wow im so sorry to hear about the bad customer service... after i had a customer service seminar that me and my coworkers were forced to go to, i learned a LOT about how really important it is to give good customer service....

for one, service will always be heard through word of mouth.. so when you get a bad experience, just as you had Linpaddy, you posted it here and now we all think badly about the service at singapore high end boutiques. just like anywhere you go, you will tell a friend about how disgusted you were about service somewhere, then your friend won't go there, then they will tell others, etc etc.

so i also try to recognize good and bad service when im dining out or shopping at high end boutiques (well actually anywhere) because i def. wouldn't want to buy from anyone who gives me bad service.... so i stress good service when im helping clients.

Prada service in Singapore sucks! the SAs will xray what you're wearing and carrying before coming towards you for service. A friend of my actually commented to me that, prada staffs only service customers whom will purchase ALOT more items, rather than those who will buy 1 or 2. Their prime customers who they desperately serve are normally indonesians.

BV service is excellent, i'll went the paragon last mth with a frn whom she wanna buy a bag. Their service is friendly and are overall A's in grading. The SAs would help to give comments and always with a smiling face. My frn end up buying her bag on that day.

I hope someone would write a feedback letter to PRADA and jolly well tell their management about their lousy snobish customer service. Why would i wanna buy a lousy service, higher tax in singapore. I would rather buy prada at the airport or oversea... Prices at Prada have increased here..

I think the service industry in Singapore has much catching up to do in general. This goes for retail, F&B and even banking... Maybe this has something to do with the fact that there is no specific incentive in place for providing good service... and local culture also does not practise praise/appreciation etc. very openly... That's why we had that campaign some time ago aimed at showing appreciation when you receive good service??

Having said that, I have also come across many excellent SAs in both high and low end boutiques so not all are horrid.

I actually received excellent service from a boutique called Giordano. In the end, I didn't buy anything but the service staff were so helpful.

They were somewhat surprised when I asked for a manager's contact so that I could write a letter of appreciation. They didn't know who to refer me to!

I did write to their general manager before I left Singapore. Good service is hard to come by and I certainly appreciate it! BTW, Giordano sells mainly mid priced clothing on the casual side. Some of their boutiques do carry higher end designs, like a more upscale line of trendy/business wear items.

I have had ok service from prada singapore - you really have to look at one of the sa and ask for help... same thing happened in prada london (selfridges)...i had to approach a sa for help.

the terrible services i have experienced was at

1. LV singapore (no body bothered to help so i went up to one of the counters and took a bag down from the shelf) but a sa screeched at me that i wasnt supposed to touch the bags! i did tell her off since it wasnt my fault - no one could be bothered to serve me even though i was standing at the counter for some time and they werent busy. i longer buy LV stuff

2. tiffany (singapore) i asked to see a pair of earrings in gold which they didnt have and i asked her to order it in. the sa had the cheek to ask me "can you afford the SGD850 for the earrings?" VS

--- tiffany (harrods/london) - sa told me to call her and tell her what i wanted to look at, arrange a date & she would have them waiting for me.

--- tiffany (HK) - sa was willing to show me a few (same design) of the gold earrings (that the singapore sa thought i couldnt afford) & even brought out other items that she thought i might like (even thought i didnt ask for them)

3. gucci (melbourne) -WORSE serivce ever!
i just stepped into the store, i was using my phone to send messages and the huge burly security guard rushed up to me and yelled " you cant do that!" i was like what the heck? (it was damn frightening!!) and then he had the cheek to say "i thought you were taking photos to make FAKE bags!!" hello?? i was barely in the store!! should have left then but i wanted to see a bag. went to the counter, saw that bag & asked the sa to show me another bag. BUT she replied that she couldnt show me more than one bag because of security reasons since alot of gucci bags had been stolen!! i no longer buy gucci too.

4. mulberry (singapore) - the sa was really really FUNNY. she would stand at one corner of the shop and everytime i took a bag down to look at the inside of the bag (and check prices) she would yell out loud accross the shop the price of the bag!!! i took the opportunity to open most of the bags in the store but she was impressive...she got the prices ALL right!

BEST serivice: mulberry (london heathrow terminal 3) - they actually made a mess of a bag i requested to hold for my flight out of london (reserved the wrong bag). with 40 mins to take off, they arranged someone to pick up the bag from another terminal, ring up my purchase and carried my items running to the gate to let the ground staff know that another passenger was coming!!

shopping in singapore - you have to demand your rights and ignore how the sa seize you up with what you are wearing and carrying. it might help if you carry a really expensive bag or wear huge/expensive jewellery!! otherwise go to the DFS at scotts (my theory is the better sas are there cos they have to serve foreigners) or shop overseas (cheaper that way too)

I called up Miu Miu Singapore the other day to ask about how to care for my zaffiro gathered which was losing its glaze and shine (and i'm really worried!!), this guy picked up my call, and he sounds really frustrated when he dont know which bag i'm referring to, and i told him I just appreciate if he could tell me how to care for this season distressed calf leather, and you know what he answered!! 'mdm we're really busy right now, please call back later' and HE HANGED UP ON ME before i could even say anything else!!!

the SA in LA and HK are soooooooooooooo much better!

oh wow! I can't believe they are all so incredibly rude! Yes, you are right about an expensive bag or jewelry when walking into these stores. What's wrong with all these people?:cursing:

strangely the nicer sales staff are the ones who are not from the high end boutique stores.

from what i can gather with SAs at prada and miu miu in singapore is that they prefer sure buys because they have a commission system. who doesn't? right? i also gather that in attending to those who are only look-seeing they might loose buying customers. i think this is true for most SAs everywhere. i concluded that some SAs are just more elegant in their maneuvering, and some do not even bother with appearances. crude, shall we say. so i think more of an issue on how they go about it.

this is why i choose to pick one SA and stick to him or her. and it worked really well. i also experience the indifference of singapore miu miu SAs. i ignored this. i went in there for the first time and bought something. and the second time around, walked in without carrying or wearing anything expensive, i was wearing sandals and jeans and i did not look monied at all. but they recognized me from my last transaction, as i had to exchange the bag i bought with a smaller one. i had also called in to request to look at two particular bags (as i did the first time around, but was responded to with indifference, which i ignored). they put them aside for me. i came, picked, and paid. the same SA who acted as if i was bothering her the first time around (a few months ago) was then very friendly with me and greeted me by name, asking about my bag. i was so surprised that i answered some rubbish answer just to be polite. well. i thought. i know the logic of commerce, but you guys can try to be a little bit less obvious... i choose to not deal with her, or anyone else from the last transaction, and am now sticking to the current SA who picked up my phone in a friendly way even before she knew i was going to buy anything.

I'm from Singapore too and I do agree that the SAs here ain't the most friendly and professional (be it high-end boutique or not). But in every boutique there'll be some nice ones. And those are the ones that stay for years in that boutique. Look for more 'senior' staff and they normally offer good (may not be excellent) service.

Couldn't resist jumping in. I live in Singapore and have been ignored in Prada and Miu Miu many a time too - I simply choose to take my business elsewhere and buy most of my bags online since I don't have to deal with snotty and rude SAs in an Internet transaction.

Funnily enough, DH who makes it a habit to go shopping in high-end boutiques in his t-shirt, bermudas and slippers, always get very good service wherever he goes. I think they size people up based on more than their clothes!

The SAs at Coach Singapore, however, are pretty good in my experience. They are friendly, helpful, and willingly answer questions about their products.

Let's all write a complain letter to Liz Wong she runs Prada & Miu Miu in Singapore, I basically dislike all the SA in prada especially the malays one except for romona and YSL (this lady can't understand that silver & grey belong to the same kind of color range).

with all due respect, i do not think their ethnicity has anything to do with their level of service. my best SAs were malay-looking (they may be thai, phillippino, indonesian.... you get my point?), and my worst were chinese-looking (they can be korean or indonesian too for all i know, right?). but i do *not* think that those things are related.

i think it has to do with corporate culture more than anything.
