Ever purged your collection in pursuit of one bag? How did it go?

^I have the same problem as you LeeMiller! I got a lovely H scarf for my birthday last year, but I've only worn it once as the colors just don't suit me. I love the design, but framing it is really no option for me, so I decided to get rid of it and buy another one that does suit me.

I agree with what is posted, its just limited edition, so I worry if I miss the scarf it will cost me lots to replace it. It does have good colors for me, as far as scarves go. Given my profession scarves are a good thing to have, but they don't seem to stay on me right. Maybe I will consult some of those scarf experts on the H subforum.

I think I'm going to focus on listing some other things first and come back to this one, since I have a list of things to sell on Ebay and its long!

I’ve had a tough time with my ban lately because there’s one bag that I’ve been wanting really, really badly that’s been sold out for a while now, but keeps popping up on bluefly sporadically. My extra funds right now are still reserved for moving expenses (and I don’t use credit cards for bags), but it’s had me rethinking my collection. It might just be the motivation I need to re-start my purging efforts, especially now that I’m starting to settle into the new place.

I’ve been trying to think to myself, “Would I enjoy carrying this more than this one that I already have?” I think the answer in many cases is “Yes.” I’m also still at more bags than I would like, so I need to purge some more anyway, just have to figure out what.

I haven't been on tpf much lately..I've changed my thinking to one great bag a year around my bday...and its waitlisted so I've been very patient since May!
I think the constant looking, etc..has really curbed for me..now I'm just interested in a couple of bags that I'll plan for...and in no hurry.

Thedseer..if you purge a couple you don't use..will that help to buy the one you think your loving? :smile1:

Completely agree, the last time I bought a bag was in April. I am planning my next purchase for October time and I am really looking forward to the new collections coming out so I can make a sensible thought out decision instead of one which has been impulsed and sold within a few weeks.

I have eventually found out the person I am and what I feel is a sensible amount for me to spend. I live in a part of the world where we see more rain than sun (although as I am typing this it is a very nice day outside). I don't want to baby any of my bags, be afraid to carry them because of how much I have spent on them and I don't want to carry a bag that is "common" in my area where everywhere you look you will see your bag being carried by someone else.

I wish there was a thread like this in the jewellery sub forum. I could do with the support as I have a lot more jewellery these days than bags.

I am definitely thinking about doing that klj, especially since it just popped up on bluefly again! I was thinking through my collection again last night, and don’t see why I can’t get down to 6 or 7 bags right now. I think it seems a lot harder now than it actually will be.

Shopaholic –we’ve certainly talked through other things we need to purge on this thread – scarves, books. This is a great thread for support!

thedseer, I think it's totally do-able to get down to 6-7 bags! After a while, it will seem like a lot. We just have to change the ideas in our minds about how many bags we need, and what we really want out of them (ie. quality/what works for us vs. quantity).

I am so excited to say that I have sold 4 bags this week! I have a few more to go then I will be officially off the roller coaster of buying/selling. I'm so over it and the obsessing.

Turns out the last fabulous leather bag I was going to get wasn't so fabulous for me so I'm returning it and am just going to wait till my birthday in January to find my yearly bag. It's kind of a relief.

So I decided to take the plunge and sell my bag.
I listed it on craigslist, and someone emailed me and let me know they are interested.
I told her the bag is still available. This is what they emailed me.

Is this odd to you?

ok, i would like to have your paypal email address, so that i can beable to make the payment for the item as soon as you send me thepaypal address.but if you do not have a paypal account, you can setupa paypal account right now through there website www.paypal.com, sothat i can make the payment right now through paypal, so let me knowyour decision.maybe you can do that now ASAP.

Same here! Let's chat about our jewelry issue here.

Righs now, I'm resisting the urge to spend $800 on a John Hardy bracelet. It feels like an insane amount of money to spend on *silver* but it is so cute.

I don't think that's odd at all. Sounds like the buyer wants to make sure you don't sell the bag to someone else who arrives with cash in hand.

You could respond by saying, "It's easier for me to send you an invoice through PayPal", then go into your PayPal account and use the Request Money feature to send the buyer an invoice.

You do know that putting that "I'm Done" in your signature is the best way for the universe to surround you with temptation, right?

John Hardy has some pretty designs, and very eco-friendly practices -
BUT
You are paying $800 on a bracelet that contains $100 worth of silver. (assuming $18 per oz, 5 troy oz per bracelet)
Is pretty worth $700? And then, how much will you really wear it? Honestly?
I have a collection of JH earrings and necklaces, purchased because they are "pretty." The earrings are so heavy, they start tearing at my ears after two hours. I only wear one pair, and that, rarely. The necklaces assume that I have a 15" neck, and a taste for the heavy pieces.
Again, I wear a semi-simple pendant.

Do you honestly think you will wear that bracelet enough to justify the owning of it?

Good for you! Klj, we are neighbors - I'm just across the river in The Couv. :)

That's great, aleast it gives you time to consider the bag you will enjoy to use. January isn't that far off if you think how quickly this year is going by.

Doreen and Thedseer thank you for letting me talk on here about my jewellery collection.

The most expensive pieces are my gold pieces (both are 21st presents) which are a diamond pendant (I love it) and a cushion cut chequerboard amethyst pendant (which I hardly wear). The other pieces are silver and are either plain or have gemstones in the designs.

My dilema is I have too much jewellery, far too much and not enough occassions to wear it. There are pieces that I love but don't wear, would like to sell but for some reason it is harder parting with the jewellery than it was my handbags.

For the past few days I have been wearing my diamond pendant but don't know if its too dressy for my more casual days and whether to buy a plain intricately design silver pendant for these days?

I feel like I need 5-8 pieces of jewellery at the most and at least that way if it isn't being worn I won't feel too bad.

I don't know what to do??
