Ever purged your collection in pursuit of one bag? How did it go?

How are you all doing with your purges? I am still trying but I have several that aren't selling and it's making me a bit sad. This bag market is terrible right now! I am thinking I need to start lowering prices more, ugh!!

I haven't been able to find time to get any of the scarves I need to sell listed. Too much else going on.

I'm doing good at resisting new bags, though. I have 5 and I'm sticking to that number. Saw a cute cosmetic pouch today, but I don't need it and there's no more room in my SLG drawer, so I had to resist!

I paused with my purging for a while – I’m going to blame moving, but I also just got lazy. Most of my stuff will be all moved by Saturday, so I need to get back on it after that. Now I just need to get around to packing.

All this time, I thought I would need to downsize because I was moving from a house to an apartment (i.e., smaller). Turns out my new room is huge, and I have more closet space/closet shelves than I’ve ever had before. I’m hoping that this will just mean that I’ll be uber-organized and able to see what I have, which will make using everything/purging easier. HOPEFULLY, it will not mean that I can justifying to myself buying more because I actually have more space.

I’ll also be living with two male roommates and no female roommates, so I’ll feel a little more ridiculous having packages coming in/a ton of bags. Though my current roommate went on a rant this weekend about how she thought spending more than $100ish on a purse was ridiculous and sinful. I hate that. I’m not sure if she knows how much I’ve spent on mine, but it felt like a bit of a personal attack. She probably spends more money than me, just on other things…

Anyway, tangent over. I haven’t bought anything bag/slg-related since 5/20, and have cut way back on spending in general. I have a bit of rent overlap which makes things tight, but I’m also just trying to work on saving a lot for the rest of this year and next. I think I’ll end up purging more to help build up my savings, and also I would love another BV – maybe around Christmas time which would mean a 7 month ban goal.

I don’t remember when I started aggressively purging, but my first post in this thread was January 2, 2010. Crazy! Would never have done it all without this thread (and now also the ban thread). Thanks ladies!

Sounds like you've been doing great thedseer! I am excited for you to get into a bigger room and have male roomies. (I had tons of roomies in college and my favorite one ever was a guy!!) So easy going, non-competitive and thankful for extra food, LOL!

And with your extra closet space, maybe you can do something creative like put up a picture frame with family pics--they tend to take up a lot of space while making you happy.

So I have actually taken a plunge (off the deep end, perhaps) and am selling all but one RM, which is 9 items up for sale. (We have already discussed the RM addiction and I am finally kicking it. I feel like a crazy addict.). I am so relieved to get this monkey off my back--I feel like having so many bags was very stressful as I would never carried them. I can admire them on others but it's just not realistic to have sooo many bags. This will leave me with 1 LV (bulletproof and classic, I swear), one work bag (D&B--fantastic, fits all my work needs), one clutch (RM), and my new leather bag, TBD. My new bag purchasing pace will be one FANTASTIC bag per year to be purchased on my birthday in January. I cannot wait until all my bags are sold and I am looking forward to the peace of mind of having absolutely nothing for sale!!

I have a lot of bags I don't really use, and really want a Balenciaga. I have an Alexander Wang bag that I have used once in one year, but can't bring myself to sell it. How do you talk yourself into selling it?

Chris, it just mentally wore on me to walk into my closet and see those bags just sitting there. I only use my work bag 5 days a week and my LV one/two days a week while the others sat there, with tags on. I just decided to let go of the idea of these bags and move on. The reality is that none of the RM bags have ever 100% worked for me. Why not sell them to fund something that works for you?! A big plus is that whomever eventually purchases them will enjoy them and that thought makes me happy too. It's such a shame to see them just wasting away--they should be with owners who will appreciate and enjoy them.

wow, you are doing great! i can totally relate to the RM addiction. i had too many that i didn't use, or didn't use often enough IMO. and lower price point = easier to buy on a whim. i've sold off a lot of mine, but still have a ways to go. the constant buying and selling and looking for deals just got tiring.

i really, really love your idea of one bag a year on your birthday. i think that will have to be a new goal of mine. if i can get to the point where i can really limit myself like that, the purchase will be much more well thought out, and more special. and since i've been gravitating more to bv, it will take me longer to raise the funds anyway :p

thank you as well! i'm really excited for the move. and packing all of this stuff is actually making me eager to get back to the purging process.

think about that balenciaga! selling bags you don't use = more space and money for ones you really want and will use.
