Comparing leather by Year and Season (best, worst, characteristics)

i'm probably about to gain a SS 06 black city, i was just wondering how the leathers are looking 2 years on .
anyone with any input/piccies ?

I was hoping to get some expertise on the current ('08) Black City before purchasing. I've seen many pictures of older Black Citys that look very shiny and smooth (which I like), but on the Balenciaga website, the leather looks much more dull and distressed. Is there an actual difference in the leather between the new bag and the older ones? or did the older ones look dull and distressed when new and only became shiny and smooth because of conditioning?

Also, should I purchase from Balenciaga's website or in the NYC Balenciaga store, is there a difference in quality?

Any advice you can shed would be helpful!

I recently bought an '08 F/W black city with RH from Bal LA, and my friend bought two black cities from Nordstrom. The one that I bought is a LOT darker than the ones that she bought. Her's are more veiny (you could see more white), and mine is jet black and more distressed (one of the better blacks of FW '08). Call Alex at Bal LA, there were 2 left last week, and they were both very black as well (one was very very distressed, the other was smoother). Good luck!

I told my friend to return her cities to Nordstrom because they looked greyish to me (because of the white veins).

I am looking for a black first or city, and my HG would be an '04, or '05, but they are hard to come by and priced as such.
If I were to commit to one of the more recent years, which would you recommend?

it totally depends on the bag... there are good and bad eggs in every season/year and it depends on your preferences

'06 looks dismal, but I'm still curious about '08.
