Okay so i just took a huge TWO big black bags full of things to charity, i sent ALL of my non branded bags too so i am literally down to 4 bags now, i really feel that maybe 10 is my ideal number, i definately do not get sick of getting different variations of black with GHw, i have a huge wish list full of them lol. but to me there is a different style for a different occasion/outfit/etc... :D

Yay! :yahoo:Good for you, good for charity. And it's nice to have an ideal number in mind as you start adding bags that work for you.

I always have a bag for charity going. I recently decided to get rid of some old nylon camera bags that I had lying around from my days of using a film camera.

Doreen, your new bags are gorgeous. I really like the blue, but that shade of red is perfect. Would like to see more of your collection.

Thank you so much! I'll have to start a thread over in the Bag Showcase forum. My collection is small enough that it won't take much time :p

Lovebags2 and klj – you are doing so great! Thanks for the updates!

Thanks klj and tejas!

I think that was part of my problem – it was tough to focus on what I wanted/what I didn’t want until I got rid of stuff that I KNEW I didn’t want – almost to that point now. Now that there’s less “clutter” (also cleaned out my room/clothes which helps), I have a better idea of what I have, and I’m finding myself rotating more – which is giving me a better idea of what I should keep.

RM is tricky – The new stuff isn’t really tempting me, but I love my old school bags. But the same CS/QC problems over and over again is upsetting. I’m also finding some of the bags a little heavy now (especially since I’ve traded some MAMs in for MABs). I know there are a few that I will not be able to part with, but I think I can slim down my RMs – just don’t want to do it before I’m ready.

It is really nice to hear that people who I’ve sold to are happy with their buys. If I’m not using something, then I’m glad someone else is!

Thanks!
It feels great.

I'm actually in pursuit of an armatura Bottega but I am trying to figure out how to get the funds together. Since I'm in the process of packing & moving, I've been taking a closer look at my collection. I've recently sold a couple of bags on Ebay: a LV GM Tivoli and a black Chanel ultimate soft. Silly me, though, the money went towards another Chanel bag and now I'm back at square one! I've sold another BV to Yoogi's but instead of going towards cash, I put it towards Yoogi's credit. I've still got a couple of bags to sell, but who's to say that I'll find yet another bag before I put the money away for my armatura! It's a never ending circle. Such the tragic story of a bag addict!

Good for you!

The BV armatura is a beautiful color; one of my favorite metallics.

So…I’ve been keeping a little book with notes in it that I write in daily – just general bullet point stuff about things that happened, what I ate, exercise, etc. On Monday, started writing what bag I carry each day. I actually carried a different bag every day this week.

I’m once again toying with the idea of doing a massive purge… trying to get down to maybe 3 RMs (there are 3 that I can’t imagine ever selling), my velo, and my veneta, a few less SLGs and smaller bags. This would put me at 3 satchels (2 different sizes), a crossbody, and a hobo, comprised of 2 black bags, 1 dark blue, 1 green and 1 greyish. And then I’d like to add a Mulberry in oak.

But we’ll see. The journal will keep me accountable, and if I find that I am using all 11 or however many I have, I’ll keep them. I don’t want to force anything. But if not, I’ll probably purge right before I move in 1-2 months.

So at the beginning of the week I had decided on about 7 bags to purge. When I started taking pics and listing them I could only put up two, lol. So I guess I still have a ways to go before I can downsize any more. :p

I think the journal is a great idea! That can help you figure out which bags you love the most. In working on paring down your RM list, maybe you should just start with a couple that you feel comfortable letting go. Don't try to do too much at once. Once you've sold those, you can decide what to do next. On the RM side, I'm actually down to just a BBW MAMM as an evening/going out bag. I still like some of the older RMs but the new stuff isn't doing much for me, either. I will confess to jonseing for a MAC but the chain is a deal-breaker for me. If it had an all leather strap, I'd probably be in big trouble!

Good luck!

Yeah, the picture-taking part can REALLY get you in trouble! I know that I had trouble with that because you see how beautiful your bags are and it's a little tough but I just remember that it didn't work out. I found that once I started seeing money in my Paypal account, that was a huge motivator to keep going because unused bags are literally money just sitting in your closet.

Here's my update. Well, I continue to scale down and now I'm at the point where it would be tough to sell anything else as I just have a few loved bags left! I'm considering a few styles that I'm missing now but still trying to decide. I've been tempted a few times--I think I need to stay off the online auction sites and quit looking for awhile!

Hope everyone ise well!:smile1:

I'm doing a little experiment where I'm forcing myself to use bags I've never (or only rarely) used. Last night, I took my Mini HL out to dinner - I bought it in Dec. 2007 and it's never been used.

You know what's funny? I actually really loved wearing it! It carried everything I needed to carry and didn't look nearly as silly as I thought it might - though I do still think mini bags need to be carried with a hint of irony. ;)

So, not a purge but discovering something actually works for me - it's all about being happy with what you have, right?

Oh I love that! It is like going shopping in your closet :)

I am out of purge mode and only have 3 bags which I use all 3 regularly and love them! I am also in acquire mode but still having trouble committing to purchases. I don't jump when I want/need something. I wait and research and wait some more until I feel like the want might go away...

At this time I want/need a Chanel WOC and a black bag for work (thinking either the LV epi Madeleine GM or the new Epi Brea MM or GM)...still thinking of course and not really moving on them. HA!

Very smart!! I am sitting in that same zone myself - I just sold my black YSL (seems crazy, yes, but I wasn't dying to use it like I was with my other bags) and my final black bag is on the chopping block and I think that it will sell fairly easily. At this point I know that I need a black bag and a cross-body bag (or maybe I will just get a black cross-body and call it a day:p), but I am still thinking about it. If I do that, then perhaps a final bag would be something BRIGHT red. :yahoo:

I have come to the conclusion that I am much happier with 3-5 bags total. I used to think that was not going to work for me, but it appears to be my "magic number."

Oh yeah - and I just want to congratulate myself (hee hee) for NOT buying any of the Balenciagas in Noix (Nut Brown) that I am been seeing around lately...I adore the color, and it looks fantastic on others - I just know that the "no brown bag" rule has to be observed in my case.

I came close, but will power & common sense prevailed!!! :yahoo:

Fantastic idea!!! I am going to try this, too. :smile1: (More for diet and exercise than bags, though). I appreciate the reminder of how well this strategy works.

I actually do the journal thing for all of my spending - every day I write down what I spend, how much is in the bank, etc., and this does a GREAT DEAL towards keeping me in check (along with not using any credit cards except for one that we share for household expenses.) I know that I can get a little "spendy" so this simple strategy is critical for me.

If I fall of the wagon and quit writing my expenses down, I inevitably get into a bit of trouble balancing my personal budget. Yes, it's low-tech, but the journalling works like a charm.

I know, it can be very hard!! But think of it this way: you are still putting up 2 bags for sale, so you ARE moving forward. I applaud you!!! :yahoo:

Lo-black hobos never work for me! I can see why you got rid of your YSL...but it was a beauty! I have such a hard time finding the perfect black bag. Why is it so hard???? LOL!
