Diamond studs - sizing help

I only have one set of ear piercings, so can’t comment on that. I don’t sleep or shower in mine, but I put them on every morning even if I’m not leaving the house. Another question that is often asked is about screw backs. I’ve heard too many stories, even from the likes of reputable jewelers, about the threads on screw back posts getting distorted to the point the backs no longer thread. They also collect a lot of gunk, so frequent cleaning is essential. My ear holes are very small and screw back posts tend to be have a larger gauge. Mine have standard posts with jumbo backs, which are very secure.

I actually lost one during covid. I was taking mask on and off and lost my diamond earring....fortunately I found it in my bra but never found the back. and I was travelling so no chance of recovery at home.

Oh no! I’ve ordered mine with screw backs. Does taking them on and off cause the wear and tear? I just planned to leave mine in all the time. I lost earrings before that weren’t screw backs so I thought this was the safest option!
Taking them on and off definitely contributes to the thread wear. And due to the aforementioned gunk build up, they should be taken off for cleaning fairly regularly. Can you change your order to regular posts with jumbo backs? Or is there a return policy you could rely on to have the setting changed out? You could always wear them with the screw backs and reset them if they start having issues. I *believe* 14k gold is better for screw backs vs. platinum. It might be worth doing some quick research before deciding how to proceed. GL!
My Queen you know how to make a girl swoon. Your 5.17 studs have been my inspiration and are my goal studs. I love love them all. I can’t imagine how you pick which ones to wear.I love big studs but they are not for everyone...buy what you feel comfortable wearing. I'm very tall with fleshy earlobes, so the bigger the better!

I have two sets of lobe piercings one tragus & one flat piercing. I wear diamonds in all of them. For my lobes I wear 3.4 ctw in first piercing and 1.10 ctw in second. Maria Tash diamond pieces in the other two. I wear them daily and take out weekly to clean and put back in.
I have Laprousse backs on both pair of my studs. Totally secure and not as painful as screw backs which my ears can’t handle.
I have mentioned these earring backs several times on tPF and several members have bought them and love them. Also fits on screw backs! Make sure to order the backs with the DISCS...your earrings will sit up perfectly, no drooping! Comes in (faux) YG, Plat and RW. The best and most secure backs I've ever used!

Yes, I wear mine in the first holes. I have 2nd holes but almost never wear earrings gin them, not sure I still could. But if I did the solitaires would still be in 1st due to size.
I’d never sleep in them or shower in them. I was warned not to by jeweler that said it can loosen prongs to sleep in them (plus mine wouldn’t be comfortable due to size) and showering will cause buildup.

Agreed, these back are everything! Much better than screwback and butterfly backs to me. They fit my studs, Cartier and Chopards!

I’ve been contemplating a Maria Tash stud for one of my piercings…it’s right where the lobe meets the cartilage on the helix and I currently have a 5 mm crystal flatback stud that nestles in there perfectly. But Tash’s diamonds in this size are out of my budget and I can’t find any other body jewelry make that uses stones other than CZ. And “regular” studs with butterfly backs would be uncomfortable for 24/7 wear. Argh!
I can’t imagine taking them off every night. I’m terrified of losing mine but I never knew sleeping in them could loosen the prongs. I never worry about buildup as I take baths instead of showers. I have started not wearing when getting monthly facials as the buildup from that DMK mask is brutal to get off.
sure here you go. I agree her pieces are pricey however the screw in mechanism is everything for comfort.

My studs are 2 ctw and I usually wear them in my 3rd hole but will occasionally wear them in my first. I don’t take them out until it’s time to clean them.
