Does anyone find it hard to use a non-designer bag after having designer bags...?

In the spirit of thread irony... I seem to get more compliments on my off-label bags than my designer ones.

I suppose it's because my choice in designer bags tends to be more conservative, perceived to be boring, while my off-label bags are seen as more funky and trendy.

Go figure.
:p

So, yes. I carry both. Depending on the sitch.

I think I used to be like that. I like to have bags I can take on trips and not have to worry about getting messed up or stolen and I love the look of a really broken in, no name leather bag with character.

Also, I still love buying nice designer bags, don't get me wrong. I just don't need to be seen with them at all times, if that makes sense. And I feel like I'm more picky and less into "it" bags and more into classics.

Last thought - I think it looks so much worse when someone is obviously trying to hard and carrying a flashy designer bag than someone with a no name bag. (But it makes for some good people watching!)

I swing back and forth on this, and am sure I have posted different responses to this question! Most of my bags are premier/designer and sometimes I feel slightly uncomfortable carrying anything else. Stupid, I know! But right now I'm loving my faux-leather black AW 'Rocco' from a French department store. A nostalgic purchase as I spend a lot of time in France. It's great quality and only cost 50 euros. A great bag for when it's bad weather here (Ireland). And it's a whole lot lighter than the original. Sometimes life is too short to be a bag snob!

For me I carry what I want based on weather or where I am going. I have a few premiere designer bags that I love but my true love is Coach. I fell in love with Coach 65th Anniversary Legacy Collection in 2006 and Coach Bleecker in 2007. When Coach stopped making these kinds of bags I moved to Balenciaga and Mulberry. For me I don't think the quality/craftsmanship of Premiere Disigners is all its cracked up to be. Some of my older Coach bags craftsmanship rivals that of Premiere Designers. Now that Coach is making bags I love I am back to Coach- the new Poppy whipstitch Vachetta bags are as nice as my Legacy bags.

I just purchased the Poppy whipstitch hobo vachetta and it hearkens back to what Coach really ia all about. While I own a few premiere designer bags I carry all of my bags regardless of who the designer is.

I always get more compliments on my least expensive no-name bags too! And to be honest a lot of those end up being my favorites, too.

I've gotten tons of complements on a $25 bag I bought at Target 3 years ago :shrugs:

I have no problem going between my no-name bags and my designer bags. the kicker for me is quality. I bought another $25 bag from a different retailer, and it turned out to be total crap. But that isn't always the case with cheap bags. I also think it's about knowing where to look and who to buy from. When I was in Nicaragua last summer, I bought a deep red patchwork cloth crossbody bag for $10 from a market vendor who was catering specifically to tourists in a very nice but touristy part of the country. The bag is such a lovely mish mash of reds, oranges, and some black, and goes with my ethnic, down to earth style. the shoulder strap is also comfortably quilted with padding. for $10, it was a steal!

I do use no name bags nowadays too,(in bad weather and for travelling situations) and a couple of my coach bags, but to be honest, I stopped buying no name bags because the quality hasn't been worth my time and if I spent all that money on my premier designer bags and then convincing DH that I can wear them for all occassions, I better damn well make sure I prove my point, otherwise my lawyer husband will want to negotiate down my next purchase. iykwim

I guess that depends on what is considered non-designer. Are Fossil, Lucky, Tokidoki and Lesportsac non-designer since they are affordable or are they designer because they are a recognized brand ... sold at nice department stores like Macy's? I still carry all of those.

Would I buy a random bag at Target or Kohls? No. Those are the kind of bags I bought as a broke high school and college student and that's when I learned that in many, if not most, cases, you get what you pay for. Those bags would fall apart in 3-12 months.
