Well shopaholic, I personally believe that a diamond pendant is so versatile you can wear it everyday! I have one, I think it's about a .33 pear cut with a diamond surround that I wear practically every day.

I am a minimalist with jewelry (only wear my diamond stud earrings, pendant, and wedding set daily) and have several things that just sit in my jewelry box unused. A few years ago, I had our family jeweler melt down a bunch of old pieces and gold to create a ring but alas, I hardly wear that either!

Selling is a bit of a bummer because it's so difficult to recoup most of your money with jewelry (from my experience)...

VintageLeather, thanks for the tough love!

you are so right...the value isn't there. I'm going to wait for it to turn up on eBay. I have other things to save for that are much more important, and I have medical bills to pay off from DH's recent brush with death.

Oh and about putting "I'm done" in my siggy --

For me, it's a way of being accountable. I want to keep reminding myself that I have plenty of bags, and I don't truly want any more.

Do any of you ever condition your bags as a way of enjoying them? I love handling my bags and taking care of them...It might sound weird, but it's almost as nice as carrying them.

Doreen, I get it about jewelry - actually I just got an expensive piece of silver myself. Personally, I see nothing wrong with it as long as it is something that really gets used and loved. But waiting for Ebay isn't a bad idea!

Shop1987, I'm just about to list a pair of gold Tiffany earrings that are beautiful, but I never ever wear them! I have a ton of other jewelry I don't wear, but haven't gotten around to figuring out which to sell (although ex-boyfriend stuff needs to go now that I'm married!) I think for somethings it might not be worth it for you to sell them, but if you don't wear it, go ahead and let it go. Maybe even you have a relative or friend that would love and use them!

Maybe have an item you'd rather have to replace it once your sales are done. (That really helped me, although in my case I bought my replacement first!) As for the diamond pendant - that is a very simple classic piece in my opinion. Try wearing it and see how you feel.

Thank you. This is my very first bag that I am selling, so I wasn't sure if it seemed odd.

Same here! Let's chat about our jewelry issue here.

Righs now, I'm resisting the urge to spend $800 on a John Hardy bracelet. It feels like an insane amount of money to spend on *silver* but it is so cute.

I don't think that's odd at all. Sounds like the buyer wants to make sure you don't sell the bag to someone else who arrives with cash in hand.

You could respond by saying, "It's easier for me to send you an invoice through PayPal", then go into your PayPal account and use the Request Money feature to send the buyer an invoice.

Thanks, LeeMiller! If I can get a handle on the other expenses I have right now, I might splurge on the Hardy piece.

About the ex-BF jewelry -- I gave mine to my nieces. They were thrilled (they were all 14 to 22 at the time) and none of it was particularly expensive or worth selling.

That is my biggest problem with jewelry - much of what I have isn't worth selling. I've collected vintage costume jewelry for two decades now. I'm more selective than I used to be - but I used to buy complete jewelry boxes.
This way, I purchased a 14k Omega watch for $60. Vintage Dior for$40. (that is what I paid for the entire box!) - and hundreds of cool no-name pieces which fascinated me.

The problem is, I don't have the space for it, it's never worn. I just don't know what to do with it. There just isn't the market any more.

This is where I aspire to be. To be able to go to my jewellery box and be able to pick out the pieces at a moments glance.

Maybe I just need to make more of an effort everyday to wear something.

Have you thought about selling the jewellery to specialist dealers?

You could take the watch to a watch dealer and the jewellery to a jewellery dealer.

Well it definitely does get easier once you start. And strangely I find myself really questioning new purchases and it's easier to talk myself out of another bag. So right now I have 1 LV, 1 Dooney, 4 RM Mini Nikki's, and 2 L.A.M.B.s. I've also cut my RM MAC collection from 14 to 7. I'm hoping I can get it down a little further to 4 or 5.

I just caught up on this thread and I've really taken the advice and tips to heart.

I'm proud to say that I sold quite a few NWT RMs that I never used or I decided weren't for me when they arrived. They all went to lovely ladies who really wanted them and are actually using these bags. I always go through a cycle of buying bags that just sit in my closet unused and then I sell them to buy more bags that I don't use. It was a neverending cycle for me and I really think about my purchases now.

I also keep track of my purchases with a Moleskine (love, love, love Moleskines!) so writing and seeing what I've been doing has been a real eye-opener for me. That reminds me that I should use another Moleskine to keep a food journal since I'm really trying to think about my long-term health. I digress.

I'm trying to save up for an HG so I've been going through my collection and selling what I don't use. I feel like it's kind of the end of an era, but I could use the money and the space. There's no point in any of us keeping anything that we don't use.
