Lo, I would totally return the LV and get the YSL red patent bag. Last weekend, my future mother in law came to visit and had a gorgeous black patent leather bag. "WHAT IS THAT?" I gasped and she told me it was a YSL black patent muse. Never having seen a YSL IRL, I have to tell you that bag was GORGEOUS! (How funny that I totally thought of you! :hugs:) Anyhoo, the patent leather was the nicest I have ever felt and I think the red patent would be the perfect pop of color on a rainy day! Just my 2 cents...

Thanks Antonia and jx!! I truly appreciate the confirmation. :D

Funny you should say that jx, but I have ben eyeing a red patent Muse like crazy lately...YSL patents are highly regarded, and every one that I have seen has totally floored me. Makes me feel better to know that you were impressed by your future MIL's bag (I'm impressed by it, too!!) And you are so sweet to think of me!

Happy New Year, all!!

^^ lol! I'm pretty sure I want the Twiggy. i already got a make-up clutch on the way!
I probably want a color, but don't know which one yet. I'll know it when I see it!

Oooo...I love the Twiggy. Good choice! And I am excited to see your new MU Clutch. Please post pics!! :smile1:

And I vote Bal magenta for you. You could totally pull it off!!

LO, I love this thread. It got me thinking about whether or not I'm really ready to do this myself. I went into my closet and took a look, and right now I'm not ready to, but sometimes I get thinking about stuff like this and the idea takes hold. Part of my hesitancy is probably that I haven't found any bags to be in love with enough to purge my collection for! Good idea, though. Even though I keep my bags in rotation, there are some that don't see the light of day for a few months at a time, which makes one wonder if they're worth owning. Eh. It's something to think about!!

Hi fabae!! :D

Happy New Year!!

And I am so happy that you love this thread...anything that gets us to be more conscientious about our consumption habits is useful to me. I am not anti-spending in the least, but I really am invested in voting with my wallet, which means that whenever possible I would like to purchase only from companies that provide good CS and QC, and whose products will stand the test of time.

In general, I have strongly favored mid-range handbags from smaller, female-owned design companies. With the exception of Treesje, however, the two companies that I previously bought the majority of my bags from (Belen Echandia and Rebecca Minkoff) have unfortunately proved disappointing to me in those departments, so I have elected to go back to the classics. This means that I will have less handbags (which is a positive change, IMO) but that they will be of better quality...or if I get a lemon, at least I know that the company will take care of the issue for me.

(I am well aware of the fact that even the big luxury houses have their own QC issues).

I've purged at least 75% of my handbag closet for one bag (!!). I'd been purchasing Tano, some inspired and import bags for over a decade (Melie Bianco, Besso, lots of Italian bags from TJ Maxx etc). I realized it wasn't doing anything for me. So I sold them all except for a number of vintage Coach and got my HG at the time, the LV Beverly MM.

Absolutely no regrets. I don't miss any of the other bags and it was so worth it to me to clear the clutter I had accumulated for just one beautiful bag.

I too like others keep coming back to this thread. You inspired me to do the same thing. I am in the middle of a purge which is a little stressful. You never know what may or may not sell or at what price. I need a certain amount because I am going to buy my dream LV. It is an exciting process though. I am glad you have done this because it has made me take a hard look at my collection. I realized..

1. I like my collection, but I do NOT have a DREAM BAG
2. Although I have started to become more of a "collector" always hovering at 7-12 bags I can't use them as often as I would like esp. since I have fibromylagia and do not leave the house as often as I would like.
3. That although it hurts to sell a couple--You and other TPFers made me realize I have never died from selling a bag, and most are easily replaceable (esp. if they cost less than 1 DREAM bag).
4. It feels better to have your dream bag than 9 bags you just simply like.
Keep this thread going LO it is so inspiring and supportive.

Hey fashion_mom! Thanks for your lovely message...and most of all, I am sorry to hear about the fibro. One of my very best friends who lives near me has fibro, and so I have a good sense of just how incredibly difficult a condition it is. :hugs:

And to those who are following this thread: I returned the LV mono Neverfull that I bought yesterday this afternoon. I decided to wait on that one (it will be there later, like most classics) and go for a red patent medium-sized YSL Easy that I found on *bay for a good price. I asked for more pics for authentification, and so far no word...we'll see what happens, but if I don't get the pics, it's no sale.

Today I went to Nordie's, and to be honest I went through the handbag section (one of my favorite haunts, muahahahaha) and they had some lovely stuff but nothing that even remotely tempted me, because it's not on my list. It felt great to be so focused about my handbag purchases. :smile1:

I wish you a Happy, Safe and (most of all) Healthy New Year!!

That is awesome you know what you want. Focus is something I have to learn too. However it will be such a since of acheivment when we get that ultimate bag. Thanks for the comment on the fibro too.

Wow, rainrowan, that's a happy ending!

I think you chose very wisely...vintage Coach is def. worth keeping...and just about any LV will last you a lifetime. I love the fact that you have the option of getting hardware and leather replaced on their bags. In my mind, that's the way a top-notch handbag company should be.

Wow Lo, you are inspiring many forum members to purge their handbag collection. This is one of the best threads I've seen in a while and that's why I keep coming back myself! You've even got me thinking of selling to fund a dream Chanel. This has got me now purging my clothes (again). I used to consign but now I give my sister in law stuff that I don't want....since she had my neice, she hasn't been shopping for herself. Plus it makes me feel good to help her out! I'm going to be a lot picker with what I buy from now on....my new motto is 'less is more' and I'm going to stick to it! :)
