Designer Brands You Will Never Buy

Once upon a time, looked down upon MK. Now, i like them more and more. Still dont own one. But the folks around me who own them, seem to love it. And i see how durable they are for the price paid. The big logos are removable, and they did take them off. I am surprised myself to how good the bags look with wear and tear. Still dont want to own one because of the mental block i created over the years. But i would no longer say never.

As for brands, it's hard to say never but I've been disappointed with Coach each time I've gone into their stores, they seem to offer about the same quality as Michael Kors but at a significantly higher price point.

I don't have a problem with MK as a brand just with him as a designer (he takes designed inspired to the next level and beyond) ~ Captain Derivative!

Albeit, I won't complain because it lets me purchase relatively trendy bags for friends at an affordable price. :D

LV. I think they are too overpriced and too many fakes. I don't know much of his bags. But I watch many women walk with them and I cant tell if its authentic or a fake. I prefer Michael Kors. Prices are more affordable and the quality is pretty good too. My personal opinion.

I know these are well made and beautiful bags for many of girls and ladies...however, they just can not make my heart beat fast enough to pull my purse out ...
SO I have never bought or even think of owing one...it is just me:
Anyone has the similar experience with me? On any other brands?
Jimmy Choo
Celine
Fendi
Chloe
Valentino
Proenza Schouler

I guess I look at the quality of my current contemporary bags in comparison to the several high-end designers that I have purchase and consequently returned/sold (i.e., Balenciaga and Phillip Lim..if you consider this high-end).

I am a big MK fan and probably to the detriment of others given some of the comments I have read in the "bags you would never buy" thread... However, for the price point, I can't find a lot of difference in the quality of my saffiano MK bags and a $2,000 Balenciaga City. I will say that I don't buy high end bags anymore because of the anxiety it causes for me to use it. I don't find it enjoyable. I am constantly obsessed with ensuring the bag doesn't get damaged, or stolen, or whatever given that it cost the same as the down payment on a car. That is just not pleasurable in my mind and makes the bag increasingly more and more unappealing. The feeling of calm and relief that washes over me when I switch out of those expensive bags into one of MK Selma's is quite hard to describe in words and something I hope others would understand. If anything were to happen to those bags (and trust me.. I am not easy on them.. I put them on the floor.. sling them over my shoulder... take them in the rain), it would not be the end of my world.

The other upside is I can have more variety given the price point.

So I would say that although these high end bags definitely make my heart beat fast... it also gives me high blood pressure and anxiety. Therefore, I think in terms of the Yerkes-Dodson law, the arousal is just too high to pull the trigger!

Fun thread!

It's tough to write-off a whole brand's bags--little treats of design can appear in all.

But, some I haven't found attractive yet, despite looking irl & reading tpf comments--celine, hermes, louis vuitton.

Also, I'm not attracted to "bargain" bags. If what I want gets discounted, awesome--but, I don't "rescue" cheap bags on principle.
Owning more attracts me less than owning little of exactly what I want.

(I guess I don't feel that anxious about setting any bag on the floor--there are plenty of leather cleaners in this world.
If one gets ruined, stores sell more. Though, I do get attached to some old handbag friends--& such goodbyes can be hard.)

I don't hate any designer handbag, really. I highly dislike counterfeit handbags and I think we all can agree on this.

I stay in my price range, and what I can afford. I like Coach, Michael Kors and the understated Furla. Come tax season I'm hoping to get my hands on my first LV. <3 That is all. (:

I think this was an OP of a new thread that was moved and merged with this one.

I look at premier designer bags every chance I get. However I can easily talk myself out of them because:

1. They are too big for what I want.
2. They don't have the features that I want.
3. I can find something similar that has the features and quality I want at a lower price point.

This is why I end up with Coach bags. The leather and designs are a good fit for my style, and the bag styles are versatile in that they go with a lot of different clothing and outfits. I do reject A LOT of Coach bags too. They just make so many styles, it's easy to be picky. I think most of the Coach bags I have are high quality. (There were a few mistakes early on, not as much any more.) I get the impression that many premier designers have fewer lines of bags. They may have a lot of styles, but many are derivative of their other styles. I don't see many diverse families of bags within a single designer's offerings, except maybe Celine? But we don't get those where I live - I have only seen a trapeze IRL. :shrugs:

I suppose if I could go to Barneys every month I would feel differently. :graucho:

I had never heard of the Yerkes-Dodson law before reading this, but it would definitely apply to me here as well. I get all uptight about my most expensive bag, which did not cost even $1000.00, so I can't imagine what taking 2K + bag in public would do to my cortisone levels.

You know, another cool thing about carrying mk is that someone from this board might see you & mistake you for a "bum" and give you a couple of bucks out of pity. :P

I totally get what you are saying. I don't have any bags that cost me more than $2k, but I have found myself drawn to some more mid-level brands of late (Mansur Gavriel and Clare Vivier). I can buy them without such a huge sense of commitment and wear them without worry. I still love my Proenzas, Chanels, YSLs, etc, and hope to carry them gain one day –*but it's been a nice relief.
