Did you get rid of your less designer items?

I have sold a few but they were on my sell list before I got my first LV. I only have 1 coach and about 7 MK bags. I will keep them because I still love them and carry them, for instance I am currently carrying my recent eBay purchase, large MK Selma in navy. I like a variety and since my budge doesn't allow me to have a large LV collection I'll keep my current collection and enjoy it!

I sold about 90% of my Coach and Rebecca Minkoff bags, which I was an active collector so owned a decent collection. I also liked the more expansive Coach bags (so nothing from outlet). Biggest reason for selling them was that I'm no longer in love with the brands/styles. I did keep a few bags from Tory Burch and Longchamp, but for the most part my collection now is mainly LV and Chanel.

I sold off most of my Coach collection to fund my LV addiction. I kept a few vintage all leather ones - for sentimental reasons. I also sold off my Chanels- except for one vintage flap. I typically carry only LV but I love Longchamp totes for work! I have four of them and I can just throw them in the washer if they get dirty. Anything Lily Pulitzer is pretty popular here in Palm Beach County so I snap those cute totes up at consignment shops and use them for the beach.

I have gotten rid of a few pieces from contemporary designers that were clutttering up the closet. I still liked those pieces but not enough to keep. My purse closet still consists of mostly LVs and a few leather Coach pieces that I adore. There are a few oddballs still around that I intend on keeping forever like a very old Kooba purse with beautiful leather and a cute Longchamp Le Pliage. And, I recently added two Tory Burch bags to my collection. Sometimes you just want to add something new and different without the guilt of spending so much.

I sold my MK bag and wallet to fund an LV purchase. Another MK bag and wallet i gave to my mother and have only kept one coach bag for sentimental value. Only have LV and Chanel in my very small handbag collection now!

I've been accumulating LVs recently and plan to sell some of my contemporary designer items MK, TB, etc (but will probably will still keep some like Longchamp for bad weather, etc) . For those of you who have sold contemporary designer bags, do you sell on eBay or are there other sites you've had success with?

I used to work in the handbag business and acquired a ton of handbags (MK, Vince Camuto) during this time. I gave away most of my MK to my mom, because she loves the styles and brands and it would just sit in my closet.

I am planning on buying a Longchamp soon for a more understated/winter friendly city bag. But, I wouldn't turn away a good price on a MBMJ (always has been a favorite) or the new Coach vintage leather line (to die for!). Oh, also wouldn't turn away J.W. Hulme (if anyone knows that brand)

I guess I would say, it truly depends on the bag/brand/price though I would still save up for my LVs and Balenciagas.

I'd suggest consignment or - if you can't rehome them elsewhere - I've had OK luck with the site ThredUP, but the returns are not very high on bags. On the plus side, bags seem to move quickly especially as there are relatively few listed in comparison to clothes.

ETA - I totally misread this thread title as HOW did you get rid...! Sorry.

When I got my Birkin, and later my Jumbo Flap, I was incredibly happy, and in a sort of euphoria. This happiness can quite be overwhelming, as you may start spending on unnecessary items to match your bags etc. Along with this you'd want to carry high-end stuff every day, to every occasion etc... But after some time, and when the euphoria is gone, we have to admit that non-designer or non-premier bags may be handy from time to time ;)
And also premier designer SLG can be appealing at the beginning, but may not fulfill all our wishes in the long run. I feel that items such as wallets or make-up bags are manipulated more often than not, and they get used and abused. I have been lusting over Chanel, H and LV wallets and make-up bags... But now I just realise that these items are sold at very high prices, and may lose their appeal after a few years of use. So I prefer to buy cheaper wallets and SLGs, and to use my money to fund more bags
Thank you for this tip. I'm new to LV and just purchased my first bag. Of course I want all the SLGs to put inside. I will focus on the canvas because I want my investment to last.

I just started with LV, a pre-loved Saumur 30. I do have some vintage Kate Spade wicker baskets that I would never sell. I have one red Coach bag that I love but I cannot see myself buying Coach ever again and I have never liked Kate Spade's newer bags.

I got rid of my MK bags not long ago - I've made sure I wasn't using them anymore, for a whole year I didn't touch any of them. But honestly, I got rid of them, because I didn't like MK anymore. I'm not sure if the designer changed or I did, but when I went on his website I was a bit disgusted with how he copies other brands and styles, it made me feel my bags were cheap in a way - like I got them at a marketplace somewhere. I no longer had any enjoyment for them so there was no point in keeping them. When I've got them, MK was still not very well known brand in Poland, now I see every second girl on the street carrying the same bag... I also had one Kate Spade bag (Cedar Street Mandy) which I loved to death but I've used it so much and for so many years, it fell apart. I've replaced her recently with my Gucci Soho Disco and I'm even happier with that one than with former. I still have my Longchamp bags and I can't imagine ever getting rid of the Le Pliage - when one falls apart, I immediately go to the store to buy another!

I don't think I care that all my collection has to be high end. If I see a bag I like - even from a contemporary designer - I see no reason why I shouldn't get it. In fact, I wouldn't mind some more variety, because my collection right now is just four handbags so it's not always easy to make it work...

I feel same about Le Pliage. I'll always have at least one

I got rid of my MK ( which is really hard in norway, for a decent price, after some fashionlady called them "harry" which could be translated to trashy maybe?..
