Did you get rid of your less designer items?

I can't stand Michael Kors- he knocks off everyone and they are EVERYWHERE. I have a Tory Burch crossbody, several Lonhchamp Le Pliage's for travel, two Rebecca Minkoff crossbody's and everything else is LV with the exception of some YSL/ Saint Laurent. I actually like some of the Minkoff/ Tory Burch bags but for $600 I'd rather put that money towards some LV...

I can relate to this. Sometimes it's good to have a low profile bag in certain situations, an example for me was when I would go to an Oakland A's game, I wouldn't want to be flaunting a flashy bag in an area like that. Plus, someone can spill something on it when they walk by you with beer or food.

I didn't have THAT many coach/MK bags, mine were from the outlet though, so I had maybe paid $90-125 for them. I ended up donating one and selling the other at a garage sale. I still have one MK bag because I do like the brown leather.

I did recently buy 2 bags at Coach and MK outlets. I was looking for a small black cross body bag for around $100.

I do have a few LC bags, plus a luggage piece and will likely add another one into the mix. I don't plan on selling these. I like having them for totes because I don't need to worry about banging/scratching/staining them up.

There are also other situations when it comes in handy to carry an under the radar bag (and not wear nice rings), like if you are haggling for something! That's one example that comes to mind! :D

When I got my Birkin, and later my Jumbo Flap, I was incredibly happy, and in a sort of euphoria. This happiness can quite be overwhelming, as you may start spending on unnecessary items to match your bags etc. Along with this you'd want to carry high-end stuff every day, to every occasion etc... But after some time, and when the euphoria is gone, we have to admit that non-designer or non-premier bags may be handy from time to time ;)
And also premier designer SLG can be appealing at the beginning, but may not fulfill all our wishes in the long run. I feel that items such as wallets or make-up bags are manipulated more often than not, and they get used and abused. I have been lusting over Chanel, H and LV wallets and make-up bags... But now I just realise that these items are sold at very high prices, and may lose their appeal after a few years of use. So I prefer to buy cheaper wallets and SLGs, and to use my money to fund more bags :)

That's a good point about buying the cheaper wallets and SLGs.

Actually, that's why I love LV wallets in canvas, because they last a decade, you can clean them easily, and they are very elegant. I would not recommend a leather wallet as, in my experience, they age faster (but yes some of them are gorgeous of course!).

My very first 'designer' wallet was a bifold from Mont Blanc and it showed leather creases pretty fast. My second 'designer' wallet was a bifold with snaps from LV in the now defunct Monogram Glacé line. It was gorgeous but after a few years, it showed significant wear. Then, I switched to canvas: I bought a LV Porte Papiers, which is a great piece, and a Goyard porte cartes. I was very unhappy with the quality of Goyard and sold it after my BF bought me the Neo Porte Cartes in Macassar.

A few months ago, I added a Zippy Vertical in Mono Cobalt and a Pocket Organizer in Mono Blanc.

All of this to say... LV canvas wallets have never failed me!

Thank you for your feedback! LV canvas is really great indeed! I have a Multiclés that I constantly use. If it keeps well for the years to come, then I might get a canvas wallet. They look really pretty.

I've sold most of my MK and coach bags to fund my LV bags. That being said, I still have one black leather coach bag that I adore and use very often. I find the quality of my coach leather bag great and that's what matters to me. I keep what I use and sell or handover my items no longer in use. Basically, quality and utility is what's important to me....

My collection has changed drastically. I have sold some contemporary, and I have given some to family. People I gave them too love the bags. My style has changed somewhat, and I will still buy less designer items. I don't have any less designer bags except for Vera Bradley and another brand quilted tote bag. Vera Bradley does not get much love on this forum, but their bags serve a purpose in my life. I enjoy using them. I don't feel comfortable or think it is wise to carry expensive bags everywhere. I believe all bags have a purpose, and I buy what I like and will use.

I have been collecting LV bags for 12 years, and in recent years Chanel. But I just bought my 1st Michael Kors. This MK looks like a pretend Chanel but in a denim material. I just liked it when I saw it and used it today since I was going to the nail salon. I don't like bringing my nice bags there or to other places where there could be chemicals or spills like arenas or movie theaters. The quality is surprisingly good. Especially the chain straps. Whether it wears well or not remains to be seen. After spending a few thousand on a premier brand it feels like the price of a contemporary bag is so low it's next to nothing. It's all relative. Like the Hermes collector who may have sold off all of their LV's.

I had Tory Burch, Kate Spade and Longchamp. I had admired LV from afar until I felt i was in a position to get them. Also, about 5 years ago went vegetarian so felt hypocritical carrying all leather bags. I've sold my TB and KS but still love my Longchamp. And my LV bags have minimal leather so I don't feel as bad.
I feel there are different bags for different situations and don't think I'd part with my Longchamp even with my LV's.

I've sold most of my other designer bags but kept at least one from each designer, and also the ones that are gifts from DH but I make sure the ones I keep are very different from my LVs in terms of colour, design and functionality. I agree there are different bags/designers for different situations.

I just can't carry a bag thats not a luxury designer anymore..... I hope that doesn't sound awful but I LOVE my LV,Hermes,Chanel, Goyard and Fendi the most! I find myself using Tory Burch just for her clutches when I travel but I personally think that Michael Kors has lost its glamour and going in the way of coach. It seems that when designers open up a bunch of outlet stores to sell their items it takes away the exclusivity. I have only discovered Goyard this year and love that you don't see it everywhere and get very excited when I see someone carrying one.:smile1::love eyes: But everyone loves different things and thats what makes the world go round :okay::tup:

As a less expensive bag that I do really like is Henri Bendel bags. I have bought them for my teenage daughter and am very impressed with the classic styles and colours! But when I say less expensive I mean compared to LV etc.

No, I kept all of my bags, regardless of the brand, because I have enough love to go around in my closet and they represent me. The only time a purse was re-homed, usually with another member of my family, was because it no longer met the needs of my lifestyle and neither LV or Chanel was immune.
