Does anyone find it hard to use a non-designer bag after having designer bags...?

I actually own one H&M bag that is a total designer rip-off, but I did not know that until I saw a picture somewhere! They carry a Satchel that looks like the Givenchy Antigona bag (and also like the Perry by Rebecca Minkoff).

I am sure many people carry a rip off and don't know

I think almost all of the bags sold at H&M, zara etc are rip off, some are just more subtle than the rest :p and yes, a lot of people probably don't realise, and I guess they wouln't care if they knew either.

Yes, there are a ton of designs that seem to be inspired by designer bags. I personally don't mind, I just don't really "look" for rip-offs...I buy the bag I like and where the fale leather and hardware doesn't look too horrible. A Zara bag I own really had beautiful metal hardware and lots of leather lined pockets and compartments...something that a few of my pricier bags lack :( (plastic zippers and usually only one zipper and two slip pouches)

Yes, because my more expensive bags make me feel better/bring me into a better mood. But I will buy cheaper bags (zara, H&M) if I really like it, it has good quality and it is not a totally designer ripoff. Right now H&M has a light beige tote bag in real suede with a lot of fringes and I really like it :smile1:

I feel the same way - sometimes I am embarrassed by the idea that I feel "better" when I'm carrying a nicer bag, but I rationalize by telling myself that it's a product of treating myself well and acknowledging my success in my career. :shucks:

Beyond the psychological issues, I mostly by "designer" bags now because I have gotten used to a certain level of quality and my experience is that super-cute Zara/Target/etc. bags aren't worth the money because they often have little defects that annoy me and also fall apart/look beat WAY faster. When I do by cheap and cheerful bags now, I do so with the expectation that they will have short lives, which is of course fine as long as it's what you're looking for.

No, I don't find it hard to go to a non designer bag, for specific purposes. For example, I recently popped into DSW and found a cute, small black leather crossbody bag to use for a general admission concert I was attending. So glad I did. It was light weight and perfect and I did not worry about it getting wrecked. It's packed away for another show...

I started my collection about 7-8 yrs ago. I found that cheaper bags i owned fell apart quickly. I quite like distinctive designs, my first few higher end purchases were from miu miu and despite all the wear they r still going strong.

DSW has some really great bags. I have one from there with the most luscious leather. Got it on sale for just under $100 and I think it's the bag I get complimented on the most.

I've never carried non-designer bags. Hope that doesn't sound snobbish. :shame: Up until the past couple of months, I only owned one bag at a time, so I always tried to find the best quality I could afford. Started with Aigner in the early 80s and slowwwwwly worked my way up to Coach, then finally LV and Chanel.

Not at all. I have quite a few artisanal/art fair type bags which I love and are not even sold in stores, no expensive compared to designer. I love all purses across price ranges:smile1:

I started collecting designer bags seriously 8 yrs ago..and no, Ive never bought a non-designer bag ever since. I'd rather save up for another designer bag, than buy one nondesigner bag that I probably wont use.

I completely agree, I only own contemporary bags but I still love the quality and luxury of them. I used to love bags from regular high street shops but now I cannot bear to touch them lol.
Sigh, that means I have to spend more money if I want a new bag lol.

The trend these days seems to be more and more towards highly processed leather, especially cowhide mock exotics. Some of the premium placed on these fake exotics is ridiculous since the process makes them feel more plasticky and less like leather let alone a real exotic leather. Genuine exotics and lambskin are fragile leathers and no amount of craftsmanship will give them the same durability of cowhide.

For those of you who like exotics - I know some of you find them creepy or just dislike the look - but if you do like to wear genuine exotics will it be difficult to wear cowhide faux ones? I sometimes wonder about getting in touch with craftsmen to have a genuine one made without the designer price point.
