KDC, that VDE is beautiful! I know it was quite a search, so I'm glad you love it.

I have the oldie perspective on the leather issue, in that I think it was more consistently good, though never without variation, up through 2005. You could find bags that were smoother, with little distressing, if that was your taste, and the occasional super distressed one, too. By fall of 2005, a few thinner, much shinier, and even slightly veiny bags had shown up. I wasn't a fan overall of 2006, because of the veininess and dryness issues, though I've seen some great bags and have one. I just gave up and didn't search. 2007 was a major improvement, but the nice leather is a new kind of nice. I sometimes don't like the bags that are so thick they almost seem puffy, but that's a matter of personal taste. The best thing about 2007 was the return of a measure of consistency. There have been a lot of variations in the leather, from RH to GH, pre-season to season, but I felt pretty comfortable ordering and not fearing I'd get an awful bag. I don't mind having different kinds of leather. I think 2008 may take some effort and selection. I have 2 new bags, and both are really gorgeous, but totally different. My BG is sort of like a 2005 bag, but with a little more gloss. VT is more like a great 2007 bag, but again with a little different finish.

I've only seen my 2 and about 25 or so others IRL, but one 2008 difference seems to be in finish, and it seems to show more on the lighter colors. (?) They have a sort of glazey look that can make the distressing look crackly and dry, or almost veiny, when it isn't always. The Pale Magenta bags are the most extreme. So far, the ones I've seen IRL are too veiny for me, and not nearly as nice as ones I've seen posted. Oddly, when I actually handled a couple of them, including ones with GGH, they felt soft and smooshy and not at all how they appeared. I saw some white bags with GGH, and they looked pretty glossy and smooth, while the few black bags were pretty crackly looking, and not deep dark black because of that. I saw one beautiful Sahara city with SGH, and another just like it with dryer and veiny leather. So far, just based on the relatively few I've seen in person, I'd say mixed, but definitely not all bad!

I have a friend who lives to find really soft, veiny leather bags. She loves her VEINY ink, blue glacier and emerald bags and is ecstatic with all the '08 Magentas she can get, and maybe even a couple more '08's. I don't begrudge her a color here and there, I guess. It's her turn!

^wow, you got a bordeaux 05 this year??! congrats! but hey, you're a lil confusing in your post. the bordeaux is the only red you have, eh? so you're comparing the red with your 07 black, yes?

hi
i was comparing the bordeaux to my red rouge which i got this year too in june and to my black 2007 bb (in all i have 3 of the first).
Yep, i didnt evan know that i had a 2005, a very nice person( i had sold here my violet first) who told me about the purse forum when she saw the pics of my bordeaux told me about the authenticity card and explained it to me and then i confirmed with B in NY and they said it was possible to purchase a 2005 in 2007 (and confirmed that the store i purchased it from is a retailer ) (i am going on and on and on!!) sorry

Let's put it this way, I sold all my 05 bags (don't smack me ladies) because the 07 leather was so good and I wanted to upgrade. I have never regretted it and now 07 is my new HG. I understand there were some experiences with thick, dry leather in 07, but I didn't experience that at all...It's all personal taste really. I tried to love the 06 leather, but every single bag I tried was too veiny, thin and dry. Although, I love Ink a lot and I am still trying to find a good mint Ink bag...It's now been 18 months, I have never searched this hard for a bag ever!

Anyway, 07 is the best IMO...Here are pics of my Vert D'Eau Weekender because it has the best leather of my collection and any other Bbag I have owned...Next best leather for me was 07 Anthracite.

Wow - reading your post it really solidifies my theory that it is all about personal taste. I'm an 05 fan - so I cannot imagine liking the texture of the bag you posted more than the 05'ers.

To all those reading: These threads are interesting, but really are no help in aiding you in your quest for your favorite texture, leather, finish, etc - and really, they're almost counter-productive because you're letting our personal taste influence your preferences!!! Some people like matte bbags, some people like shine - so one who likes shine may say 06 had THE best-of-the-best leather, whereas someone who likes 04 bags would say 06 bags sucked. It's the eye of the beholder.

My point? No one can answer for you which leather YOU will like better, 07 or 08. These posts are so very personal and subjective to one's individual taste

One more thing...I'm sure this has been discussed before...

On the 2007 Fall cards - the textile says - Agneau or Lamb
while my 2008 cards say Cherve or Goat?

Clearly something is different between them. I do not have the card from my 05 or I could have compared too. Just my own 2 cents...

I've read a lot of posts about 05 leather and how it's really thick and "yummy." :shrugs: What does this mean? What's different about 05 leather? Is it much better than the leather of subsequent seasons??? I've seen pictures in the Clubhouse, but can someone describe it in more detail? Thanks!!

Oh Lord...you'll probably get a million responses why 05 leather is so appealing....it puddles, it is so thick and smooshy, silky and drapey, etc. Pics really speak volumes though, and probably the best photo I have ever seen that epitomizes the beauty of a 2005 bag is Cracker's Caramel Weekender....from the "05 Yummy Leather Club" thread. I never get tired of looking at this bag...

I currently have 2 05's, 2 07's and an 06. One of my 05's, a bordeaux first, was already very broken in, so it came to me very soft and literally a puddle of leather. However, it wasn't as thick as I expected/hoped. I recently acquired a mint 05 indigo day, and again the leather is so drapey, soft, smooshy...but again, not super thick. Definitely not thin, it has good thickness to it, but not super thick either. I'd say both my 07 bags have thicker leather. To compare, my 07s are more distressed/wrinkled, thicker, and slightly stiffer- but they've yet to break in. They're still smooshy and yummy, but not as drapey and silky as my 05s. Also, the 05s have "finer" more subtle distressing, while the 07s have more obvious wrinkles. I love both leathers equally- both my 07 bags have superb leather, and I don't know that my 05 is better. Just different. But maybe I've yet to experience really good 05 leather?

 took the words right out of my mouth, sunny07 :wlae::yahoo:

As for me, I've only got one 05 B-Bag and she's still got her new shine but theres just something about her when I hold her... softer maybe??? I had 3 06 bags, the leather was pretty awesome after it broken in, all floppy and outta control, i think the longer you use your b-bags the better the leather is :wlae: OH and I had an apple green twiggy - it came super pre-loved and HOLY CRAP CRAP the leather was so soft and silky like, it was such a pleasure to use that bag...

helen, totally agree about the leather getting better with age! You have a turq 05 first?? Have you posted pics? I've yet to see a turq in a first- and the first is my FAVE style EVER!! Sounds amazing!

Other thing about 05- I feel like it's more delicate than my 07s. Maybe it's just in my head, but because it's so soft and silky, I'm a little more afraid to use my indigo. (bordeaux is so broken in already, I'm not as worried about it)

imo, when you touch most of the 2005 leather, you can feel that it's really thick and smooshy ... so you feel like you wanna bite it (or maybe just only me):sweatdrop:
below are some pix. of my apple green which is from 2005, very yummy!!
the last pix is another yummy caramel 05 day (on the left) and camel 06 day (on the right)
camel 06 leather is thinner and harder than caramel 05 leather.
some part start to dry and crack

however i didn't mean that all 05 & 06 bags have to be like that.
some of the 06 bags have a very gorgy yummy leather too.
