Of all the 08 bags I saw and touched here in person (sky blue and vert thyme), none had really great leather, they were all dry, faded-looking and veiny, sorry to say. My 08 leathers are thick, smooshy, and glossy. I hope they will improve because I'm waiting for 08 turquoise!

:confused1: Dear did you mean ur 07s are thick, smooshy and glossy? I went to our local department store here and checked out the new collection yesterday, Vert Thyme, Magenta and BG, they were all quite veiny, and dry looking, but thick..most of my Bbags are 07 , I find the leather little too thin , I have one from 06, which is the smooshiest and thickest in my collection :smile1:

The leather seems to vary a lot depending on the color. I looked at the new 08 bags last week at Barneys and it seemed like sahara and BG had pretty nice leather but the magentas I saw all had terrible leather- really dry and veiny

OMG!!! I have a 2008 Magenta is on her way to me. Please don't tell me I will have to return it.

Sorry! Yeah, my 07 leathers were thick, smooshy and glossy, not like the dry and marbled 08 ones I saw :smile1:
My 05 ones are way better, 07 fall a close second.

MY BG City has gorgeous, thick leather but mine was from the first shipment that came in and there were lots of bags for her to choose from. I may not get any more from this season because I'm really not liking the look of most of the leather. It is reminding me of Spring '06, too dry, too veiny, not a leather I'm that fond of. 2007 did have great leather but it also had the fading black bag issue. Also, some of the early 2007 bags were super thick and smooth but noticeably heavier which I didn't like. Some were too smooth. I like some veins, but I like the veins to be uniform, not veiny on the back of the bag, smooth on the front.

However, let me say this.... moisturizer can work miracles on dry leather. I got Dolma on Ebay. It was super cheap because it has a couple of small stains, one on the bottom and a teeny one on the front, barely noticeable, but the bag was in great shape.
It looked very pale so I figured it had faded but Dolma has that look anyway. When I got it, I loved the frosty green look but it was really very dry. I was going to leave it as s because I liked the color but I was afraid it would scratch and the corners would wear because it was so dry. In fact it was so dry it almost looked like the dye might flake off.

I gave it 3 coats of Apple conditioner and it transformed the bag. It was almost back to the original Dolma color and the bag looked 100% better. It also removed a lot of surface dirt. I didn't want to clean it first because it was so dry, I was afraid it would lift the color and leave it lighter.

So if you see a 2008 that has thick leather, not a lot of marbling or veins, you can change the look by moisturizing it. Many girls here did that with 2006 bags. My ink was super dry and I moisturized it 3 times for 2 months and it was gorgeous after that. Granted it wasn't as thick as other years but it was gorgeous and had a slinky feel to it.
I am a firm believer that dry is bad! That's when they scratch easily, the corners scuff, stains can penetrate easily, etc.

i think it's an individual bag thing. i've felt o7 leathers that were great, some that are terrible and some o6's (that were known for not being so great) that were nicer than any of the o7's i felt at the store.

i have a 2007 and a 2005 bordeaux (which i was able to get this year from saks) and the bordeaux is so much better than my red one, and i just got the 2007 first in black i am so happy that i didnt get the 08 now!!!
( i am a newbie on the TPF and i really appreciate all the advice i can get)

^wow, you got a bordeaux 05 this year??! congrats! but hey, you're a lil confusing in your post. the bordeaux is the only red you have, eh? so you're comparing the red with your 07 black, yes?

Let's put it this way, I sold all my 05 bags (don't smack me ladies) because the 07 leather was so good and I wanted to upgrade. I have never regretted it and now 07 is my new HG. I understand there were some experiences with thick, dry leather in 07, but I didn't experience that at all...It's all personal taste really. I tried to love the 06 leather, but every single bag I tried was too veiny, thin and dry. Although, I love Ink a lot and I am still trying to find a good mint Ink bag...It's now been 18 months, I have never searched this hard for a bag ever!

Anyway, 07 is the best IMO...Here are pics of my Vert D'Eau Weekender because it has the best leather of my collection and any other Bbag I have owned...Next best leather for me was 07 Anthracite.

ITA! You need to just check out the leather on the bag you're buying. Also, I think the color of the bag matters. My 07 Black city has amazing leather. And I had a 06 Truffle that was great too and that color/year is not known to have the best leather. I have to agree that alot of the 08 magenta looks quite dry.

Just hijacking... KDC that is scrumptious leather on your Vert D'eau. Looks soft silky thick but not too veiny. I want a bag like that too!
