HI
@SDC2003 , thank you for explaining your usage of the word. I did understand that you employed the modern, slang definition. I was more taking issue with this modern definition. Why would it become an "insult" just because something is "unoriginal, unexceptional, and mainstream" (Rhetorical question). My point was that there are good reasons why something becomes ubiquitous, because of certain features such as usefulness, beauty, practicality. For an example, a crisp white collared shirt is "unoriginal, unexceptional, and mainstream" and thus basic. In this case, basic is wonderful. It can be worn with anything, goes with most jewelry, is neat, clean and flattering. I do not subscribe to the modern definition.
However, I understand you mean that you're saying it is mainstream. I can understand your point because it is all about perception. If you see it everywhere where you live, then it is mainstream to you. And I respect your desire to have pieces that are less seen in your daily life. I wish you luck with finding brands and pieces that you love and are less common. Buccellati has not saturated the market the way VCA has and their pieces are lovely. Boucheron? Graff? RDG? Vintage or antique pieces from any of these houses would probably be hard to find in daily life.
Edited to add, I hope you keep wearing your pieces. 10 motifs and clover bangles I would venture to guess are less commonly seen VCA pieces and they are so beautiful. It would be a pity for them not to see the light of day.
