Does anyone else here DISlike LV?

I've never been a big fan of LV, I even gave my Cabas Piano to my sister and my Musette Tango to a classmate :sad2: I thought there were a lot of fakes. But after joining this forum and being educated about LV, I'm more open to buying one.
I only love my mono speedy for now...

I've always loved Louis Vuitton, maybe because it's something that my mom perceived as a status symbol (that and Mercedes !! she loves her Benz), although don't really look at it in that way so much as a fashionable investment. I can understand that there are people that don't like it as much, for me though everything always gets compared against LV.

i actually decided to distance myself from LV. i used to only have one LV bag, the cerises pochette, but i eventually sold that. this is JMO, but the amount of LV fakes out there is getting so ridiculous, i wonder what steps LV is taking to reducing counterfeit practices. i mean, i know there is only so much they can do, but are they really doing enough to protect their brand? on ebay, if you so much as describe you bag as "hermes-like" your auction can get shut down quickly. but you see the horrendous LV fakes getting put up for auction left and right. i just don't fully understand...:worried:
I AGREE WITH YOU TOTALLY!:oh:

everyone has their likes and dislikes. i myself didn't like handbags at all at one point. i hated carrying a piece of luggage on me. it was so annoying and i always felt weighed down. i didn't even like to hold a wallet. i always had a friend hold mine in their purse. but after a while i started to see handbags as a form of art. there are some pieces out there that are really beautifully crafted, especially LV bags. how the canvas goes with the beautifully darkened patina. like on a mini bucket or cabas. they really are works of art. not every LV bag looks good on everyone. you have to pick one that suits your style and personality.

I "dislike" the monograms and graffiti because they're ubiquitous where I am and there are loads of fakes.
I do however love the style and class of the leather bags.

However, since the Cerises and Panda, I've grown to like the monogram again.

I don't like LV bags. I think too many people by them just because of the whole logo and status symbol think. I personally don't like the Louis Vuitton look at all. The bags are all about the logo. Allthough they had some nice bags without the logo a while back. Was it last year?

Is this your bag? This was issued for spring/summer 2004.

I have mixed feelings. I think the plain brown monogram ones are probaly incredibly practical and hard wearing for everyday use-I would consider carrying one for work, but dislike all the cherry blossoms, graffitis etc_. I find it incredible that people will only buy LV and not vary their purse collections - looking at some on the handbag showcase people purely have collections of LV and NOTHING ELSE! There can be bo doubht that LV is the most faked brand, certainly here in the UK, which I think really dilutes its impact. No offense to LV lovers - each to their own! ( i'm not big on Balenciaga either!)

I know exactly what you mean. I look at the Hermes bags and I know they are excellent and very very expensive, but they just dont do it for me at all. You may just feel that way about LV. Do you like coach? they have alot of beautiful bags and accessories. I do like them also and I love fendi, I have alot of fendi, and I love LV, but I dont care at all for dooney and burke and I know people who only would carry that. I guess the bottom line is..it has to "do it for you". [BOLD]what would be your most favorite of all the popular lines?[/BOLD]

I'm a bit mainstream in that regard:shame: ....but my favourite *popular* bags are Chloe and Fendi...but by no means every bag they produce.

Mostly though,I like quirky, individual but good quality bags, irrespective of the origin..I have a few by Costume Nationale and by a Belgian designer called Ellen Verbeek that I like a lot.I also have two Mulberry bags, but I don't like everything they make.

I suppose this is one reason why I am not enamoured of LV. The omnipresent monograms and fake monograms make it such a mass-produced item even though it may not be. i don't even notice the different styles...I just see "Oh monogram again".

Cool reading everyone's input.

QuirkyCool, I used to feel the same way that you do and I actually asked a similar question to a different forum not too long ago. I wanted someone to tell me what was so appealing about the brand. For the most part, people defended the brand, but nobody could really tell me anything that I felt was specific regarding quality. The focus seemed to be on history, which sounded cool, but just didn't seem (IMO) a good enough reason for spending that much money on a bag, wallet, agenda, etc. I needed to know more than that. It was a little frustrating to me, so I started investigating for myself.

That was when I got into trouble. :shame:  I started going to the brand's website. I watched them making the trunk and the shoes...As an artist, the handcrafting really appeals to me. I ordered a catalog and started looking at trunks on ebay for fun. I learned about the whole patina thing. I started paying attention to the patina on authentic monogram bags. I started loving the way it looked. I also love how nuetral the monogram canvas is; I started imagining it with my mostly solid (no print)wardrobe. I started appreciating the history and when I looked at other bags, I realized that I was comparing them to LV shapes/styles.

Then, I started noticing the Monogram Vernis line...When I look at it, I feel uplifted, because to me, it looks candy-coated. IMO, it looks so cheerful and Springy...

The Multi-Color is not really me...but certain pieces do really appeal to me. I love the way the black MC pieces look when the patina starts to set in. It's a beautiful contrast. To me, the MC line represents something that is whimsical, but not totally over the top. (Now the fringe line? Yuck! That's over the top. Like any other brand, there's the occasional miss. )

The Epi Leather is so sophisticated and so well put together. A bag from that line was the first LV that I ever really considered buying before I became obsessed.

What I love more than anything is that LV is definitely timeless, long lasting and it gets better with age. Not many handbags look better with age. :suspiciou :shame: Now I sound like the people who used to frustrate me!
