OKAY LADIES! I'm selling everything I have (bags and jewelry) to buy the LV Trevi damier ebene GM. I would die for it!!!!!!! Am I nuts? I don't mind owning ONLY that Trevi GM! It's just classy in my opinion! You can dress it down or dress it up.

I'm not partial to LV in the first place, so I can't give you an unbiased answer. The material the bag is made of doesn't justify the price tag. If it were a full leather bag, I'd say go for it.

How ever you decide, I hope it works out for you! :)

Yes, I did -- I sold a ton of my mid-level bags to fund one Chanel. I really love my Chanel and carry it practically every day, but the experience has taught me that my new bag really doesn't seem to be 5x better quality or 5x more beautiful than the mid-range bags I sold for it, even though it cost easily 5x as much. So I'm left wondering whether high end is really worth it...

Mrs.Mamma--this is such a good point. Sometimes it's worth it and sometimes it's not. The good news is that you own something that is still quite valuable, especially with Chanel's price increases!

For me, I don't really covet a high end bag, but I prefer having some simplicity so it's more the number of bags than the cost per bag. I am more comfortable carrying nice but moderately priced styles.

I can completely understand why someone would want to sell off everything for one or two more expensive bags if those are the styles they truly want and can see themselves carrying every day. For me, I just prefer a bit of variety--not too much but enough so that I don't get bored.

I understand how you feel, I had the same thought processes when I bought my first luxury handbag. I think that as long as you love the bag and it fits into your lifestyle then it is worth it. TBH, deep down I consider a couple of the bags I do own a reflection of my personal accomplishments in life. They have haunted me since my teens and now they have become a reality.

Enjoy your Chanel. You deserve it!

*BUMP*...

This is one of my all time favorite threads. While I'm not trying to save up for any particular bag, I do realize that I understand my tastes better and have continued to scale down. For a bit I collected a few extra bags that I realized didn't work for me so I am working to again be mindful of what I purchase.

I still like having a few different options but now I feel that the bags I own all get used regularly because I have scaled down and they are ones I truly love. I am also trying an experiment for the coming year to just appreciate what I have in terms of bags and accessories. I'm not calling it a ban; I just want to appreciate what I have.

Anyone else want to chime in?;);)

Thanks for bumping this great thread, TM!

I'm at the same point. I have bags that really work for me and I want to enjoy them more. It's nice not always being on the quest for a new one.

Last week I was tempted by a Proenza Schoeller clutch, and I made myself get all of my bags out and look at them, and then I played with my clutches (like a kid with Barbie dolls...lol) and ralized that I didn't like the PS bag any more than one of the clutches I already have.

I also decided to sell two bags that are too heavy for me, even though I love them they just aren't practical. It feels good to let them go. I'm in the midst of a divorce so I'm really thinking through what I want to take with me into my new life.

Yep I purged, twice in the past 10 months. I had accumulated a ton of bags over the course of the past 8 years, and when I moved in February, I decided a ton of them had to go. This summer, I went a little crazy and bought a ton more bags. I have since decided that I would rather have a very small collection of bags I truely love, rather than a bunch of ones that are just "ok". I sold off all of that as well. At this point, I have sold off almost everything I have in terms of bags and accessories. This leaves me with 3 LV's, 2 Coach, 1 Coach that is no longer in use (sentimental), a Coach small crossbody for going out, a wristlet, and wallet, and that is it. And I am just fine with that. :smile1:

First off, I'm so sorry that you are going through a divorce and I hope that you are ok. I imagine that this is a difficult time. :hugs:

I know what you mean about the clutches--and Proenza Schouler. I now make a point of going into my closet and taking a look at bags that I already have whenever I'm tempted by something. I'm at a point where the ones I have left truly are my favorites. There is nothing left to sell. I recently sold more items and felt really good about it. I put those funds toward one bag that I really wanted and am banking the rest for other things in the future.

I go through these purge modes where I want to get rid of all the things I don't regularly use. The tricky part is to not be tempted by new things once I have all that empty space in my closet!:graucho:

I went through something similar-I had bags that I liked but didn't love and realized it was time to let them go. It sounds like you have an ideal number for you and that you can really enjoy everything you own. Congrats!

This is great...love all your replies and thoughts.

I'm kind of going through the same things. I realized there are some high end bags I have that I love, but don't really fit into my present lifestyle, so am planning on selling. It's cool to come to the point of loving something, but feeling free to let it go, seeing the wisdom of not keeping something just to clutch onto it.....(haha it's not a clutch though lol) - ok maybe that wasn't correct grammar - lol
-- at the time, I absolutely adored these bags......but as I see them just sit at home, like in a purse museum or something, I will be happy to let them go, having the money to save or use on something really cool, and having the space freed up where they are sitting, too.

In the past I wouldn't have been able to sell them....loved them too much. But maybe something changed, for the good. I still really love the bags, but now I can actually let them go. It doesn't have to be like, well, I'm tired of it, so it will go. It's more like logic, just because you love something doesn't mean you HAVE to keep it...I can love it and still sell it.... finally getting to the point of truth/ reality: I'm just not using them....better to sell.
Some of them are just too beautiful and delicate to use much.....just have to keep reminding myself, this isn't a purse museum, lol.

And instead of using only bags to feel fabulous, maybe I'll use the money and get a really great camera. That would feel fabulous! To have something very useful and learn a new skill and capture memories too.
Feels good to get to the point of not having to have everything you want all the time, like an obsession or something.
Thanks for reading.

I love that you have a small collection that really works for you. I was at the same point a year ago. I want to get back there again. I'm currently at 5 bags and 3 or 4 clutches, and that feels manageable to me. One of the 5 bags is nearing the end of its life and I won't replace it.

I'm at a point where the ones I have left truly are my favorites. There is nothing left to sell. I recently sold more items and felt really good about it. I put those funds toward one bag that I really wanted and am banking the rest for other things in the future.

I have the same temptation! And thanks for the hugs.

Same here. And I love the idea of getting something else with the money, like a camera, rather than buying more bags to put in the "museum."

Great post! I love this part! We don't have to have everything we like. We can admire something and gasp! leave it on the shelf and go home and enjoy what we already have on our own shelf. Or just admire the empty space on a shelf!

It must be very freeing to think this way continually, especially for those of us who find lots of things to like. Doubly especially for those of us who like lots of expensive things!!
