Did you stop buying/using contemporary bags once you go luxury?

I agree. It's not that I don't want to carry a bag because many others do. It's that I get fatigued from seeing certain bags everywhere. So I have no desire to carry them

Several years back I bought a mini MK Hamilton corssbody. I really liked the bag but then an explosion of Hamilton's were everywhere. I became really bored with the style very quickly. I just prefer something that I won't see often so I can stay enamored of it.

Off topic but I agree with this. I know a lot of people say they dislike the neverfull because so many people carry it, I have two and love them but don’t wear them often. It’s not because I don’t like them, it’s because I’m bored of seeing them everyday - it makes me less likely to carry mine. Your comment has made me realise this. Seeing a bag everywhere means it’s really functional and stylish, but I have “neverfull fatigue”

Oh my goodness I see neverfulls everywhere I look and it is practically the only recognizable bag you ever see,....it is like it rained neverfulls one day and every teenager now carries one as their school bag, etc..... I just can’t.
One big explosion where I live in the last few years is Michael Kors. Those are even more common now than the neverfull. Various styles but all with HUGE branding, either monogrammed or a giant MK medallion, or with giant gold lettering across the front that reads the name. I have such intense fatigue with anything Michael Kors and the Neverfull that I am way too bored to ever carry them.
You never ever ever see a Fendi, Prada, Gucci, Dior, Salvatore Ferragamo, etc.... on the streets where I live. The women where I live have all wordlessly agreed that it’s either no-name cheap bags, or if you can manage to swing it, a Michael Kors or the neverfull. It’s soooo boring! Variety, people!!!

Re: Neverfull fatigue. I agree. Never got one because it seems everyone and their neighbour has one. I remember several years ago, during the Le Pliage explosion, my black bag was mistakenly picked up by a guy in the xray section of an airport because he thought it was his girlfriend's bag! I can imagine the same thing happening with the ubiquity of Neverfull.

I just added a purple le pliage to my bag rotation because the fervor has died off completely where I live, and has settled down to tolerable levels in general, and I feel it’s no longer an ‘everyone and their neighbor’ situation.

I think if one appreciates buying bags, having bought luxury bags won’t stop one from buying the less expensive ones. It really depends on the need and functionality. Some or most designer bags are more aesthetic driven than anything else. And sometimes I just want a fuss free little to no accessories dangling anywhere with one simple function of carrying my things and remaining as light as possible. Luxury bags, no matter how light is still decked with higher quality hardware etc and therefore adding weight to the overall bag.

I am a brand loyalist. Dooney & Bourke and Gucci are 99% of my collection. I do find myself, now, buying more premiere over contemporary, because with the much lower prices, it is very easy to fulfill your "wish list" [typically can get all of the bags I want in one trip] versus a premiere bag [which is usually 10x + more than contemporary] i have to ration those out, so a bag may be on my "wish list" for 2 years. I can buy 5-10 Dooneys for the cost of 1 Gucci.

I've been buying a lot of smaller cost items (contemporary and pre-loved/outlet premier) and I've recently been feeling a little overwhelmed with the quantity. I love everything I've bought and feel like it's all great quality, but now I'm feeling inclined to buy less. Instead I think I'll try saving up for a premier purchase for the first time in a year. So I guess I'll be stopping with the contemporary shopping, but only because I want to save for one big item, not because I've had a problem with contemporary or want to put it behind me!

Same here :hrmm: There were floods of LV all over my city for a certain period, floods of MK, then there was a period when a lot of Prada Galleria bags were seen... I found it very strange, like all the women made some kind of secret agreement  On the other hand, in the last 5 years I have only seen maybe 3 - 4 Chanels and even less Hermes... Gucci, Dolce e Gabbana, Jimmy Choo etc. can be seen more oftenly, though :)

Back to topic: I still carry contemporary items, esp. for rainy days and for everyday use, I like the variety :)

I still buy contemporary bags but especially Michael Kors has lost some of it´s appeal to me, although I just got a Sloan bag that I really like. I spend most of my money on Louis Vuitton but I have also added Coach to the mix to get some more affordable leather bags. Coach is still very "new" in Germany so there are not a lot of people carrying Coach here.

No....maybe at first [emoji1] but nowadays I’m equal opportunity if the bag styles meet my functional, quality and aesthetic criteria. I can say that I now buy bags for myself to enjoy and not to prove anything.

I’ve moved from Coach, MK, RM to Balenciaga, Hermes, Gucci, LV and now hopefully also Burberry.

Back to buying Coach now especially the 1941 line.

I did sell off my earlier contemporary collection though once I moved into premier brands.... but have since added back a lot more Coach Rogues lately. I have to consciously change out of the Rogues to my ignored Hermes bags.

It just seems so weird to me that the speedy 30 is what made so many girls go to Premiere. It had the exact opposite effect on me. When I bought my first speedy 30 at Bloomies in the DE 2009 I was like “what did I just do?” I literally paid for a sack of canvas with leather trim, at the time Rebecca Minkoff was in her early days and was releasing AMAZING leather bags. So I literally had my speedy against my MAMs and was like “yeah... this is a rip off”
I sold that speedy (DE was hard to match to my wardrobe) but got a made in France mono one to replace it and a never full mm both in mono to have as classics for my collection but... I don’t reach for my LV At all.
I feel the same way about my Goyard St Louis... (why did I buy that again?). It’s funny because those that aren’t label savvy always compliment my full leather bags and think the Goyard is like a cheapie bag lol. And think about it. It’s literally a canvas sack with leather trim and handles and no pockets AT ALL. It probably took 20 seconds to make.
Didn’t even wear them last year.
I have to tear myself away from my Coach 1941 collection to even wear another bag... the oxblood 1941 Rogue Satchel is my favorite (and discontinued);
I don’t like Bal, I sold the 2 that I had because the leather was so thin and the color was fading, the hardware is also really cheap. I’m also not impressed by Chanel leather either at all. :/ I guess I’m just a “ITS REALLY GOOD LEATHER” girl. Alexander Wang (who I consider Premiere) still makes amazing leather bags, MCM as well. The only “Premiere” bag I’m
Even eyeing is the CHLOE Faye Day. But I will go see it in person before buying. I don’t think I’d ever add another “coated canvas” bag to my collection ever again. It just doesn’t really make sense when you think about how much that cost to
make (a sack with no pockets), the materials (leather trim and coated canvas) and how much YOU paid.
For me to really love a Premiere bag it needs to be worth what I paid. It needs to be made of amazing materials and excellent craftsmanship, and LOOK like its expensive too. So far I’ve found very few that meet that standard. Premiere bags are usually very plain on the inside with either no pockets or just one. Maybe Coach 1941 spoiled me too much with their suede interiors and excellent craftsmanship...

I also think I’m probably the only girl that doesn’t consider Longchamp LePliage totes as bags.
For me that’s a work accessory and I’d never dream of carrying one by itself as a handbag.
I just have so much beautiful leather in my collection that I’d rather rotate my bags endlessly than to ever just settle for a nylon/canvas bag or tote.
Sorry gals I’m such a leather freak
