Consigning/buying with The Real Real TRR

Send an email to the consignment team and ask that a Manager call you. I have had good luck with them responding. Why did they say they returned it? Do you have any pictures of it before you sent it to show the damage was done while they had it?
I attached photos in my original post of the before condition and the after condition I received. They now emailed me after reaching out to client relations and they're claiming this is the condition the item was received, which is why they rejected it and shipped it back, when that is clearly not the case because I packed it in bubble wrap intact and have before photos .

So sorry this happened. I've bought from them often and they also ship purchases that way -- I bought a K28 from them and it came wrapped in nothing, not even their fugly dustbag, it was just thrown into a box during winter (so rain on the box). They are horrible, no doubt. The fact that Fashionphile rejected it and TRR damaged it further, and it already had damage issues -- it's a sunk cost, lost value at this point. Don't invest in it further unless you do a (low cost) repair for yourself to keep it or have the courage to visit Hermes directly and have them repair it. Tbh I don't think an Hermes repair would increase its value or desirability to a buyer. Personally, I would just offload it for what you can and take the loss and lesson learned.

that is terrible. Ask for a supervisor to contact you related to this matter. they have a team of people who do that. IMHO you don't have anything to loose at this point. Just try it. Related to the condition I am not an expert at that but perhaps you can reach out to Leather Surgeons and they might be able to help you with repairs. They are fantastic and do wonderful work.

When I initially consigned with TRR, they sent me a Consignor agreement via email. I suggest you search your emails from The RealReal, which is how I just located mine again.

My problem was very different from yours. They had clearly lost a diamond ring I had consigned. The listing said “coming soon” for about a month, after it was listed for a week or so, and no one would provide me any information as to the status. Finally, I sent a certified letter to the legal department stating I wanted my ring returned, as provided for in the consignment contract. According to the contract, they had 30 days to return the item. They paid me the listed amount, less commission, which basically made me whole. But I had to force their hand. I’ll never consign with them again.
So, I looked into their website for their terms and they explicitly say in the consignment/sales agreement clause (a) -(i)\(ii)\(iv) that they should be compensating me because they damaged the item, but they're claiming it was already damaged when they received it so they won't be liable. I'm going to be emailing their conceige again with this info this time, and if they don't I will be reaching out to legal and the CEO

Legal address is actually the same except its now 4th floor.

I did reach out to Leather surgeons, they said it'd cost about 600 to fix the hande though not sure if they could give an estimate of the market value of the bag. Any idea of who would without additional costs?

I’m know I’m old school (and a retired attorney) but I like actual letters (rather than email) if you’re trying to escalate a claim. I’m also a fan of certified mail.

Not without additional costs but since Fashionphile declined it you could maybe reach out to them and ask why they didn't take it (I know you know but as a way to ask the next question and then ask if they could share with you how much it would be if the handle was fixed and would they be open to it then.

If you if could document the condition when you sent it like a picture with a date on it that would certainly help I would think. Im not a legal person I am just thinking.

As of last year FP won't take it if you don't have the Hermes receipt for repairs, so getting it fixed by a 3rd party won't work for a requote -- unless they've changed that policy. I submitted a Kelly and they asked for the Hermes receipt for any repairs and declined to quote if it had been fixed elsewhere or if I refused to provide the receipt. I decided to provide the H receipt and the quote went up less than the repair cost -- the fix was $500ish and they went up something like $300.

I was wondering how you thought of the legal stuff actually! So I'm very grateful for the tip
Though I think the mail may be the only way to get a hold of the legal dept

So that means that even if you try to consign something you got fixed, it's almost not even worth it to fix it because the resale value may not even be there. Consignment seems like such a shark when they're already taking 20-30% of earnings 🥲

Really I didnt know that. They actually used to refer to leather surgeons themselves. So I'm taking they don't do that anymore?

This is for Hermes. I think repairs to other brands (like via Leather Surgeons) are fine and will get quotes. H is a different thing when you're selling it to them and has stricter acceptance guidelines.

In the case of fashionphile since they do direct buy from what we’ve seen they list 50-60% above what they offered the owner.

That's a ridiculous markup! But I can see that especially with smaller Chanel bags 😥
I totally agree. They have built in a way to make a huge profit while paying small amounts for items compared to the listing. I understand they have to make a profit but that is insane. Some friends and I have kept track of some things we sold and then what they have been listed at. I also noticed it on a bag that I sent back to them for buy back. I am curious if any others here have done the same thing and see what they come up with.
