I've used mink oil several times. It works fine. I usually only use it on very dry bags that need something more than my standard conditioners. What do y'all think of mink oil for conditioning glove tanned leather.. Yes or no? I havent used anything yet.I'm so scared I'm gonna mess it up..[emoji26]
Hello,
New here.
Does anyone know the best way to restore faded black (faded to gray) to a richer more black - black with glove tanned leather?
I am afraid of washing even an unlined bag because I did once and the original dye came out and left large discolored spots (used only a tad of Ivory dish soap).
I also would like to know if washing suede will ruin its softness and stiffen it to where it is matted and scratchy. I have a gramercy bag ordered with big stains on the inside suede and faded black outside leather. So I guess I also need to know what will restore color to embossed etched leather such as on the Gramercys too.
Also any advice where to buy good leather conditioners, and are they really alright to use on old chromed Coach glove leather? I know to avoid silicone based anything and have read about the Apple, Lexol, Blackrock and CPR (?) here but don't know where to buy them.
Would love to hear anyone's experience and expertise in these matters. Thanks!
I've never seen motorcycle leather cpr. I've seen horse cpr in a tube. It might be similar. The one I use is this: https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/st...AkFJ5vJDElBROxWwf-STm9i-kbnNjcsRn6RoCk7Lw_wcBNewbie again. Found old threads about Black Rock Leather -n- Rich being the best for dark faded bags. Found some on Amazon but some descriptions state cleaner and conditioner, and one just conditioner, so don't know which one and wonder how it will work on unwashed black bag.
Also found Motorcycle leather CPR in a tube. The right stuff?
If you brush or very lightly sand the suede, it will stay soft.Thank you thank you, ladies, especially for the addresses to get this stuff.. Wow, that is some gramercy, it looks rich and black like I want. Hope I get good results too if my bag is not completely shot (my ordered bag is not as pretty, but I NEED it). May I ask if the suede lining stays pretty soft after washing?
I cannot believe the results on that gramercy, wow. Leather looks great and suede looks nice and
velvet-y still, That's what I want!
I rehabbed a faded and stained gramercy. I didn't dunk. I don't usually on structured bags. I pulled out the suede lining and washed it, using acetone on ink and Lincoln EZ cleaner, also lightly sanding. For the exterior I filled deep scratches with leather cement. I mixed Lexol conditioner with a tiny amount of Wood n Stuff Leather Refinisher (you only need a sample size bottle) and applied that all over the bag. For the final step I used Blackrocks Leather n Rich. EMERGENCY HELP NEEDED!
Kind ladies please help, I dunked a vintage cream colored bag with brown trim and strap, just to reshape it and try to clean a very small stain. I was very careful placing in the water, so none of the brown would be touching the cream just in case. When I took it out I noticed that a part of the bottom had folded in and now I have a line of brown on the bottom that is cream. Any way to repair the mess? I am so upset! Thanks
I forgot to mention that it is not lined.

I'm not sure....my out loud hypothesis would be to use saddle soap on the area to decrease the line of demarcation where the dye has bled.
Ugh - so frustrating!
I clean all my bags with straight white vinegar - maybe try that? I wouldn't scrub too hard on the white, though.
Just yesterday I was reading an archived post by two.time.bags, who'd left a wet strap drying on the suede side of a flap and it made a mark. But now I can't find the post! I think she used acetone but I'd definitely save that as a last resort.
