I mentioned the doubling because I have the same buckles on my shoulder sac, with a straight strap, and although I can fit both ends into one buckle it is so tight I wouldn't recommend it.

I love the tapered shape of the strap on the classic pouch. I wish they did that on the newer bags that were supposedly inspired by this bag.

Me too.

Interesting comment about the strap on your shoulder sac. I have my eye on one and was wondering if the strap could be doubled. Now I know!

I love my shoulder sac. It is the perfect size for me. I can't carry a duffle sac as it just looks ridiculously huge on me. This one has a slim shape so it looks much better. It took me a while to get used to the longer drop but now I like it.

I'm drawn to it for the same reason...slimmer profile, smaller size. I'll post here if I win it...my next rehab project.

I do have one at hand (in fact I'm carrying it today!) and yes, the strap does taper to about 1" wide at the ends. It's possible to squeeze both skinny ends of the strap into one buckle, but because the strap is wider in the middle, the wider part won't fit through the other buckle to permit doubling the strap.

Thank you! It was my first vintage Coach, found by pure luck in a local thrift store for $20. It was in excellent condition but needed reshaping so I dunked it. I was hooked!

bummer, so much for my dreams of a short trapped bag. oh well, can't wait to get my hands on it and clean it up nicely. a dunk and some conditioning should do, right?

It should clean up nicely. I'm not seeing pics of the inside, but if there are no ink spots or mystery stains, it should be a pretty simple rehab. Enjoy!

Ok no laughing.......any idea how to repair this???? Besides the obvious paint the bare spots to match and make less noticeable?

No, but I'd be curious to see if you come up with something! Maybe you could find some fur to match and glue it on? I think they might have haircalf at some stores that carry leather, like Tandy, then you could dye it to match, and add a patch.

Catbird9, I love the color of your classic pouch. Is it putty or tabac?

I'm not sure. It doesn't really match any of the known colors. First picture below shows various NYC "tan" bags that I've rehabbed, and the second pic shows two bags that I definitely would call Putty (the Dinky on the left) and Tabac (the Shoulder Purse on the right), plus color swatches.
