Do you ever wish for a particular bag because a celebrity has it? Be honest now!

I think it's a matter of liking something -- and then seeing it 'in action' creates more of a lust for it...I know for me it's not even celebs as much as the girls here on the PF lol!!! I see it and want it all the time!!!! Slowly am getting exactly what works best for me though....

Same for me, Shoes319!

I think you should get the BJ birkin, :)))...

i know you love a birkin, and birkin is such pretty bag.... and the fact that Lindsay or Vic are the first one that show you the "geourgeousness" of BJ colour, i say, why not....... Get it, :P

i think what jedimaster said is brilliant and "spot on" (i'm being british, lol) and captures the reason celebrities hold our attention and captivate our imagination (and they surely do play an active role in fueling/profitting from the whole image machine, but that's another story):
"I think some of it, at least for me, is the attraction of a life[style]."

as to the opinions of those who have the opposite reaction when their favorite bags are carried by celebrities they do not admire, i don't see why tPf cannot be welcome to these observations as well. it might be rude to ring VB's doorbell, or any celeb, and say some of these things, but it seems pertinent to this discussion of hermes bags. no one insulted any members. no one insulted fans of VB, just VB, because it was their personal opinion. asked if seeing celebs carrying bags makes an impression, adds to the lust, they are responding and participating in the thread. i am not threatened by anyone else's opinion and i find the range of responses interesting (as opposed to reducing a thread/conversation to dry "yes/no" answers, or only reading those that i agree with).

I've come pretty close when I saw Catherine Zeta-Jones with her black Birkin. She carries it very well and she's incredibly attractive b/c she's a naturally sexy woman.

I've seen VBeckham in a few taped interviews and was really struck by how well spoken and grounded she seemed (incredibly sharp), nothing like the pictures we all see. VB carries her H bags extraordinarily well, but most of the time I feel she's "over the top" for the paparazzi. But that's her job to promote an image.

(Incidentally I happen to have a singular curiousity over Angelina Jolie. Her stark yet subdued style is one I admire and she reminds me of myself in my early 20s. I've seen her LV bags but I haven't made the leap to a "I must have" mentality.)

I am not threatened by anyones opinion either, but rudeness does diminish my opinion of the person who voices it.

it is my sense that someone who voices a negative opinion about VB is insulting her. someone who calls that person rude is insulting a tPf member. we don't all have to agree.

:back2topic: while i understand the impulse to be seduced by a projected lifestyle, i am more often swayed if i can relate to the individual's style. so like many others who have posted, the action thread can often inspire me as much as a celeb picture (honest). of the celebrities toting hermes, sofia coppola is one who enhances the appeal of certain hermes bags because i can see it enhancing a fashion approach i already click with.

Rose, I agree with you. And I am not sure precisely what/who you are referring to in the matter but I would keep in mind that this forum of ideas (the rough equivalent to an anonymous group email) can be occasionally problematic because of the method of communication. i.e. short incomplete sentences, punctuation in the form of various faces and the like. It is easy to take offense or provoke it unintentionally or intentionally for that matter. We are after all talking about the world of high end designer goods and all that it entails..............money, celebrities, fashion etc etc:smile1:

ooo rainrowan, i agree, zeta-jones carries hermes very well (especially the bolide)!! but she and demi moore are 2 i cannot relate to, style-wise, so while i do think they both look especially terrific with their bags, the pics of them do not directly inspire/motivate me.

hi heels--whose TOTAL style inspires you? It is an interesting question. I find Zeta Jones a beautifully put together woman but not style inspiring. I actually find VB's to be cartoonishly glam. Its a little too forced for me. I like Gwyneths style on the red carpet but not off...........I think their off carpet style is more interesting ............and often somewhat disappointing..

i don't know that i would say celebs' styles inspire me, exactly. for style/creativity, i am more typically inspired by abstract things or ideas, but i am very satisfied when i see pics of a celeb whose style i can relate to, kwim? so if i see sofia coppola carrying a white birkin and i think she looks terrific, it gives the white birkin points, imo, even though i am not a birkin person, and her carrying it wouldn't make me want one - though it does put (temporary) thoughts of white bags in my mind. hey, i guess that's inspiring me then. so there you go. it's a big mishmash in the end i guess. but i do love "candid" celeb pics (can't ever really be sure what is and what is not candid, so i used quotes to express my skepticism) too, when they're casual. interesting to see what someone with the fashion world at their feet will pick to wear, kwim?

oh boy, have I missed CTZ's bolide somewhere on the Ode thread? I have only seen her with the birkin. must...search...now...:p

Another example: Jada Pinkett Smith looks fabulous with her croc birkin but I don't have any feelings of covetedness when I see her with it. But I would be more than fascinated if I saw a woman or celebrity from the UAE states carrying one. Maybe there is that strong element of foreign seduction and class standing that creates desire (stronger for me, being in US).

i see what you mean........sorry i missed the sofia coppola reference

This thread is making me think about a person/celebrity's overall style and how it attracts us - is it the bag that enhances the celebrity or does the celebrity bring the bag alive?... Or does it just work out sometimes.

I'm going to make some up!

if Cate Blanchette carried a Kelly, I'd be very inspired. I've seen her in a candid taping with her children, and she wore a wonderfully retro looking suit with a lot of fluidity, could have been an Armani, or Tracy Reese design. A Kelly would be a perfect complement.

If Isabellini Rossellini carried a MacPherson (name?), or a Massai, I've be very inspired. She is another inspiration of mine from the past.

If Peter Gallagher (NOT watermelon Gallagher) carried the Kelly with the zippers, I'd be very turned on! LOL

I have to admit I barely know who is a celeb these days so they don't influence me. To me, the H in action thread does more damage to my wallet than the Celebs and their bags thread :D

Most of them are trying to buy themselves class points with H when they're sadly lacking.

I don't agree with Posh Spice but I think she carries her bags well enough.
