i see nothing wrong if bf or husband buy designer's handbag for girls. it doesnt meant that girls cant afford it. :p

moreover, if the girl cant afford it herself, parents and bf work hard to pay for them, and they try to make their love one happy. isint that great?
i have a fren that owns a lot of designer handbags, and is all from her parents. i feel happy for them. not like their parents go to the bank to borrow money for those bags, they just have the money, y their child cant enjoy together?

i observed that some ladies feel better if we highschool/uni student work hard to pay for our bags, and unhappy about "jobless-girls with rich parents/ bf buying them designer's handbags". thinking that they shouldnt enjoy designer handbags because they did not work for it

my question is: if someone is married, jobless, lazy at home and the rich husband get some maids for her, does she deserve designer handbag? or she should work hard at home as a housewife to earn the handbag from her husband?

as long as someone paid for the bill, we should be happy for them. :D

no offend, just my own opinion... ;)

So true, I was also wondering what people think is wrong about being gifted bags, etc. I am not saying this because mine have been gifts, no I bought them all for myself with my own money and yes I can say that is what feels best when you worked hard to earn those bags you love but that said noone should feel guilty if they are gifted. They should feel loved instead. If you are gifted expensive things, it does not mean you are a brat and you do not deserve it, I would be happy for that person that someone feels they are so special. And no I am not a college students and has never been gifted a designer bag, my bag addiction is pretty recent.

^^ I agree with you - everyone should be allowed to enjoy their bags, whether they've bought them with their own money or not. I must add though that I enjoy bags I've bought myself more than the ones I've been given because I usually tend to think more about the bags I buy myself; these are thus naturally more suitable for me

I'm a full-time student and I work extremely hard for my bags and they all come out of my own money from my part-time job. I get very angry when people see someone in their early 20's and judge them thinking that someone else must have bought that bag for them and how there is no way they can afford the bag on their own.

I am very responsible and when I want something, I will work hard for it until it's mine because nothing can beat the satisfaction of paying for a luxury item all by yourself!

I totally agree! I am lucky enough to have a scholarship from my university, and my parents assist with my accommodation costs, but if I want anything extra, I have to work hard to earn it. I have a part-time job and work quite a few hours a week in addition to the time I spend on my studies. I have three Chloe bags, and I paid for each one with my own money. I don't like to spend my money on disposable things, nor do I spend oodles on alcohol and going on like many people my age do.

I know some people seem to think it's inappropriate for a student to own high end bags, but I think of them as a better investment of my finances than a whole bunch of cheap, poor quality items. I worked hard and didn't spend much the first few years of my degree, so now that I've got savings behind me, I think it's my right to use some of my income on beautiful, good quality things!

I'm in my third year of college and my collection consist of LV's, Gucci's, longchamps, Burberry, juicy, Rebecca minkoff, Michael kors, coach, Tory burch, MBMJ, Tokidoki, and a few others I can't remember off the top of my head. I started collecting at 14, purchased my first coach bag with money saved from chinese new year, birthday, and other occasions. But after that I started working and didn't really start a real collection till I hit 16 with my first legit parttime job. Most of thr pieces, I would say about 90% were purchased with my own money earned from work and the other 10% were gifts from family members and the loving BF. I appreciate all my bags equallly and heavily rotate them so they each get a good number of usage. I don't find myself any less satisfying or less appreciative towards the bags that were gifted to me. In fact, I feel that I apprecaite them even more, because they're gifts from the love ones and they're very valuable to me no matter the cost. I don't see why it is such an issue here, I genuinely love all my bags.

My most expensive bags are my Gucci Boston and Givenchy I've been saving for a Marc Jacobs bag this month. I'm a senior in college (21 yrs old) and I work a full time job as a helicopter dispatcher so yes, I have extra money! I also do lots of freelance writing for extra cash. In addition to my Gucci and Givenchy I have Coach, Dooney & Bourke, Badgley, and Badgley Mischka. Lots of girls at school have FAKE bags but they will swear they're real. I'm like Gucci is a double G not triple! Hope this helps, and btw I don't find your question offensive at all. I totally understand you inquisitiveness!

I know LOL! I see tons of fake LV neverfulls in college...sigh...

Anyway, I do work (for Dell) for all the money I spend and I LOVE buying new bags. My parents don't pay for my obsessions :) (LV, Burberry, Coach, Juicy, D&B) but they support me because I'm responsible in what I do. A friend once said she wished she had parents like mine so she could just go out and get whatever she wanted. And I was like, I pay for my things. She gave me a look that said "ooookkaaayyy." She always acts like I'm some privileged spoiled brat even though she knows I have a job. It's so irritating! Ughhh

I have a Coach satchel, LeSportSac Tokidoki messenger, LV denim pleaty, Burberry tote, LV Speedy, Miu Miu bow satchel, 2 Longchamp totes, and a few designer accessories.

I am financially dependent on my parents.

I don't really plan out my purchases. The first 3 are from my high school years (I'm in college now) & hope to sell them to fund future purchases -- my mom thinks it's a great idea. Now that I am older, I usually think out a purchase decision thoroughly to make sure I REALLY love the bag before I consider asking my mom. I know that I am so incredibly lucky to have my parents be able to give me what I ask for.

I do not plan on getting a job after graduation to help pay for my love of bags because that will be going toward paying off my tuition!! I probably wouldn't be able to afford the bags I'd like for a couple of years anyways on my own. And I'm okay with that.

I'm a college student (will graduate in May!) but I am slightly unconventional, I started work at 18, but stopped going to college until I was 21, so I worked full time, which is how I afforded my bags. I think all of them have been purchased by me except for 3, 1 of which will be a Chistmas gift from my boyfriend this year. He purchased another purse for me last year for Christmas, and my mom got me one this year for Christmas since it was a great deal and I've been eye the bag for awhile. I'm 24 now and haven't worked in basically 2 years, so the few bags I've purchased recently have been with money I had saved up from when I was working.

Collection includes:
-1 Juicy
-1 Lucky Brand Bag (a gift from my mom for Christmas this year)
-A leather Sak bag
-4 Dooneys (1 from the b/f)
-5 Coach
-4 Longchamps
-2 MBMJ's
-1 Marc Jacobs
-1 Linea Pelle
-1 Burberry
-1 Junior Drake (this will be my Christmas gift this year from my b/f )

And then there are a couple of no-named ones that I got last year in Italy and Spain. most of my collection has been purchased by chance though, my parents house is very close to an outlet mall that has a Nordstrom Rack and an off 5th, and I've spent a lot of time at other outlets/discount stores (ie: Lohemanns!) I think only two of my purchases were actually planned, everything else was spur of the moment, since the bag was nice, I liked it and I wanted it. When I was starting school again at 21, I lived at home, and am fortunate enough to have my parents pay for my expenses while I'm away at school at the moment also, which helped me to afford my bags when I was working. I think it's very easy for 20-somethings to own expensive bags, we typically live at home with minimal expenses and a large disposable income since we put only a small fraction of what we make away in savings (or at least I know I did lol). That's not meant to be a blanket statement, but it is, by and large, fairly truthful. I know if I made $400 in a pay period, I'd save about 1/4th of it. I, clearly, could have saved a lot more, but I didn't want to. I don't regret those decisions, I was young and it's what being 18 is about. I did go into debt (not just over bags), but I quickly got my act together and paid it all off within 6-8 months when I decided that I was sick of owing money to my CC. I think that for being 18-21, I didn't do too bad :p

All my previous bags were gifts from my parents and relatives, I'd never bought myself a designer bag with my own cash until now. However, neither of my parents have any eye for bags, which I don't really fault them for, but I would rather they save their money for other things. What my parents did give me a lot of throughout the years was jewellery, and that's fine by me as they are still good assets that won't depreciate over time.

I also started my own business online, which ran for only a short time, but during which I made myself a nice little nest egg. This was without a degree or capital, and my parents were kind of proud of that.

My dad spends money like water, though my parents both have very good incomes. This has made me very thrifty, and I will only occasionally go on a buying spree every few years. Before my big bag spree this holiday (during which I acquired a Botkier plus a lot of others) I had only bought myself a Coach Hamptons tote off Ebay in a rare colour, and I'm still kicking myself for letting it get stained. I do spend a bit during my sprees (averaging about 1k, max 2k usd) but as I go years before another shopping binge, I think it's all right.

Well I have a modest collection
1 Louis Vuitton Alma & long wallet
2 (vintage)PRADA backpack
3 (vintage)Dooney and Burke wallet & Purse
4 (vintage)Furla
5 custom leather Colombian bags

everything but the alma where bags that my mother previously had collected and I just inherited from her. So technically I've only started my collection with my alma last year. I had a job when I bought her but since I transferred universities I haven't been able to shop around. But I'm in love with Rebecca Minkoff and luckily I have a job interview soon. Plus I have no problem going to ebay for a good deal. Honesty all my favorite bag alway seem to be in the price range no higher than $500 so I'm good for now.

HI,
I'm in my senior year at my university. I've always been a collector of pocket books since I was a little girl, however, it wasn't until Spring of 2008 when I began buying designer bags. I have two Michael Kors which were my first designer bags and I bought them myself. But I slowed down severely and concentrated on designer shoes, which is my second love. 2010 is a big handbag year for me. I renewed my obsession with buying a Bill Blass and Hype bag in January and never looked back. Except for three of my Dooney's, one my mom gave me and two she bought me as gifts. All of my bags have been bought by me, using everything I have in my piggy bank, lol.

I own:
2 Micheal Kors (one dome in luggage and one signature/brown leather-can't remember style names)
5 Dooney Bourke - a Palamino Luna (a gift-I call her Luna Lovegood), a graffiti tassels bag (gift), vintage creme/brown doctor bag (inherited), and a gorgeous leather/fabric bag with medallions on the end of each handle(I don't know the style name), and Mustard trim/zebra juliette bag
2 Bill Blass- Fuchsia Henry Senior and Red Ombre Matthew
2 Deux Lux- a blue studded drawstring, and metallic pink eyelet hobo
1 Steve Madden- StudMuffin in raspberry
2 LongChamps - large le pliage in pink, small le pliage in purple, both with long handles
3 Rebecca Minkoffs - Aquamarine Eyelet MAM, Purple Tie-dye Darling, Washed Silver Devote
1 Alexander Wang Mesh Rocco with Black studs (wear it ALL the time)
1 Treesje Asher Grande (most recent purchase)

+ several of non-designer handbags that I still love from the "old" days (only a few yrs back)

I will be in school forever though, since I am a professional student and don't want to grow up! I'll get as many degrees as needed not to live in the real world for a long time. lol I will definitely have a career that feeds my addiction to the fullest. In the meantime, campus jobs seem to be doing the trick, and sometimes throwing in my rent money helps too. Gotta stop that though.

I'm in my final year of college and I pay for my bags myself. The only time I get bags from other people (ie: mom) is for either my birthday or Christmas.

I still live with mom so I don't have the expenses that I would have if I were living on my own. The only finances I have is to pay for car insurance and gas. I pay for everything myself. I know once I move out and live on my own having the leisure of buying bags will come to a halt, but for now, I'm enjoying it while I can.

Also, I believe if people can afford to give their family and friends nice gifts, then go for it! Just because a young person is walking around with high end designer things doesn't automatically make them spoiled. It just means they are fortunate enough to either be able to afford it themselves or have loved ones who enjoy giving them luxurious things. I believe attitude is everything. If you are walking around with high end items and act like a brat, then yes, you're spoiled, but if you are modest and just enjoy what you have, all the power to you!

I'm in University, graduating next year. I currently have
-LV Mono Neverfull MM
-LV Red Epi Petite Noe
-Burberry Tote
-Chanel Black Lambskin Double Flap M/L
-Gucci wallet
-Dior wallet
and deciding whether I'll get Balenciaga or Miu miu next :p

I worked hard (part time) last year but I wouldn't say I paid all the bags by myself. Major is contributed by my lovely parents.
