Does anyone find it hard to use a non-designer bag after having designer bags...?

I have to agree with BittyMonkey with some points regards to quality and branded.

Most of the time you are buying for the design only. Take the C luggage for example, the design is exclusive. You cant find the design elsewhere. But if you were to discuss the quality? The bag wont last for years, it turns slouchy over time and eventually 'collapse'.

However, of course there are really quality luxury brands out there like LV (mid range), Chanel (mid-high range) and Hermes (high range), which no one can deny of their respective status in the bags world.

I find it hard to get designers' bags like C, when they charge pretty high price but their products dont last. And worse of all, they do not have proper after-sales service to handle repairs and refurbishment.

I only own one premier designer bag, the rest are contemporary. I definitely can't go back to faux leather or lower quality bags though. I've had too many fall apart over the years and now prefer having a smaller collection of quality bags that will last.

I think it's interesting that a lot of people think that designer = quality. I guess if you compare them to bags made to be disposable, yes. But there are plenty of non-BRAND leather masters that make things that last.

In general, I think 'brand' has become shorthand for quality, but really the bags are made to be relatively cheap to produce, with shortcuts made to make it appear to be excellent quality. But then a few years down the road they fall apart.

I think that brands don't get called on it because people baby their bags or resell before we really see how they wear.

Of course there is cheaper non branded bags that are good quality out there, I dont think anyone has said ONLY designer bags are good quality. But for the most part the bags I buy are good quality. I buy them because of their quality, because I like the style etc
Alot of the bags I used to buy didnt last long. The bags I have now I have had for years. The oldest would be 10 years and it looks new.
I have also seen cheaper bag brands that have thick leather, good quality stitching etc and look like they will last forever, but I wasnt into the style so passed up on it.
An example of a bag I have that isnt good quality is a Miu Miu bow bag, it is shocking and the only bag I have that hasnt held up, as a result I wont buy Miu Miu ever again. But the bags brands I have and love that are awesome quality I will continue to buy.
Had I never been able to afford what I have now I would have discovered a cheaper good quality brand to stick to.
So no one is saying that there are definitely no other or cheaper brands that would be of decent quality, they are just saying the quality of what they DO buy is what keeps them buying those brands.
I resell some bags that I just dont use any more, and usually within a few years so who knows how they wear down the track but I also have the first couple of bags I ever bought that look new still so to me thats worth the money. And because I am used to the quality of these bags and these brands that is why I find it hard to buy other bags that arent designer just in the hope they will live up to it.

I tried a few bags by designers that are raved about and alot cheaper than most bags I have and ended up finding faults or flaws Im not happy with. Corner cutting in the finish etc which is not to say they wont last and the leather is good quality, but that the bag just has a cheap look about it due to thing like stitching etc.

I didn't get my first designer bag until I was 26!!

When I received that first Coach 'Madison Sabrina' it was intoxicating to say the least - aside from it being the only time I paid full retail - and that feeling started a whole new dimension to my handbag obsession. Since then I have purchased: more Coach, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Cavalli by Roberto Cavalli, and Michael Kors....

With the collection I've accumulated over the past 4 years there's no way I can carry a non-designer bag ever again.
:D

Yes very much so, even now whenever I take my chloe
Marcie out I am telling people to feel The leather it's so soft! Smell the leather it's lovely! Non designers just feel Hard and cheap To me now. I would
Rather have 3 top quality bags than 20 cheap poor quality any day. It's the quality that counts

Well I have one non-designer bag that I wear to work and I trash it around so much. I would never trash my designer bags like how I trash my non-designer bag hahaha. So it's the only non-designer bag I regularly use, anyways. And on my days off, I use my designer bags, so really, I wear my non-designer bag more and it doesn't bother me much. I work in a hospital so I'd rather wear a non-designer bag!

I'm the same way! I'd hate to use my designer bags in situations where I know I won't be able to baby it - I would feel awful if anything happened to it! So for work and air travel, I like to use my non-designer bags, much more worry-free!

I say yes only because I am now more particular on what I spend my money in in terms of quality. If a non-designer brand had great quality then no, I don't have a problem, but unfortunately most non-designer brands don't have the same quality and I'm not willing to spend my money on items that just won't last. I can say the same thing for a designer bag that isn't up to standard on quality - I won't buy it.

I was spoiled with designer bags growing up so when I hit my 30's, I "rebelled" and bought dozens of non-designer bags. Such a waste though because I used them once or twice each and don't want to use them again. I'm trying pre-loved bags now. Bought 3 already. ;)

I don't buy very pricey designer bags, but after telling myself that I will only invest in leather, brand name bags from now on ( mostly Fossil ) I actually got bored and first bought a lower priced brand that sells real leather bags (5th Avenue by Halle Berry) and then I found myself buying H&M bags and I actually am getting good use out of them.
I like to match every handbag with an outfit and I like lots of variety. But I vould never afford to buy this many actual name brand bags!

I also sew and I have worked with leather and I have to say many affordable bags aren't all too shabby. Clean stitching, beautiful lining and quality looking faux leather does exist.

I still prefer the feel of a Fossil bag with the beautiful leather and details, there is a uniqueness about it. But once in a while my yellow H&M flap and other cheap bags make me really happy :)

I carry LV now and I find it really hard to carry Coach again. There is such a quality gap and value plunge. In a few months you'll find your bag on sale at the outlet or local department store. It's really annoying. I love how lv holds its value. It doesnt dissapoint and remains classic.

That's probably true for signature Coach but not for vintage leather Coach bags. Those are VERY high quality, thick leather that lasts forever and also look timeless.

Totally agree. I bought a vintage Coach court bag and was shocked with the quality. The leather is amazing even it is a 21 years old bag. I think it is better quality than my Mulberry alexa. However the current Coach bag is not that good anymore. So sad!

Yes, because my more expensive bags make me feel better/bring me into a better mood. But I will buy cheaper bags (zara, H&M) if I really like it, it has good quality and it is not a totally designer ripoff. Right now H&M has a light beige tote bag in real suede with a lot of fringes and I really like it :smile1:

I actually own one H&M bag that is a total designer rip-off, but I did not know that until I saw a picture somewhere! They carry a Satchel that looks like the Givenchy Antigona bag (and also like the Perry by Rebecca Minkoff).

I am sure many people carry a rip off and don't know
