Comparing leather by Year and Season (best, worst, characteristics)

just got my shrug and am comparing it to my older day. very very different leather. as you can see, the cornflower shrug (on the left) is shinnier and thinner, while the sky blue day (right) is much thicker and matte.

Hello ladies!

I would like to know if there is any difference in the leather between Spring Summer collection and Fall Winter collection.
I am interested in buying the First bag but not sure if the leather comes differently in different seasons.
I prefer thinner or softer/smoother leather if such difference exist.

How about in previous years?
Was leather different in every season for the same model bag?
I mean when I check out some first bags from different season in different years on Real Deal Collection some of them seem to have more brownish black leather (I'm not sure if this is due to aging and usage and bronze worn out hardware) and others more solid black leather and darker hardware.

Leather has definitely changed over the years. For example, in 08, Bal stopped using Chevre (goatskin) for BBags, instead using Agneau (lambskin). The texture, distress factor, and thickness of leather can vary quite a bit. Leather from bag to bag can vary as well. For example, just because two Bbags are from the same season doesn't mean their leather will be the same. Some think it's consistent on Balenciaga's part, but I kind of like that there are no two exactly alike bbags. There are many existing threads discussing Bal leather, including:

i've been reading quite a lot of references to the "best" leather years for bbags being 06, but i seem some references to 05 as well. is it both years or just one (and which one)? also the black color seems to be a hot favourite, but if i were to look for a vintage 05 or 06, are all the bags from these years good, or for some reason is it just the black one?

Hey ladies,

I have just got an new black giant city with ggh and my friend has a green one from last year, maybe the year before. We've been comparing and my leathers is a bit less smooshy and looks a tiny bit smaller. Also my handles feel a bit harder, are these kind of diffrences normal or should I be worried about mine?

Leather and handles seem to soften with use. Sellers of used bags like to point out how their bag is so new that the handles are still stiff! Leather too, on brand new bags tends to be a bit stiffer, comparatively. Though usually a brand new bag looks larger...so that has me a bit stumped. None of it sounds worth worrying about though.

One of the best things about Bals, is they tend to get better with age! Enjoy! :okay:

Can someone clarify for me - when Balenciaga transitioned from Chevre to Agneau in 2008, were there any bags produced in 2007 using Agneau? Perhaps the F/W releases of 2007?

yes, i believe there were some agneau in 07.
