I have a question regarding clochettes - mine (om my 32 HAC) is real short, and Ive seen pics of 32 HACs with LONG clochettes (where they almost touch the bottom of the bag)
Are there no standard lengths to these?

Hi Everyone. I am a Hermes newbie and have a question. Is a 1955 black box (I think that is the leather) Kelly worth $2900? The handle has numerous cracks and is ripping off the bag on both sides. Otherwise the bag is in good condition for being so old. The lock and key do not appear to be authentic but the bag does. Measurements are 12.5" by 8.5". Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I don't think so.. Judging from what you have describe, the condition is quite bad, and with doubts on its authenticity with a 'might be' fake lock and key. Not worth it. Many good deals elsewhere, you will find it ;)

Thanks so much for your opinion. It is a bit stressful buying your first Hermes. I did take it to Hermes and they were willing to replace the handle for around $900. They didn't mention anything about the locks. The keys are silver in color and have the same number as the lock which is a bit worn looking (gold worn off), like the plate has come off. Hermes Paris is on the top of the lock but the lock is smooth (no H). I have read that some vintage locks have this. Does anyone have any info on old Hermes locks? If Hermes was willing to take the bag, does that tell me it is authentic? Any advice or input is appreciated! Thank you!

If H is willing to take in and do the servicing, then most likely it is authentic. But I really wouldn't give it a go with $2.9k spend on bag, still need to top up $900 for servicing. Not worth it imo. :smile1:

There are many great deals in ebay here and there. Just make sure you visit it daily to see newly listed items

it's very decently priced, especially given it's condition. obviously the seller has noted all the flaws and priced it accordingly.

if you do buy the bag, a handle replacement and a trip to the spa is recommended. You may want to replace the lock/key/clochette if you don't like what came with it (or do a search about Hermes lock in the reference thread) it's rare to still find a vintage bag this old still in decent condition for a good price. I'd also get a strap if it doesn't come with one. All in, think you might end up spending $4.5k or so which is still pretty decent.

Just a little food for thought. Only a couple of months ago I bought a 2002 BEAUTIFUL black box Kelly from a wonderful tpfer on ebay. I believe I paid $4500 usd. The bag is stunning and looks brand new. I think you can find much newer for the money you need to put into that bag. Sam at haute gallery has a few now I believe. Unless, you truly want one from that vintage, which you may. It is a very personal thing! Good luck with your decision:smile1:

Thank you all for your comments and opinions. I finally decided to not purchase this Kelly. It was beautiful and hard to let go but I thought I would wait for a bag in better condition. Thanks again!

Has anyone encountered no blindstamp on their birkin and kelly's ... I recently got both with no stamp from the Hermes store. The birkin has an asterisk * on it instead of the blindstamp and beside the asterisk there are some numbers ... While the kelly has no blindstamp at all just some numbers. Can someone enlighten me please

Hello my dear bagaholics!

I thought to share with you this information on Hermès craftsmanship and a wonderful lady called Claire Marie. She is the artisan in the Bond Street branch of Hermès.
I had a great privilege and pleasure of meeting her at Hermès.

A massive THANK YOU to Simon Crompton (http://www.simoncrompton.co.uk) for his fascinating blogs.
For me Hermès is definitely a ‘godfather’ of leather bag craftsmanship!
I hope this is a correct thread for posting this information.

Hello!

Just wondering if anyone else has has this problem....

I have a Gris 35 birkin. The left flap seems to be curling. Whenever I tuck the top flap inside, the left edge hits almost as if the inside was made too small.

I've never encountered this issue with any of my Birkins.

Hi everyone, I have just bought a new Birkin 35 and found out that the blind stamp contains letter S, specifically 160s. Does it mean my Birkin is sale item? The front of my bag below Hermes stamp has no S-code stamp, though.
