then my plan is to reassess my bags once more and see if anything else needs to go. Maybe I'll wait until summer and sell off whatever I haven't used this spring.

Lol a just recently I sold all of my Rebecca Minkoff bags (4 of them) so I could afford a YSL easy bag... That should be arriving today or tomorrow :D Unfortunately though now I'm down to only a couple of bags... Once I get to the UK though I'm getting a Chloe and Bottega Veneta for sure :D And more YSL's of course!

During my ban, I originally started to purge my collection to obtain the Mulberry Alexa. Then I started thinking. I am really trying to downsize and just keep a select amount of bags in my rotation that I will use more often. I recently went on a Coach binge (A little upsizing, 2 cheapies at outlet, one at FP store), but before that I had sold many of my bags and was on a ban for a few months, so it all worked out. I will be able to use those Coach bags as everyday bags in my rotation without worrying about the outside elements. I ended up also investing in the LV Mono Wilshire MM which is now my workhorse and I have no desire for anymore bags and the desire is getting less & less. I agree with thedseer, after a while, I don't crave a bag anymore that i've been wanting. I lusted after the Mulbery Alexa for a few months and i'd rather have the money in my bank account. I could still stand to purge a few more bags that have just been sitting in my closet that are arm candy and aren't practical, everyday bags.

I never sold any of my bags, i feel bad selling them. I usually give them away to close family members, that way i know for sure they're going to good hands.
Same here. I love to see the excitement on my sister and mom's face when I gift them one of my bags or accessories. My mom can afford to buy designer bags, but my sis can't and she usually will help me around the house to show her appreciation.:smile1:

I gift mine away to my mom too! She can definitely afford it but she rather spend her money on jewelry and other things. I gave away almost all of my coach bags to my close cousins because i just couldn't justify selling it for a fraction of the price i paid for, so i rather just give them away. Does this make any sense to you at all? lol :sweatdrop:
