I can't offer much eBay advice but I can offer validation - I'd be PO'd if I received that bag! I remember looking at this listing when you posted it on the AT, thinking it was a good learning opportunity for spotting telltale signs of weird polishes/finishes. I didn't see the issues your pics show, either. Hopefully others with more eBay experience will give advice.
Thanks, Ravvie99. I looked at the seller photos really carefully, but it just wasn't obvious until I had the bag in hand.

I'm so sorry. I really thought it hadn't been painted. You should have no trouble winning an Ebay SNAD return request.
Not your fault! You cannot tell from those photos. I have looked at them again now that I know the bag is painted and it is still not clear from the seller photos. Plus, the real tell us how rubbery the bag feels. And nothing in the seller description mentions anything about refinishing.

Can you post a link to the auction? Unless those damages were shown in her original pics I think you would have a great case to request a SNAD case.
Thanks, I was hoping she would just let me return it without going to all the hassle, but I think I will have to request a case. Such a pity because I had other bags authenticated and I chose this one to bid on instead. If I keep it within Canada I don't take such a bath on duty and shipping. Now I will be out lots of shipping and have no bag...

I have had the same thing happen to me. In my case the seller refunded me in full and let me keep the bag. The bag I had bought had been dyed really badly and unevenly and you couldn't tell in the photos. It was vintage so I thought maybe had faded a little unevenly. Anyway, since she let me keep it I tried to get the dye out of it and the bag basically fell apart. It really was a wreck. I still have it to strip for parts and test paint on and stuff.

I am really getting so tired of buying things on ebay that arrive with something so wrong with them that wasn't mentioned in the listing. I've had more than one broken zipper, fakes, broken kisslocks, things with holes on corners that weren't shown, shoe polish jobs.. and the list goes on! Lately I've been buying vintage bags at my local Goodwill boutique store instead. At least I can study them in person before paying sometimes only slightly more that ebay, sometimes even less.

That's an interesting idea. On my father's recommendation, I have used Murphy's Oil Soap on my leather furniture and it works well.

I've cleaned my Natuzzi leather furniture and my leather car seats with Murphy's Oil Soap for years with no ill effects. I don't use as much as I would to mop my tile floors. I do come back with a microfiber towel afterward.

But I've not used to to bathe my handbags. I reach for the Dawn liquid...works for me.

Your shipping will be refunded too. It's actually the seller who ends up losing out as they should, for not giving enough/correct details. I would just go ahead and open a case right away.

I don't know if I should be posting this here or in the vintage coach thread, but I picked this hippie flap bag up the other day. It has some weird damage on the trim that kinda makes me think the edges aren't leather. It's kind of peeling black off a white background. I'm wondering if I can repair it with edge kote. It got a little more cracked in the wash too. On the upside I got the verdigris on the straps off easily with some vinegar and backing soda applied prior to the bath

I have a happy eBay story to report. I had a black XL duffle sac authenticated last week, Hyacinth authenticated it and dated it between 1989 and 1993. I put in an offer which was accepted. It came today and it is TDF. It looks as if it has never been used. The leather is just so buttery soft and drapes beautifully. No marks, the strap is in perfect condition. It was not inexpensive, but to me, worth the extra cost. There is no comparison between this bag and the broken rivet, resewn bottom, XL duffle bag returned and for which I have filed a SNAD case on Etsy.
I have been shopping on eBay for years and have had less than a handful of bad transactions. As someone earlier asked, I think there are honest sellers on eBay you just have to be careful and use the wisdom of the great members of this forum!

Hi, I haven't posted here before (just a lurker), but I recently bought this Bleecker 9301 that I want to clean up a little bit, and I'm wondering if it is safe to give the light leather a bath, or if I should just try leather conditioner. I was also wondering about product to use - I bought a natural vegetable tanned leather bag from a leather shop in London, and they recommended that I use Renapur Leather Balsam to keep it in good shape and maintain the patina. I was thinking I would use the Renapur on this Coach bag as well, but didn't know if anyone had any experiences with it or would warn against it for any reason. Advice is appreciated - thanks!

I've washed this bag and this color before so I would recommend it. I've never heard of that leather conditioner before, but they have different products across the pond than we do. It sounds similar to other products I've used, and has great reviews on Amazon. I know I've used products with beeswax before. My only concern is that it is a wax, which is something I use more for a final coat, rather than for initial moisturizing. If the leather is really dry, I would prefer to use a straight moisturizing product first, but if the leather is soft and supple, you can probably get away with just using Renapur.

Thank you! That is good to know. The leather is still pretty supple, just feels a bit thirsty, so I'm thinking it should be fine.

I'm pretty new to the Coach rehab game.. so far I've only rehabbed mahogany, navy and black bags. Next in my pile is this two-tone vintage beauty who needs a lot of work. Besides general marks/staining throughout, there is a break in the strap that I did not notice when I initially purchased the bag. My current plan is to dunk her, apply apple conditioner, and finish with Blackrocks. I honestly do not know what to do about the break in the strap. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Hey all you rehabbers ... does anyone have suggestions on how to restore the silver to these handles? Is metallic paint the best option? I thought I had read somewhere about a powder mixed with conditioner but of course I can't find the post. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!
