Diamond studs - sizing help

I absolutely agree with you. Thank God, when it comes to quality - I can stay super relaxed. My husband is a maniac in this field. As he sees every piece of jewelry as a kind of investment (into .......?), he anyways buys just „D“ and „vsi1“ or whatever seems to be good enough to keep the value. I also do not hold him back doing so - when he needs a rational argument for an emotional decision - be it so! He also has to feel good!

I started off with very small studs when I was in college because I couldn’t afford much but upgraded throughout the years to 1ct total. While those were nice I inherited my grandmothers first wedding ring which was 1ct. I decided to buy another 1ct diamond and make them into earrings. Honestly I love the 2ct size. They are timeless and I never grow old of wearing them. Anything larger and I think people will just probably think they are CZs.
Honestly if you think they are too boring I would ask your hubby for something else that makes your heart sing because that’s a lot of money to spend on something if you won’t wear it much. That’s sweet of him to think of it. My hubby can’t afford my taste lol.

There is no right size. My studs are 1.20 carats total weight, so .60 per ear, and I love them. I used to have .75tw, and I loved them too, It’s down to you, and what you feel comfortable with wearing.

Echoing the other posters, there’s no such thing as “the perfect size” since so much of it depends on your personal style, your surroundings/environment, the size of your earlobe etc. I personally think that you should consider your current jewellery when planning the size of the studs you want to buy, especially jewellery you will wear all the time. If you have a sizeable ring + tend to wear a lot of bling then big earrings will not look as out of place as it will get balanced out.

I absolutely agree with you all, but on a more formal occasion, you usually do not overstress the bling. Therefore I thought, you will probably have an idea, if there is a kind of "borderline of good taste". Now I will go and try different sizes and share the result with you!

I’m not sure what you mean exactly by formal occasions, but I agree with you that diamond solitaire studs can be kind of boring. I don’t think anyone ever looks twice at diamond studs no matter how big because they are worn everywhere by everyone for any type of occasion. Why don’t you go for some other kind of stud earring? I can’t imagine any formal occasions that require diamond studs. The only time I HAD to wear mine was when the bride requested all the bridesmaids wear them.

Meh. I think there is a “too big” for everyone. I’m not in the “bigger is always better” category. I also agree - there are so many more interesting options you could find for formal events. I don’t know that I would limit myself to studs. But it is all about what works for you.

I think the most important factor is what looks good on YOUR ears, not carat weight. Everyone's earlobes are different sizes and the look you're going for should complement your earlobe size. A few years ago I tried on a pair that was 3 CTW and they were perfect. They were out of my budget at the time, but fit my ears without being overpowering. So that's what size I will look for in the future.

Sorry for my incorrect wording (sometimes I have troubles to express myself - English is not my mother tongue). What I ment by „formal occasions“ where all these business related events - business dinners, price giving ceremonies, conventions, company Christmas parties and so on. At these events formal codes count more than personal style.

The beauty of diamond studs is you can wear them daily with jeans and you can wear for formal occasions as well. Good luck deciding!

I agree that it depends on your lobe size. I actually prefer really tiny diamonds (I wear and love my catbird chained to my heart studs way more than my normal diamond studs), but I have smaller lobes and it’s a look that skews younger and less corporate. For business formal situations you probably want the biggest stud that looks good on your earlobes.

I am a less is more thinker. I ended up getting ⅓ carat each but set them in elegant halos of very small, almost pave diamonds. They are perfect for wearing any time, any place...with jeans or at a formal event. I started off thinking I wanted bigger stones, but IMHO big ones limit their use. I wear mine with my 2 carat diamond ring which I also set in a halo. For the ring I told the jewelry to find a setting with lots of bling. . it is a matter of personal preference, so buy what appeals to you for the purpose you have in mind. I chose smaller so I could wear them every day and I have not regretted the decision.

I prefer small studs as well as long as they look proportional to the earlobe.
