Hey all you rehabbers ... does anyone have suggestions on how to restore the silver to these handles? Is metallic paint the best option? I thought I had read somewhere about a powder mixed with conditioner but of course I can't find the post. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I've had good luck several times mixing Jacquard's Pearl Ex Powdered Pigment with CPR: https://forum.purseblog.com/index.php?posts/30600493/

I strongly recommend mixing it with a conditioner that will absorb quickly and easily into the leather, since I had rub off when I tried mixing with BR. Maybe I didn't let it cure long enough, though.
I haven't yet tried it on an area as large and heavily touched as your handles, so you'll be breaking new ground! Good luck [emoji846]

Two destroyed girls. One is in dire need of new piping, but I am going to try puffy paint. Despite her dire condition, i couldn't pass her up. I see very few large plaza bags.

Oh thank you Ravvie99 .... that was the exact post I remembered seeing!

I'm wondering if after painting it if I shouldn't put resolene or something on it to seal it. I'm going to go check Amazon and see if they have them. You never know if something is going to work until you try so we will see what happens

I've gotten the pigments at Joanns and at Dick Blick if Amazon doesn't have it.
I almost suggested resolene! You might be ok without it but it'd probably give you peace of mind.

Any suggestions on how to fix this? Do you think Coach would accept this for repair?

Coach won't repair that. The style is too old. I believe it will be pretty expensive to repair. In order to do it correctly, the entire piece of leather would have to be replaced. It would be difficult to match the color, and the hardware would have to be removed and reinstalled.

What do y'all do to fix this kind of damage? The duel end is kind of chewed up looking. Like a cat got to it. I kind of don't want to return it (Barclay tote) since I got for less than $50. View attachment 3667215
You could build it up with leather cement and/or puff paint, then paint to match with something that matches the texture of leather, like Leather refinisher.

I have a similar problem with a drawstring bag where it looks like a dog or cat chewed on the leather bit that holds the two straps together. So far I have done nothing about it, but I might try filling the holes with some acrylic filler and then paint over it. I'm not that concerned about it though, as it's not in a very obvious spot. I've used the bag as it is and it didn't bother me.

I think yours might look better after a wash, then you could either just paint it to make it less noticeable or do as whateve suggested.
