lovehermes, I can't believe you haven't made your final decision yet. Why don't you have them bring in some sizes in between? You will find the right size. It will just take some time.

How do you make sure they don't fall off?
I always lose my earrings, so I prefer to wear earrings that aren't too expensive, so that it wont really matter. My mother has been telling me for years that she'll buy me diamond studs if I let the "extra" piercings in my ears close up and go back to only having one in each ear (I used to have 3+2, now it's 2+2 because I lost another earring and forgot to put a new one in) Anyway, I've never been too interested in taking her up on her offer, but I'm starting to think I might be getting too old for the multiple piercings, plus they keep closing up when I lose the earrings anyway. I nicked a pair of small diamond studs from my mom a while ago, and I haven't lost them so I'm thinking maybe diamond studs sit better than my other earrings?? Any thoughts? Because I'd feel horible if I got a nice pair and lost them.

Uh, I just realized I'm not wearing either of the diamond studs. Maybe I lost them?? :s

edit: I looked through my jewlery box, they're not there so I must've lost them :push: I guess you can nevermind my question then, as it seems highly unlikely that I'd be capable of not losing another set of diamond studs. Ah well

Keya, if you get another pair you should special order the setting and get the screwback style. They take a bit more work to put on, but are MUCH more difficult to lose. I have the traditional butterfly backs on my studs, but I compulsively check them during the day to make sure they are snug against my ear. Knock on wood, I've never lost an earring yet. Here's a pic of a pair of CZ earring in a screwback settings, but diamonds are also set that way. I have several types of gemstone earrings with the screwmount backs and just love them. Partly because I don't have to take them out when I shower!

Hi Kellybag! Well, I did finally settle on 3.00 total carat wt. diamond studs and love them! I use a plastic backing to keep them straight on my ears.

my boyfriend just got me a pair of diamond studs, 1 carat in total  (<- that smiley is for the man, not the studs. Although I  them too! :p) They're not the screwback style, though (he probably doesn't even know that they exist, he came up with getting me a pair out of the blue, I never even hinted that I would like a pair) I'm a bit worried that I'll lose them, but since he gave them to me I don't want to change the setting.

Well, to tell you the truth, I'm 47. I just bought a pair of diamond studs that are 1.25 per each ear. I'm not sure if I'll feel later that they are too small. I'm worried that I might get used to the size. I wear classic, simple clothing and don't want anything too large. Maybe the size I bought is too large?

A lot of jewelry stores have a "trade up" policy where you and trade in your diamond earrings/necklace and put the full original sale price toward your up grade. Anyhow, I think 1.25 ct per ear is quite a nice size and will serve you well. When they get too large they stretch the ear, which is very unattractive.

You don't have to change the setting, just have a jewelers solder a screwback post in place of your current one. I do it all the time and it costs practically nil.

hi girls, i have a question:

i recently got my ears pierced (for the first time!) and as a gift, my parents got me diamond studs. I'm really lucky, and my parents were so sweet and generous that they got me 2ct per year. I remember that when I got my ears pierced, the nurse who did it told me that I had small ear lobes, and now, when I put the studs in, I'm always a little taken aback by the new studs. I can't help but think that maybe I should ask my parents to take me to the store so I can get something smaller, but then I'm afraid that if I do so, I'll regret it in a few months and want the bigger ones.

What do you ladies think? Does the size eventually grow on you? I don't want people to look and think "blinnnnnngggg" but I do admit that I catch my breath whenever I see that sparkle!

Thank you so much!
