Comparing leather by Year and Season (best, worst, characteristics)

So far, nothing can beat my 04 thick, soft and chewy Seafoam..not even 05

I had an 05 Dolma and the leather was thick and fluffy. Much thicker than any other bbag I ever had - it wasn't any heavier but the leather felt more substantial - SO soft. My 04s were almost as soft but silkier, not as thick.

I agree that 04 is the best!! I have an 04 eggplant WE and she has the softest most beautifulk leather EVER!! I dont own 06 or 07 or 08 (yet!) as I didnt like the leathers of 06 or 07 for sure. I do own an 05 and that also has lovely leather but not as smooth as my 04.

Hmmm, interesting! Does anyone who has an 04 Bal bag, could they tell me if on the silver plaque, the number ones are printed like this '1' but without the base (ie with the sloping top)??The one I am stalking has ones like this and not like just a straight line one like they are now. If I can get pictures that I can post I will....!

right im here both my 04 and 05 WE have just the straight down ones, no sloping tops. Sorry! They are both definately genuine. Not sure if they varied on say earlier ones maybe? Does the 04 have pewter hardware?

That's fake..
The font does not look rite plus there should be underscore between 'Balenciaga" and 'Paris'..

The font is different on the 04 bags with pewter, not that I'm saying this tag looks correct. No good shot of the bales in this auction though, which is always a dead give away.

04 leather is the best, hands down, A bit thinner than the 07, but super strong and silky. No veins, it doesn't look artificially distressed like later years (S/S 05 excluded), but natural. Doesn't need to break in, cause it's already perfect.

Do you know in what way the font is different Sunspark? How could I find out? I have asked seller for more pics but she's a bit slow with them (hmmm) but I think it must be a fake, the silver tag does look a bit off...

Between an used 2004 and new 2007, I'd go for new 2007 BBag. Yes, 2004 leather is thick and smooshy, but 2007 leather is distressed and has a lot of characters. However, if they are in the same condition, I'd go for 2004.
