Hi Couturexec! I'm thinking about trying my first bag bath. What do you use in your bath? Is there a soap to water to vinegar ratio you found yo work best?

I use just a teaspoon or so of Dawn in my kitchen sink filled with water. On an especially dirty bag I'm working on now, I added a half a cup of cleaning strength white vinegar.
If you search this thread there are a couple tutorials. I think one contributor is "bunny" and the other is "Momtok". (Spellings might not be quite right.) I just do close to what they recommend.
I found a tutorial on Pinterest and that's what eventually led me to this forum.
Good luck! Everyone here is super helpful!

Thanks!! I'll give it a try and search for those contributors! I have been doing searches on the "recipe" but found a lot of references to dunking but didn't find details. Thanks for pointing me in the contributor direction!

Fellow noobs: Don’t fear the split piping repair! If I can do a halfway decent job, so can you! Some before/after shots below.

On this Murphy, I used a similar Liquitex gel medium method used by Joodlz (http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-clubhouse/coach-rehab-and-rescue-club-624452-656.html). Got mine at Joann’s in a little tub (get the matte) and applied with an artist brush. Patience really is key – I easily did 8-10 coats, lightly sanding with an emery board between each coat. I tinted the Liquitex with black Edge Kote to save a step.

I practiced first on a thrifted Kate Spade, which was a piping nightmare. Glued down the plastic piping tube with E6000 then stretched leather edges over it and glued. Then I started applying coats of tinted Liquitex, sanding between coats. Not perfect but perfectly usable!

Same process on the split Anderson’s piping as with the Murphy.

If only I could figure out how to insert text between photos...:shrugs:
Wow, this is amazing:tup:. Thanks for sharing Ravvie99! :ty:

I've got a Legacy Duffle tassel with a connector strap that is hanging-on-by-a-thread (literally!). The tassels themselves are fine so I thought I'd ask the Rehab Brain Trust how it might be saved. You guys are so crafty and inventive - I love it!
I've been thinking about covering the 2 damaged spots with some silver sliders, adding 3 more so they're evenly spaced around the strap and it looks intentional :graucho: I guess I'd have to cut the strap completely in one spot, put all the connectors on, cement the damaged areas, then move the sliders into place.
Anyone have any thoughts??

Hey Ravvie99 saw this an thought of you

http://www.shopgoodwill.com/viewItem.asp?ItemID=31354935 i know it's not the same color but maybe it would work???:confused1:

Bought this and would like to fix the edges. I have only done the most basic of rehabs before (wash and condition). What's the best approach for this repair? Leather glue and meltonian? Appreciate any and all guidance!

Yes, I believe those duffel kit tassels are the same ones as mine. I'm stalking those kits online but the carnelian ones I've found all cost more than I paid for the bag!
Still considering repairing but thanks for reminding me to check that site [emoji846]

I'd like opinions....
After the run around with an eBay purchase I finally received the skinny flight bag that Whateve authenticated for me.
It's GORGEOUS! So much better than I thought. (This is the bag I'm making the shoulder strap for.) Absolutely no wear in the interior. My DD and I did a quick vacuum and it's perfect inside.
The exterior has just the tiniest bit of patina. No stains.
Should I dunk it anyway? Will the leather benefit from it? Or should I just give it a through 3 product conditioning?
What would you do?

Great find. The bag looks really dried out. I would dunk it. I find that the leather "plumps up" after dunking and better absorbs conditioning.

Yes, I would dunk. It will plump it up and make it absorb conditioners, just like coach943 said. You may not need to use any soap, and just soak long enough to get it completely saturated.

Hey ladies, I wanted to share a redye with you. A black Court Bag that was turning grey along the edges. The after photo shows glare from the light, but I promise she's jet black now! Here ya go! View attachment 3411427View attachment 3411428
It looks great! What kind of dye did you use? Did you dye the entire bag or just the places that needed it?
Ok. Thanks coach943 and Whateve for the push! I'm so afraid to dunk something so light.
