For me, it has to be 2004. The leather was fantastic for the entire year and the colors were ones I love -- too many of them. I love a lot of 2005 bags and colors, too, but the overall quality assurance as to the leather began to fall off in the fall. The colors were fantastic, though, so if you got a great leather bag, it was as great as any, ever.

Most of my collection consists of pieces from 04FW and prior, and 03(both SS and FW) are my fav' by far.
The leather is soft, squishy, pillowy, and thick, and the colors are just simply divine. I love all the 03 colors, and I have a few.
But I wish I had bought all of the colors back in 03 when they were available at BalNY!!!!!!!!!

Well put, to me 2004 and prior had the best leathers. S/S 05, also had great quality leather after that well, in my opinion not so much.
I have bags from every season now, and in comparing the leather on all of the bags, my 2003 mastic flat hobo is the absolute best leather.

I thought I'd ask the experts here... any difference between the S/S 07 and the A/W 07/08 leathers? I'm looking at black... I know, I know.. how blah... anyway, just wanted to find out. Thanks!

I bought Bbags in early 2007 and was thrilled with the difference between '07 and some of the '06 bags. '07 was much better. My recent autumn purchase (a violet RH City) has good leather but it's not outstanding. It's a question of luck really. However, some of the autumn bags seen on here look amazing.
I would advise that, if you're able to, always go and pick your purchase yourself. If not, ask lots of questions about the leather and just go for it. You won't be disappointed with '07 leather and black always looks wonderful. Good luck!

Lizzie... thanks! I appreciate your advice. This bag in particular isn't available for me to purchase in person.. .heck, i've been lucky with all my bbags to have had a good SA choose them.
lol. Anyway, I'm going to just let them choose the best leather... I have the aqua S/S and I personally like the leather better than my violet F/W (less veiny)....but I really think it all comes down to the individual bag!!
But...definetly '07 is better than '06 by far! '06 scared me away from Balenciaga...but '07 has lured me back in!

I think with most seasons its a matter of picking the right one, yes 2006 leathers at their best were substandard to other years but some leathers like my blueberry courier's were smooshy and thick just like that of 07. Some people have complained about the 07 leathers being papery and dry so it all depends on the individual bag and if you pick the leather you want or not.
The leather on my S/S 07 Black city is much thinner and smooth, while the leather on my A/W 07 Ocean city is thick and much more distressed. I really love both of the bags, and I think that the differences add to the beauty and the character of these bags.
I have to say that I am in love with A/W 07 leather! I had a choice between two black Briefs, one from S/S and one from A/W - the A/W won hands down! I also have a Plomb City and the leather on that is amazingly thick and evenly distressed.
Thanks Guys! I just let the people at Diabro choose a good one for me. I know, I know... thats a toss up, but I'm not going to stress myself over getting a particular season... lol.
