Designer Brands You Will Never Buy

I've found a number of bags manufactured in China to be of high quality from smaller lines (Harlex, Artemis). Hand-sewn, well put together, nice leathers, etc. I have very well made Coach and Reed Krakoff bags as well.

My problem with it though is the price point as compared to the labor cost. In Europe, the work costs more whereas it's cheap in many Asian countries. Seeing premier designers like Prada, Burberry, and Mulberry manufacture in China while raising their prices is absurd to me. That they are just increasing their profit margin by lowering labor costs isn't acceptable.

Contemporary lines at lower price points manufactured in China (Michael Kors, Kate Spade, Rebecca Minkoff, Coach, Tory Burch, to name a few) make more sense and I'll still buy them if I like the item, but I can't justify spending $2500 on a bag where the person/people who made it will take years, maybe decades, to earn that much.

Yes. This. ^^

Celine's Phantom. I recently saw one being carried and it looked like a huge black bat. Not sure what's attractive there. I don't care for the Gucci logo on canvas, only the leather. As much as I adore my Michael Kors watches for their quality and low price point, the bags screaming "MK" are very hard for me to take. Valentino -- my one leather bag has not-so-minor quality issues that are pretty shocking for the price point. If I'm spending over $500, you'd better have your QC issues figured out! And Hermes.....not to say I don't like their bracelets (the H Clic is one of my favorite things to wear), but the idea of spending what they are asking for one of their bags would feel gross and wasteful to me. Plus, I would feel like a Real Housewife. Of course, it's all relative, isn't it?;)

I don't like Louis Vuitton nor will I ever wear them. They make you look so prententious... and since it is so popular people probably think it's a fake
I love Birkin bags, I own one, but I HATE it when girls put their birkins in front of them so everyone can notice it's a birkin. Ughh! It's like they buy it for other people to see it. I will never do that
I don't like Coach and Juicy Couture bags either.

LV makes you look pretentious but a Birkin doesn't? Okay.....:confused1:

Longchamp, cannot justify spending that much for nylon.

LV check and mono, seems like everyone has the check bag and it is canvas.

Burberry canvas, similar reasoning with LV.

Gucci canvas as well.

Chanel, the quilt pattern also looks odd to me.

I guess my tastes are more old fashioned! I enjoy leather durability and look.

I love LV ! every piece of it. except the ones with perforated holes all over, can't remember which collection it was, from year 2004 i think?

I won't ever buy Anteprima, the wire bags look so strange, does not seem practical as an everyday bag

I don't think I could ever count a brand out completely on the off chance that I eventually see some design that I really love.
I do have a list of brands that I'm unlikely to ever purchase from though. I hope no one is too offended; these are just my opinions.

Louis Vuitton
I get that the monogram and the damier prints are classic and have a history, but it completely goes against my style. I like a bag that the average person might admire from a distance and wonder who it's by; then, when they go in for a closer look, they see a small, unobtrusive logo. Not one that is practically "shouting" it's name because it's so recognizable (and also so counterfeited). I question if my opinion is stemming from the sense that the world seems over saturated with LV though. Maybe it's my inner snob/hipster. Because I will say I liked how the special edition watercolour monogram looked. And sometimes I look at the neverfull and speedy b and think "I kind of get it...". I know LV has quality leather style bags too, but I haven't yet seen anything that I would put on my wishlist.

Popular contemporary brands
Rebecca Minkoff, Michael Kors, Tory Burch, Kate Spade, Coach

- Logos: Michael Kors and Tory Burch especially. The logo hardware is often so big and noticeable. Also I kind of think Michael Kors logo is a little lazily designed. The giant MK makes me say "mmmmkaaaaay?" in my head everytime I see it.

- Sales: I like to do my research and think a lot. I'm always seeing posts where people got deals. I can't do impulsive buying at outlets because I am guilty of liking things for sale prices. I would also be annoyed if a bag I bought later went on sale/to an outlet.

- Placeholder: I know what bags I eventually would like to save up and get. I'm not someone who can really share my affection (haha) for several bags that fall under one category (ex. day to day, going out) and rotate them. So, I know if I had a bag from one of these brands it'll just get used less and less. I haven't seen anything that has really caught my eye so far anyway (although I do have a fondness for Coach because I have some Coach accessories).

To put it more simply, in price, these brands are like a stepping stone between my current max price for bags (ex. Roots bags ~$250) and my wishlist bags. Unless I see something that doesn't feel like a placeholder bag, I'll skip these brands.
