Does anyone feel like VCA is everywhere now?

I don't know where this weird urban legend was started, but the H is most definitely NOT supposed to be on the inside. Here is a picture directly from the H site, and every mannequin that was wearing it on RTW in 2021 at FSH also had it on the outside. https://www.hermes.com/us/en/product/evelyne-iii-29-bag-H056277CK89/
It’s in the “the story behind” section of the product page:

…with an “H” perforation, which the initiates wear against the body…

Wearing against the body refers to them wearing the horse bags cross-body to allow the grooming bristles to dry. Not wearing the H on the inside as if that is some kind of secret way to wear it. I have an equine background, but even without it, logically wearing perforation against your body would render the perforation irrelevant bc it would restrict the airflow to the boar bristles. The H is meant to be on the outside of the Evelyn, bc that is how it was designed.

Now back to VCA....

VCA is now a status brand vs a luxury brand that has beautiful jewelry. People are buying it because it is popular and $$$.
I loved when it was more under the radar and when I was asked if I were wearing Kate Spade. I liked that it seemed a bit more special to me. It was attainable pretty feminine jewelry that I liked since I was a teen.
I was speaking to someone in corporate VCA about the holiday pendant fiasco. They confirmed they have changed their business strategy recently. I feel that is creating a huge divide now.

I also have noticed a huge change in people's attitudes buying VCA. It has brought out elitism in some people .
It is like a pissing contest to see who scores what and who is approved for what. If you can afford to be offered a holiday pendant or a special order, or if you are deemed worthy w/o the spend to be offered. Bragging rights. I have seen people very depressed on not being able to buy stuff, be offered an SO, Holiday pendant and they feel excluded . It's insane to me and a turn off.
Thank god, I don't see it here on tPF, but other social media outlets and among people I know. I feel so lucky to have what I have and will enjoy it. I will keep buying what I love, but I am not going to buy to be offered something down the line.

That’s exactly why I stopped buying H bags with any frequency. It’s their job to sell and market to me. I DO NOT need to market myself to you.

In fact, when I feel everyone has something I have, I don’t want it as much. Case in point with H-quota bags and now a bit with VCA.

Also, please please don’t try to EVER convince me (insert name of relevant company) that being offered an overpriced-material good is a privilege they are bestowing on us.

What do you think brought about this change in status? Is it Insta? When did it start?

I stopped trying. I could not stomach trying to talk myself into things I don’t love. And I wasn’t even trying to get a quota bag. Constant rejection is no fun.

for me, I feel like like the popularity of VCA rose alongside the popularity of Hermès Birkins and Kellys. I've been seeing VCA since around 2011 when ladies who would post H action pics, were also wearing Alhambra bracelets (anyone remember Vernilover?). Initially I thought it was LV since they also have that four-petal flower pattern very similar to Alhambra. And then instagram became popular and then the same action pics (H and VCA) started popping up.

I guess there's a correlation between being an Hermès lover and a VCA lover :D

This! though my H collection is nowhere near my VCA collection. Thank goodness for that, lol.

That makes perfect sense.

ITA. It’s leather and a bag, and gosh how many do I need? When I downsized and got rid of many of my bags, I felt better. I use what I have and love them. I mean it’s not like we really need more than a handful of bags after a certain age. I’m not in my 20’s or 30’s. I like a comfortable and useful bag, that lightweight lol, and that’s it. It could be $20 or it could be H prices, the brand and $ don’t matter.

I feel the same now about Van Cleef. I have most pieces I want. I need to enjoy them, not collect unnecessary pieces. I think there’s one piece I still may want to add if it appears on the resale market at a good price. Otherwise, I’m done for a while.

Life is not about things, because there will always be more things. That’s why I won’t play the games. It’s their privilege to have anyone wear their handbags and jewelry.

Ultimately, they need our money to function, whereas we certainly don’t need their material goods, lol.

It is ubiquitous where I live (suburb of NYC). It’s some variation of a Cartier love stacked with a juste un clou and/or a VCA bracelet. Went to a school meeting and almost every mom had on vca. Went out to dinner with town friends and noted that every woman was wearing a vca necklace (except me!). It has become a common jewelry uniform of sorts no matter one’s style. I love seeing woman sporting VCA pieces that are less conventional. A friend has a blue agate ten motif, Frivole rings and earrings, just slightly different combos than MOP or onyx. Looks fresh!

I have the same feeling. It's like Chanel bags, they are everywhere. Though, I still love MOP and onyx.
