Does anyone find it hard to use a non-designer bag after having designer bags...?

Kind of, but in general, even buying designer, I am kind of hard to please. I don't get impressed by a bag just because it's by a certain designer (even my favorite designer) or because it's the IT bag. I must fall in love with the design, leather, etc. There have been countless times where I fell in love with a bag online or in a magazine and was determined to buy it but when I went to the boutique and saw it in person and tried it on, I just found it...underwhelming and was really just not feeling it. And most of these are generally coveted IT bags, so that taught me to only really buy what I like, whether designer or not. The reason I have been to Prada, Gucci, Tod's, LV and Miu Miu repeatedly in the past few months, yet left empty handed and ended up buying a Tory Burch tote instead is not price but rather that I truly did not find anything I loved enough to buy and wear. Yes, there were bags I liked but none that I fell head over heals for or that gave me the butterflies I feel when I fall for a bag and just know I'm not leaving without it. When I saw the Tory Burch tote though, I just had to have it.

That said, I must admit that I do naturally gravitate towards premier designer bags (I just fall in love :)) and even when I try to choose a non-designer bag to wear for simple errands, etc. I find that I kind of have to look hard till I find something I adore. It's not about the brand or the name or people seeing what I wear (although I do care about people finding me stylish and put together), it's about falling in love and even though my heart flutters for designer bags, there are many beautiful non-designer gems out there, :)

Since most of my bags are contemporary which many here consider non-designer, than I'd have to say no I don't find it hard ;)

Contemporary designer brand is still designer like Alexander Wang bags, so I don't get why people wouldn't consider them as designer. The only kind of bags I consider non-designer are ones from Walmart, H&M, GAP, Target or Dollar Store ones. Which I don't carry anymore and haven't since secondary school. By University, I was carrying designer (first designer bag being a fendi that I still have).

Here in my region of the Northeast tomorrow's weather forecast is for winter storm, snow, wind, and freezing temps. What bag will I wear? My trusty metallic hazel Rosetti. Many have been our adventures (and misadventures) this long winter and she still looks the same as the day I bought her.Is she a designer bag, premier or otherwise? No. But she's on the road with me when my premier designer bags slumber blissfully in their dust bags safe and secure while my Rosetti and I mush through this long Western New York winter. She's with me when I lose all control and eat KFC on our way home and dribble raspberry jelly when I'm having a jelly doughnut on our way to work. She comes with me when I take my 3 dogs to the vet for their annual check ups and we all stop for ice cream on our way home. Neither snow nor rain nor dog hair and slobber deter her from our appointed rounds! :smile1:

Even though I wear LV & MJ most, I have a couple sentimental old school bags that I love and could never get rid of like my red corduroy Kate Spade or my super funky Vera Bradley with the owl print that definitely make it into my purse rotation. Especially this winter when the weather's been so bad, it's nice to have purse options that both look good and are washable!

In one word: YES! The only other bag I use is this gorgeous navy thick pebble leathered satchel bag that I bought from Paris. But I really can't stand to use my leatherette bags anymore! -It's sad really, they are quite pretty. But it's not the same :D

I can't use plastic feeling or fake leather bags. The smell of them bothers me after using amazing leather bags.

I also can't use boring/plain bags (so the cheaper, simple totes are out) and I can't use inspired bags that are too reminiscent of a designer bag (because I'll want the designer version instead).

Using my designer bags have me wanting bags with an iconic design, history, and good construction materials. Non designer bags just don't have that.

Yes!! I'm so used to the nice interior of my designer bags that when I see a super cute cheap non designer bag I can't bring myself to buy it bc the interior is cheap! I have no idea why I'm like that I have no prob carrying non designer as long as it's well made and the inside is nice, which they usually never are :(

I think of my contemporary bags as "designer" bags (despite what I've read a lot on here) and agree that ones you mentioned really aren't. Before I got into bags of any names I would buy cheaper ones from dept. stores like Kohls or Macys. Besides a few coach bags, I haven't bought any others from them in a long time. I'll use non-designer totes yes, but other than that I love my contemporary bags too much to go back to the lesser quality bags (like store brand or whatever). ;)

Yes I'm trying to decide if I should buy the Phillip lim Pashli which is a designer but it's not LV or Chanel. I find to hard to spend $900 on bag that will go on sale and might not retain its value. Plus he recently started making bags. So I'm not sure. What do you think? So confused!

Did you see this thread on Pashli?

Also Coach has a look-alike but I am not a fan of how it's made. I have yet to see a pashli IRL.

I can't go back. After a certain age, I no longer wanted to carry Guess, Liz Claiborne, Juicy Couture, etc. I wanted quality and a grown-up bag, and those were no longer appealing to me. Even if I have to buy secondhand to afford what I want, I'll do that instead of going to non-designer.
