I need your help ladies rehabbers, this is a first for me.
I was trying to remove some ink spots from the bottom on the liner of a vintage Sheridan Shelby, the usual brown fabric... the ink came out but now there are stains that feel hard, like instead of alcohol I used glue.... I am totally clueless of why, I have cleaned more of those liners and never had a problem. Any advice or suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
(after using the alcohol, I rinsed the liner).

The lining of the Sheridans is weird. I used acetone on one and the same thing happened. It actually melted the lining. I don't think there is anything you can do to fix it.

The same thing happened to me on a Madison Pierre, trying to remove a stain in the lining. I can't remember if I used alcohol or acetone. The liquid spread and removed the color from the fabric, leaving an even uglier stain. Both Sheridans and Madisons may have similar fabric linings, possibly rayon or acetate blends, which may dissolve in organic solvents like acetone and alcohol.

It looks liked it worked well on gloved-tanned leather. Did you seal with resolene?
There is a little bit of color transfer so I am going to seal it, I just have to order the resolene.
Oh my goodness!! Looks great! It really is such a great bag. It fits everything and makes a great travel bag. Bottle of water, a lightweight jacket and even some snacks and souvenirs. She will love it!
I'm interested in the steps after dying, too. Can you just seal with conditioner or need more than that? Would you do it again? Or was it a real mess?
I would definitely do it again. It wasn't very messy but I think that's because the dye is kind of suspended in the oil. I did wear gloves thought to avoid blue hands lol.

Anyone rehabbed red pre-creed bags? I just washed thee two red babies.. Holy moly they bleed like hell!
If you look at the handles of the tote they are cracked. Can they be rehabbed or they are pretty much dead and will stay as is?

beautiful bags! Those handles look very dry. I would moisturize them to death. You might have to seal them with something to prevent them from cracking more but that would be a last resort.

What is this second bag? Love that style....also what are you going to do to to about the darker bits of the handles (i'm dealing with that on some red handles also) as for the edges, on small areas I have been successful with lightly sanding (emery board) to even out the edges a bit and of course conditioning the bejezus out of 'em

Yup it's a dinky tote. Quite small really. I'd prefer the other two but haven't found a great price yet. This one I got for $66 and given I've never seen another one eBay I'd say it's pretty rare. The only other one I saw I snatched it up in burgundy color for $38. I love love love the burgundy color of the vintage coach bags! So pretty!

I am drying the bag now and the handles were already dry and hard so just put leather CPR on them so they won't be bone dry while the rest of the bag is drying. I must say though the red bags are even prettier shade when wet! They turn a beautiful cranberry red!

I just did my second rehab. I got a goat suede dusted metallic gold pleated hobo I've wanted for years then forgot about it then got it recently online. It wasn't in bad condition at all but it had some stains in the lining that I wanted to get rid of. Okay, I thought I'll just wash the lining. I wasn't going to scrub it really hard or anything....just give it a wash at least. Then the bag itself got slightly wet during the process. Hmmm, I thought, some areas are darker and some arent' in the spots that got wet. I decided to just give the entire thing a bath. I used a few squirts of foaming hand soap and worked it lightly onto the bag as I didn't know how this goat suede with dusted metallic surface would fare. I didn't scrub that part but I ran my fingers over it with the diluted soap and water. I rinsed it out and hung it to dry. Once it is dry enough to just lay on a towel I did that for 2 days, flipping it over once. I originally was going to just leave it hanging but I was concerned about it losing it's shape, etc. since it's goat suede. I think it's finally good to go to be used but I thought I'd ask here if I should treat it with anything before I take her out?

I didn't realize this suede could be washed. I thought the metallic would wear off. If it were mine, I'd spray it with some kind of protector, like Scotchguard or Shining Monkey.

Yup, you're probably like me and have a tad bit of perfectionism running through your veins...must. Be. Even. Lol
LOL.. my DH says I am not as OCD as I am when I am doing the work as opposed to when I am watching him hang stuff up on the wall.
I "sanded" with the nail file and was a bit worried about not having ANY patina but those years of gunk/oil/lotion are sunk in pretty good. After I put Leather CPR on and it looks like they have their patina back. I didn't want the handles to look brand new. It's a pre-creed and should look old according to its age. Um, what do you use to give the gloss back that I buffed off?

If you buff too much, you end up with a suede-like finish that will soak up any conditioner you put on and darken. I don't know of any way to restore the finish, short of using Leather Refinisher, which I would hate to use on a vintage bag.
