Isn’t it crazy that some ppl think that LV mono canvas or DE is actually leather? Lol they tell me that all the time at Neiman Marcus and Bloomies (where the LV boutiques are). That people think it’s actially leather when it’s coated canvas. Because LV does have a nice smell people really think they’re getting a full leather bag. But next to an 1941 you can tell the massive difference. The fragrant 1941 leather is amazing and LV is just coated canvas and those without purse knowledge (especially men buying for their wives) think LV js that price because it’s leather. Lol plus LVS actual leather isn’t very nice. It doesn’t have a nice smell and it isn’t soft or high quality like you’d assume a 3k bag would feel like.

It's extremely crazy, especially since the coated canvas doesn't feel anything like leather at all? I can't allow myself to spend that much on canvas. But to each their own!

Same here! Was crazy about the Classic Q Natasha, Petal to the Metal and baby Groovee.

I really liked the Classic Q Natasha but I never got it. I was obsessed with Classic Q everything! I had (well, have) the baby Groovee, Hillier, and Percy. I also have a Classic Q zip wallet that has held up through years of abuse.. I can’t say the same for my Gucci wallet..

For me, it's not necessarily about the brand, but the quality is very, very important. I like knowing that my bags are not going to end up in a landfill within a few years. It's also important to me that the people who made the bags are paid a livable wage (at least).
Many people may have misconception about the factories opened in 3rd world country. Most the contemporary designer brands uses offshore factories in order to cut the cost to make a bag. These factories pay well to the local people, much higher than the average local factories does. Most importantly, there may be no local factory at all and no jobs for the local people. Opening these offshore factories offers better working environment, help the local economy and let the local people to have the chance to work. it's a great help for these under developed country.

I have three Chanel bags and will be adding a fourth this week. Three classic flaps and a boy bag. I love the luxurious leather and the style. I also own LV and two YSL bags in leather. All beautiful bags and well made. That being said I have Coach 1941 bags, Rebecca Minkoff, Michael Kors, and Kate Spade. I love those bags and continue to use them. I rotate my bags depending on the occasion and location. I won’t stop buying contemporary brands because I own luxury brands like Chanel and LV. I’m also picking up a Mansur Gavriel and Senreve bag soon. There are some new brands creating beautifully designed bags in Italian leather at a price point between contemporary and premier designer prices.

I am another person who joined the Coach 1941 club, but I actually went back to Coach bags before the 1941 line debuted. Before that, I was mostly into LV, but I got tired of the constant price increases, and the quality really did take a dive. Case in point: my husband is pretty rough on his stuff. I bought him a Brazza wallet in 2007. After a couple of years, the edge paint was peeling, the canvas was chipping, and stitches were coming loose. I replaced it with a Coach zip around wallet. He stuffs that thing and bangs it around, and it's still holding up after several years (I've lost count!). The Coach wallet cost about 1/3 of what I paid for the Brazza wallet. I am sure the disparity in price is even greater now.

No I haven’t - my most used bag for work right now is a Tory Burch leather tote. I’m surprised it still looks like new.

I still love my LV bags & never thought canvas was leather, nor would I poke fun at anyone not in the know. I have an Epi leather bag which I love. My overpriced canvas bags - some over 10+ years old still look great, are still in style, and I’ll probably have them in another 10 even 20 years. As much as I love my TB tote, I’m not sure any leather bag truly used would wear as well after 20 years. I do still have my YSL leather besace which looks great but I don’t use it every day & it was a sale steal back in the day. I love my lux slgs too.

I’ve owned a coach rogue which I sold. I miss the old MJ collection bags with the truly plush leather & suede interiors. Heavy suckers, but they felt superb! Still have a couple old MJ zip clutches I rotate in from time to time.

Yes. I went in reverse, as well, starting with one Chanel caviar hobo with tassel, one LV Josephine PM, then four vintage Coach. All were purchased preloved in pristine condition from 2014-2015 for about $1,600 total.

Why did I head where TPF considers "down" from Chanel to vintage Coach? Simple. You can't beat the quality for the price. For example, one of my Coach bags is a caviar leather 1994 Madison Copley made in Italy bought for about $250. The only difference I can tell between it and my Chanel is the name, as the Chanel was also made in Italy.
