Especially since I have photos of t

I'd suspect the front flap, you can see in this photo how the texture of the leather looks different from the texture of the body under the flap. I also cleaned my bag when I first bought it with a microfiber cloth and black coloring rubbed off, which made me suspect it was painted, but not sure if it could've been dirtyness in the leather pores due to age. I would have interest in replacing the handle, but only if it would be worth getting way more for the bag than selling as is. For example I wouldn't see it as replacing the handle unless reselling it would cover the handle replacement charge and add extra resell value.
Suggest you get several estimates to see what kind of costs you are dealing with.

I'm done with realreal, too many times they sold items for WAY below what I would have sold them for. And, the last thing, I bought a bag, bought their new "insurance". Well, bag came, it was a small size, not medium as was listed. I had to jump through hoops to get them to take it back. Insurance was difficult, they won't tell you anything, they tried everything to tell me that I had misread it. Thankfully I took a screen shot of the listing, and put it next to a bag in the boutique that was the correct size and sent them a picture. They then stopped returning my emails, (there is no way to contact them of course). Finally realreal sent me a return label and a RMA. A week later insurance sent me an email, and said that they would take it back. Done.

THAT IS INSANE. I can't believe they tried to gaslight you! Thank god you had proof and insurance. The sad thing is also sold them a Chanel Trendy a few weeks ago and now I fear things are going to happen to this item too. At least with a purchase you can file a chargeback!

Thank you for your suggestion! I have reached out to TRR consignor conceirge and they have raised an internal request to look into the issue and provide their interpretation of compensation. I swear if they're going to come back with compensation as a "site discount" (of any amount) I will be pissed and only take to escalating things further as suggested. I reached out to Leather Surgeons for leather repair contacts (because their services don't look like they repair this kind of extent) and Purserehab for handle repair quotes to have TRR potentially compensate. I wonder if there'd be a good way to figuring out how much the resale value of the bag was prior vs now? Perhaps a 3rd party?

You are welcome & you may have to tell TRR what you want in terms of compensation.
TRR will likely offer you a site credit because it is easier & the concierge may have a limit as to what
they can offer before working their way up the chain of command & in a way they can still keep you
as a client, but of course that would have to be acceptable to you.
TRR damaged the bag.. TRR has to be accountable for that, so you need to be prepared for what
the cost of that repair would be & negotiate from there
By any chance did you reach out to Docride, as she may be able to guide you accordingly.
I don't know where you are located, but Deno's in (Highland Park) Dallas is highly regarded for repairs on H bags
so you may wind up having to contact several sources for estimates ..

I did reach out to Leather Surgeons and they just said the handle replacement would be almost 600. I did reach out to @docride on her separate thread! So hopefully I hear from her soon; still waiting to hear back from TRR conceirge, but will be bugging them incessantly every other day and BBB if this doesn't work. If anyone knows contact info for high-ups at TRR that'd be helpful.
I am located in the Midwest; I wish we had better resources like other states, but I can probably email them as well!

The CEO at TRR is John Koryl.
He should be informed as to how his team performed from start to finish in resolving your matter.

When I had an issue with TRR, I sent a certified letter, return receipt requested, to their legal department. That got their attention.

This was in 2021, so I’m not sure if the address is still valid. I pulled this address from Paragraph 19 of the original contract I signed to consign with them. If you have access to your contract, check it out.

Good luck!

I am extremely upset. I shipped the RealReal my vintage k28 for quote and after 2 MONTHS OF NOT HEARING ANYTHING they shipped my bag back today with the handle folded down 170 degrees, see the photo WTF. Because this is vintage the handle was already loose, and unpacking it it's even more damaged coming back than before. This tear in the handle wasn't even here previously. Not sure what to do because the bag was already hard to sell with a tear in the upper U of the handle, they've just damaged my property without regard, making it even harder for me to sell this. I bought this at a condition not even as described on VC and shouldve filed a credit card dispute all they offered was 200 off. 🤬 First 2 photos are current condition, everything after this was the original condition. All I wanted to do was sell this bag because Fashionphile wouldn't even take it. I even had a crazy thought of small claims court. Any suggestions for if I should get the handle remade? If so where? The original one is gone at this point and I wonder if having a new handle would help resale value at this point more than having the original broken handle. I would get the handle repaired if I was keeping it but I don't like the size.
Hey there, This is so disappointing, hugs.
I personally would not put in money to repair anything as expensive as a new handle . I’d sell it as is and get what you can and move on . Maybe wrap the handle with a bet wrap and a twilly on top wrapped in such a way as to secure the handle to the D rings and tack down the tearing area . I’d take photos of the handle before you wrap the handle . Sell the bag with the twilly so the bag is more functional and with full transparency. Either sell on your own or find a consignment shop . Hope this helps .

All the best ,docride

This is really helpful, thank you for this info! Any idea of where the contract can be accessed? I don't recall signing a contract to consign. What did you say in your certified letter? What was the issue?

Hi Docride, thanks for your advice. The twilly is how I've been carrying the handle before this point as well, the handle already had a crack and I forgot it was even there when it was under the twilly. Would the additional ~$600 leather surgeons is offering for handle replacement not make up for usability and resale value?
After this experience, I'm not sure if I'd want to consign again unless there is a very reputable small consigner I can trust to ship my items to, maybe with insurance. If you know any places that are reputable within the community, I'd consider it. Smh, just because TRR doesn't understand that just because it isn't their property doesn't mean they can throw things around.
If I were to resell it myself in this current condition, I don't know how much I could get? 😥

When I initially consigned with TRR, they sent me a Consignor agreement via email. I suggest you search your emails from The RealReal, which is how I just located mine again.

My problem was very different from yours. They had clearly lost a diamond ring I had consigned. The listing said “coming soon” for about a month, after it was listed for a week or so, and no one would provide me any information as to the status. Finally, I sent a certified letter to the legal department stating I wanted my ring returned, as provided for in the consignment contract. According to the contract, they had 30 days to return the item. They paid me the listed amount, less commission, which basically made me whole. But I had to force their hand. I’ll never consign with them again.

So sorry this happened. I've bought from them often and they also ship purchases that way -- I bought a K28 from them and it came wrapped in nothing, not even their fugly dustbag, it was just thrown into a box during winter (so rain on the box). They are horrible, no doubt. The fact that Fashionphile rejected it and TRR damaged it further, and it already had damage issues -- it's a sunk cost, lost value at this point. Don't invest in it further unless you do a (low cost) repair for yourself to keep it or have the courage to visit Hermes directly and have them repair it. Tbh I don't think an Hermes repair would increase its value or desirability to a buyer. Personally, I would just offload it for what you can and take the loss and lesson learned.

Send an email to the consignment team and ask that a Manager call you. I have had good luck with them responding. Why did they say they returned it? Do you have any pictures of it before you sent it to show the damage was done while they had it?

I am glad you go this resolved. They recently lost one of my items as well and I had to fight but I did get paid for it. I did successfully argued about why a commission was not appropriate and they saw reason. The latest with them is the time it takes for them to process a pre quoted item. Unfortunately, I dont have a lot of time to sell myself and we really dont have any good consignment shops where I live.
