That is funny. Maybe it has something to do with the humidity in our area? I live in a very dry area. I know some people have great results with Leather Therapy. I've never liked anything it has done for me. I can't understand why it is so different for me.

I think your theory about the humidity is a good one. I live where it is hot and humid in the summer and drier and cooler in the winter. I think bags rehab differently in the summer compared to the winter. In the summer, it seems like it takes bags forever to completely dry out after a bath, and the conditioner absorbs much more slowly than it does in the winter. In the winter, I usually have to do at least one or more extra rounds of conditioning. I can see why Leather Therapy may not be as good of a product in a dry climate.

Hello all! I'm new here, but I've always been a big Coach lover

I recently purchased a 9927 Willis bag (made in 2000) off of ebay and am looking to restore it. It actually came in much better condition that I anticipated, and now I'm unsure if I need to wash it. I've never tried restoring any leather bags before, let alone wash them, so I'm bit afraid of ruining it. The inside is surprisingly clean minus one negligible pen mark, the outside has some light scratches, and the bag is soft and has lost its original shape so it's quite flat. So my main questions/concerns:
  • Should I wash the bag? Or should I leave it alone? It will be conditioned whether or not the bag is washed.
  • How can I restore the bag back to its original shape?

That bag is great! I'm new here and getting ready to do some rehab on a few great bags I've found over the years....still looking for one of these beauties!

Ladies I need your help...
I got a bag with some very resistant ink marks on blue sateen liner, they are ink from pen, marker, gel pen... they are black and the lines are in the thick side.
Thanks to you and all your wonderful advice, I went through my list of cleaners that have worked like a charm before, but not this time...:confused1:

First I tried alcohol and pure acetone, not much change so then...
Wisk detergent
Soilove
LA's Totally Awesome'
Shout advanced gel
Spray n Wash Max
And still nothing... did I miss any of your suggested products, anything else I could try. I have no clue how long those stains have been there, I got the bag from Ebay and yes I knew they were there, but before I always could get them out as I mentioned. Help!!! TIA

Maybe something was used on them that set in the stains. Usually ink comes out of fabric. I saw a new ink remover on Amazon the other day that I was thinking about trying. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00493LSW...TF8&colid=11L9P2UH9N1KG&coliid=I33BLCMXJQEMDH
I've also had some success with Amodex but they warn it doesn't work well if you've already tried to clean it with other products.
I've used this cleaner on my carpets and it works great. I don't think I've ever tried it on a purse: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005LD2BA...TF8&colid=11L9P2UH9N1KG&coliid=I1R3JUAZQDF9CL

I was going to purchase that ink remover myself, I just purchased a dooney with an ugly ink mark and I swore I could get it off with this fantastic cleaner I use on everything, called Krud Kutter. KrudKutter is amazing, and it doesnt smell which is awesome, but I think they tried different methods on that ink spot, and that stain is set. I'm hesitant to get the InkBgone, cos its got really mixed reviews, I think I'm going to try whateve's method of mixing a bit of paint with leather conditioner, since its an AWL bag. And it's ivory colored. I will post on Dooney forum, when I get it together to take pics. Has anybody tried the inkBgone?

Hi, all! I'm thinking of trying an experiment and would like your opinions, thoughts, etc.

Found this bag on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/191978246232
and am thinking of trying a wild experiment with it. It's already pretty beat up and for the price, it might be worth a shot. This is the inspiration:

Using an eye dropper, I could "stain" it to have a watercolor effect, in theory. If all else failed, it could always go dark brown or black with dye, right?

Haha... I was just thinking about doing an ink blot stain effect the other day! But it was a vintage so didn't have the heart. Good thing I didn't own it already to start it.

ETA: I'd like to see this! Which bag are you going to do this on?

Thank you for suggesting these new products. I do not believe those pen marks were ever treated with anything, the whole liner was gross. Now with the exception of the ink the liner is perfect again. I will keep trying.

I never used to look at my purses or even think about them. All that has changed now. I know exactly how you felt sitting in the car with the stained purse on your lap. The same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago. We ate at a restaurant and something dripped on my purse. I could hardly wait to get it home and clean it. In fact I ended up giving it a bath!

The purse I carry when I want to relax is my blue Dooney Equestrian from the 80s. She's faded and soft and saggy in the middle, but I love her. I call her my rainy day bag,

My latest rehab is a Crescent bag. Occupational hazard: falling in love with the bag you thought you were going to rehab and sell. This color is amazing. It might be burnt orange or red. (Strap is mostly dry, bag still wet.)

I just picked this bag up at a thrift store...its black and super dry!!!! I'm waiting for authentication, but have already dunked it and waiting for it to dry! :)

never mind just saw its the Peyton. How are you going to get through the patent finish? Are you going to remove the patent finish... I'm not sure if it would work as is.

Oh, goodness! I wouldn't have the heart to go crazy with a vintage bag. The bag gods might strike me down, lol!

I figured since patent absorbs so much transfer, it would likely soak up the ink or paint applied to it. Maybe drop with an eye dropper and let it sit for a bit and then wiggle it around to sort of ombré the edges of the stain. I'm not sure exactly-would probably involve a bit of experimentation. Idk, figured it would be fun to try! [emoji4]
