Dealing with Others when Wearing Jewelry

It just amazes me what people say and comment on these days, but then again I guess I'm not that surprised.

I was at the car wash the other day and this lady was literally gawking at me up and down and I was getting so uncomfortable. Then when I left to go outside she came out and said I love your bag, is that the 10g bag everyone talks about then right after she said I love your jewelry too. I politely said thank you hoping that was going to be the end of it.

Of course, she went on to the big question, what does your husband do? I paused for a second and I said to her, YOU SURE YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHAT I DO???!!! Hahahaha. That shut her up!! :p

Savage.

How extremely nosey! And what possible use could that information be to her?

My thoughts too. Jssl gave a hilarious response though.

I tend to just give a blank look and repeat "I don't see how that's relevant" until they get tired. I want to avoid confirming their assumptions if it was given to me that I couldn't afford it on my own. On the other hand, if I say I bought it and they know I have an SO, it goes down a path of insinuating there's something wrong with my relationship because I'm not wearing jewelry he bought me.

Hmm I have found this thread interesting. More than not I get compliments/comments about my Hermes Clic Clacs. I have been wearing a love bracelet and ring with a Clic Clac and more times than not someone will ask if it's real....If it is someone being super obnoxious I give them a really confused look and go "what do you mean real?, Yes it is a real bracelet".

That is exactly how I feel when I wear my Hermes clic, everyone assumes it's fake basically because i'm 25 years old and my wardrobe consists in Tommy Hilfiger everything
Honestly I don't mind people assuming things but like other people have said I hate when I get asked the price of things

You are amazing! I wish I could come up with such a smart and sharp comeback!

There's this girl who rides the same train home as I do every day after work. I constantly catch her staring at my e-ring, my clothes, shoes, bags, what magazine I'm reading that day, etc. Super annoying. Last night I was standing there minding my own business on the train waiting for my stop and I notice her staring at my ring again, so I stare at her until we made eye contact and I just kept staring at her. Uncomfortable? Yeah, so stop eyeballing my sh*t.

Thing is, my ring isn't even that big. It's just bigger than hers :roflmfao:

GREAT answer! I'll adopt this, hope you don't mind?

I check out people's stuff all the time... Like if they are wearing cute shoes, why can't I look at their cute shoes?

Some people have no manners or knowledge of what's appropriate. I love to people watch. I do admire people's style, their clothes, shoes, purses & jewelry. And I will compliment them on an item that I particularly admire but I don't stare at them. I will say something like "I love your purse/shoes/hair style/ect" or "Your (insert whatever piece of jewelry here) is beautiful." I never inquire where they got it, who gave it to them, or how much it cost. That's none of my business. I just admire beautiful things.

Agreed. There's nothing wrong with admiring and in many ways it's a great compliment to the owner. But there's no need for personal comments or judgment.
