So I sent this beauty to the specialist to get it rehabbed. It was so faded outside and not very vibrant as it shows on the drawstring pocket. I didn't realize how bad it was in person even though the seller emailed me to tell me it was in pretty bad condition. I saw the pictures and thought it looked fine. But it WAS worse in person. :( So I chose not to do the rehab myself.
The leather repair store told me they couldn't get a color match to redye the flap so I was quite heart broken and said I guess then I'll have to go with a different color! I chose red. Thought might be easier to go from pink to red. Then I had a change of heart and told them not to dye it red. To my surprise they told me they found a color match! It will be ready in a week. I can hardly wait!

@Couturexec I promised to show you the results of rehabbing my friends Lightweights Carryall Tote. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out!
I started by giving it a good scrub with Dawn dish liquid. It was filthy! After it dried I used Fiebing's Aussie Conditioner, but it was still very faded, so I followed the instructions here ( http://www.fiebing.com/tips/mixing-fiebings-leather-dye-and-prime-neatsfoot-oil-compound/ ) to dilute Fiebing's dye with Neatsfoot Oil. The result was odd as they didn't actually mix at all. You can see the little dye bubbles in floating in the oil in the pic. It did, however, work very well. I applied two coats, stirring the mixture often, with a disposable sponge brush and buffed off the excess. I'm so excited for her to see the results. I think it looks great!

It looks liked it worked well on gloved-tanned leather. Did you seal with resolene?

It looks fantastic! Yes, inquiring minds want to know about color transfer! [emoji846]
I've read over in leatherworkers.net that some people don't seal dye and just buff out excess without any problems. I've been too nervous to try it so very interested in your experience.

Hi, all! I'm thinking of trying an experiment and would like your opinions, thoughts, etc.

Found this bag on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/191978246232
and am thinking of trying a wild experiment with it. It's already pretty beat up and for the price, it might be worth a shot. This is the inspiration:

Using an eye dropper, I could "stain" it to have a watercolor effect, in theory. If all else failed, it could always go dark brown or black with dye, right?

Ohhh you got my wheels turning - I love that pattern!
Coincidentally, I accidentally did something similar just a few days ago so I think you could do it. I was trying to remove the patent coating on a wallet with acetone before dyeing. I rested it on a colored piece of cardboard while I was doing this and...
BTW, does anyone have tips on removing patent coating? I've tried nail polish remover and industrial acetone, scrubbing with a rag, and it still feels plastic-y and coated.

Oh my goodness!! Looks great! It really is such a great bag. It fits everything and makes a great travel bag. Bottle of water, a lightweight jacket and even some snacks and souvenirs. She will love it!
I'm interested in the steps after dying, too. Can you just seal with conditioner or need more than that? Would you do it again? Or was it a real mess?

I need your help ladies rehabbers, this is a first for me.
I was trying to remove some ink spots from the bottom on the liner of a vintage Sheridan Shelby, the usual brown fabric... the ink came out but now there are stains that feel hard, like instead of alcohol I used glue.... I am totally clueless of why, I have cleaned more of those liners and never had a problem. Any advice or suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
(after using the alcohol, I rinsed the liner).

The lining of the Sheridans is weird. I used acetone on one and the same thing happened. It actually melted the lining. I don't think there is anything you can do to fix it.

You might try TSP. I don't know if it would work but it is an industrial cleaner. A long time ago I saw a Youtube video of how to remove the coating, but I can't find it anymore.

Oh great! So in the future I won't try to remove the ink, because it makes things worse. I will stick to clean the regular gunk with detergent. Lesson learned

Thank you Whateve.
