Diamond studs - sizing help

I want to get some that won't be too flashy for every day wear, but that still stand alone and look great for night time. I'm thinking 3 carat tw (1.5 each ear), but my husband thinks 4 carat tw would be better.

I just want some general feedback about size... so what would be your ideal, and what do you have?

I have tried on various sizes, and I still just can't decide. I lean towards smaller - even 2 carat tw I like, but my husband keeps telling me to get bigger ones because I'll get used to them and want to upgrade. I like them all, I'm just trying to factor appropriateness into the equation. I don't want to be the girl wearing giant diamond studs with 'mom clothes' at the playground, 'ya know?

I think there's such a small difference between 3.5 and 4 carat TOTAL weight {would only end up being only be a .25 carat/ear } that you won't notice it really. If you tend to get used to stone size and can afford it, I'd size up.
I only have 2 cttw and they're definitely big enough for everyday and also evening wear, but I'd like an extra .5 carat per ear making them 3cttw.

If you take them off every night drooping shouldn't be a problem unless I guess if you already have stretched ear holes{?}

I say go for the bigger set, no diamonds are too big if you can afford them! You can prevent droop with flat disc posts.

Myself I wear 7.5mm round cz, both studs are the equivalent of 3cts. I like them. Unfortunately with my .75ct diamond studs, my large earlobes become emphasized with such small studs.

I think it depends on your features... I've seen some beautiful small studs on women with finer bone and facial structure.

Good lord, woman! I just saw your ring at the e-ring thread. You NEED the larger studs!! ;)

I actually asked this question a while ago. I have around 2 ctw and am planning on sizing up a bit. I think the perfect size depends on several things including size of ears and ear lopes and overall body size as well as personal style and just what looks best on you...I am very petite with small ears and lobes but my lobes are a bit chunky so I think that makes a difference also. My mother also has small ears and lobes but her lobes are super delicate and the same size studs look larger on her then me...she only wear 1 ctw but it looks much larger on her

Okay, this is mean to be a fun thread to see the pattern of carat size vs age:smile1:

I am planning to buy my first pair of diamond stud earrings. I am 30 yo and has been indulged myself with a few of Chanel and Hermes handbags. I suddenly lost interested in handbag (probably because sick of the waiting list and increasing price) and decided to use my 'Birkin/Kelly fund" to purchase a pair of diamond studs. I think i am reaching an age to appreciate diamonds (my friend start her diamond collection in mid 20s . well... I hope I am not too late). I am also reaching an age where I don't like to keep too many tiny things here and there.

I read some threads mentioning as you getting older you tend to get a larger carat (as you are financially affordable and your eye sight become blurry ;))
can you share with me your journey with the carat size? how old were you when you first got your diamond studs? and the size? how old are you now and what is the carat size? I am also aware that size affected by the ear lobes. :p

I have viewed this very useful site http://www.ajediam.com/Sizes-of-Diamonds.html and I think 0.75-1 carat each ear probably look good on me and that's what I like and what I can afford. My friend's jeweler will search for me according to my other 3C. so I start first

First diamond studs (30 years old) : 0.75-1 each ear or 1.5-2 total carat

I'm 35, and my ideal size would be 1.5cttw. I have metal allergies in my ears and can only wear titanium, so no diamond studs for me. I found a supplier in the UK that makes titanium and CZ earrings. I have a pair that are the same size as 1cttw and a pair that are 2 cttw and right in the middle would have been best for everyday wear. The 2cttw I only wear when I go "out".

I am almost 33 and I wear tiny studs. I wear a .33ctw right now, and at most Ill probably go up to about .66 ctw. I just like little studs. Nothing much is delicate about me, so I make up for it with delicate earrings.
