Designer Brands You Will Never Buy

Not taking any sides here but I will say that at 17 I started a blog that SERIOUSLY took off and I am still doing that now at 21 (while I'm in school of course). I don't want to brag or disclose but I was able to do extremely well for my age doing that so although more rare, it's definitely possible to make good money at a young age!

+1 - I am remaining impartial, but pointing out that like the user above, I have recently turned 21 and doing pretty well for myself, so it is possible (while I agree, more rare).

However to an extent, I understand why some people look at younger folk and think "how can they afford that?" or "how can they do that?" which is why I don't mind when people ask me about my current situation :).

I have no idea why it is an issue for you guys about me being 17 and owning designer goods.
I hope some of you know that 17 year olds do have jobs nowadays...I'm no "heiress" (I would have to be a girl to be an heiress.) that has his "mommy" buy him nice bags that matches hers.
I work 7 days a week on top of being a full time student and the school I commute to gave me a full scholarship so all of the money I make can be used for these purchases.
I grew up with parents that started a business from scratch which propelled me to learn to work hard get what I want from a very young age.

The brain is not PHYSICALLY mature until you are 25...but, there are many other factors that contribute to a person that possesses a mature personality. Maturity and immaturity is variant among people of all ages. Not all 17 year olds are impulsive and immature like Holden Caulfield. (He is definitely not an archetype for all the teenagers out there.)

I hope this shows that I do have other things to do other than collect fancy bags.

Oh and I did not proclaim class boundaries so please stop twisting my words. I said I felt pity because I THINK (<--opinion not factual) that MK customers have been lied to and deceived with something that they find as a quality designer goods when its something that is mass produced and overpriced.

Now please can we get
:back2topic:

I started working at 16. Begged my parents to work as a matter of fact. My parents were hard working and I wanted for nothing. I wanted to work and earn my own for me. I bought my first leather jacket , paid for my driving classes , bought my own clothes, paid 2 bills in my house, my own spending money, paid for karate classes and saved up 6 grand for school by the time I hit 18. Other 16 year olds I worked with did different things. Some of them bought their own cars. Most worked to save money for college.

I say kudos to you!!! Does not matter about age. Everyone is different and has different things which are important to them. You value working hard. These days I wish more kids in that age range would learn what it's like to work hard for what you want.

I don't mind when people look at younger people and wonder too but a few people were being extremely rude on here and I couldn't just sit there and not say anything.

I'm glad there are so many people like you and me who start earning early!! It feels great to start earning from a very young age.

Thank you so much!!! You paid for so much on your own!! Your parents must be extremely proud of you!! That is amazing!! 6 grand by 18 is very very good!!! When I started working I had intentions to save up for school as well, when I found out I did not have to pay for school I thought it would be nice to invest in something that I truly love which is handbags. And I thought sharing on here would be a good thing but I did not expect users to say the rude things they said.

And you are right! Everyone is different, my sister has zero interest in handbags so she saved up and bought a car, and my brothers saved up to pay for college and moved out to live on their own while earning and going to school. I wish the older generations really encouraged the younger generations to work instead of attacking them and saying they "are not mature and should be normal teenagers" (whatever that means) or something like "17 year olds have their mommys pay for it."

I feel like people on this board are pretty respectful on the whole. I also consider MK a basic mall brand but I don't think people who wear MKs are trashy, I just think they're buying what they like & can afford. And at that not everyone is super into purses even if they can afford higher end designers. For example one of my BFFs is "whatever" about handbags but owns 3 BMWs

I don't know I guess in life I've seen just as much rude behavior from people wearing LV (my fav) or Chanel as I have from people wearing MK or Coach. Even though I love purses, I don't think a handbag is an extension of anyone's personality or of how nice a person they are by any means!

Well said 😊

I would never buy/wear anything Hu go Bo ss. Hitler's tailor? Enough said.

I split the name to avoid the autolink to their online store lol.

Really? That was years ago and you can't hold Hugo Boss AG responsible for that, that's like blaming todays Germany for the killing of the russians, romanis and the jews in the concentration camps.

I see you own some Louis Vuitton products, are you going to get rid of those? since LV collaborated with Nazis to deport jews from France to the concentration camps in Nazigermany.

I love Hugo's coats, shirts and their underwear is great!

Of course I am not holding the company responsible for its founder's actions during WWII. But they did keep his name and this mere fact is enough to provoke automatic revolt and disgust when I see it. I'm not judging anybody who chooses to wear it; it's just my personal visceral reaction. I just see the name of the guy who designed and manufactured the SS uniforms, rather than the modern company with the AG suffix.

I have no knowledge of LV's involvement during the war and find it shocking. I'll make sure to read up on that. Thanks for pointing it out!

I think that´s as valid a reason as any - if not more... this is also the reason why I never have and never will buy even a lipstick from Chanel *shrugs*

Coco Chanel was also apparently a huge Nazi sympathizer/supporter if that's your reason today for staying away from specific brands

Don't get me wrong the Nazis were horrible but it would be like me as a person of Irish descent in 2014 hating on people from England bc of what the Black and Tans did in 1920 to my great grandmother, which made the family say "F this noise, we're off to America". I wasn't born yet & don't hold British people I meet today accountable for things that happened three generations ago.

I didn't know about Chanel either... I just looked up LVk8's article and am shocked. I totally understand you; knowing what you know, just the name makes you nauseous.

Thanks for the Chanel link; it was a most shocking read. I am a man so am not into Chanel, but I understand how it would make you think twice!!!

I'm sorry but I don't think your analogy stands. I was talking about being instinctively/automatically revulsed by a specific name/person who played a significant part in the atrocities of WWII, while you talk about hating the descendants of a whole people. Of course we can't blame today's Brits for what happened back then. Conversely, I am more than entitled to blame this specific person for his own involvement.

And, again, I was explaining my personal visceral reaction; we're all free to buy or not to buy whichever brand we please with/despite the information we have.

I would never buy a proenza schouler. Just doesn't appeal to me visually. Also probably not a Balenciaga. Tried hard to like them, but don't see the big deal. Most of Gucci bags don't appeal to me that much either, or the Fendis, but occasionally some pieces I like, so am keeping my options open.

Lots of fashion houses and businesses survived that period by sucking up to who ever is in power. We know nothing about the life or lifestyles of our current designers. We dont know which ones hire photographers who couch cast their models. We know how some do drugs. We dont know about the lives of bankers who invest our money when you collect interest from the bank. Or anything of that sort. Its a rabbit hole if we start digging.
