Don't you sometimes want to send the seller a picture?

I was very tempted to send a photo but decided to leave well enough alone. I picked up another Sheridan Thursday night. It was listed as a Coach ladies handbag - no other info at all but I was not going to let it get away. :D I've attached a photo of what looks to me like a Greensboro. I think it will clean up nicely.

BTW did you check the "finds" page? There is an exquisite Maple Bristol up for sale. I need someone to buy it so I won't! I already have a Bristol in scarlet so don't need another one but it is sooooo pretty!
I did. I must resist. It is gorgeous but I don't need any more purses and I need to stop spending for awhile.

Awww thanks so much chowlover! So there's two dog lovers on this list! :smile1: The piping needs work as there is breakthrough on the front corners but I can fix that once I finish with the blue. I used a bit of Leather CPR and some Meltonian navy on it. I love the Meltonian cream as I can blend colors if needed and it doesn't clog up the finish.
Make that at least 3 dog lovers! I've been a dog lover all my life. I lost my baby over a year ago. He was the sweetest dog ever. I don't think I'll ever get over losing him. I think ledobe loves dogs too.

Now I'm wondering if Meltonian would be better than Leather Refinisher for me. I have a slim tote that needs something that covers well and I would love to use olive. They don't have an olive in Leather Refinisher so I would have to mix. Would the Meltonian cover completely or is it just for enhancing the color?

Same here! I just checked the Elliot in my room and in that light it has a greenish cast to it. In the daylight it is a true navy. There is an Elliot on eBay that has a greenish cast too so perhaps the lighting is what makes the difference.

You love dogs too? How awesome is that?? The olive green Meltonian is perfect for the older green bags. It adds color and completely hides scratches. The black Richmond I got looks great on the outside but on the inside of one of the open pockets, there was an area that looked light to medium gray. Something took the color out of it. It took three coats of Meltonian to cover it but no one would ever know it had a problem.

I used medium brown on the 4202 and the color is perfect. I need to work on the brown Lariat tomorrow. It's weird because "brown" is darker than medium brown but lighter than dark brown! I need some light tan and some British tan as well as another jar of the neutral.

A question for those in the know. Has anyone tried Brasso on the turnlocks?
I use Brasso with fine steel wool. The results are just meh. I don't really have any magic solution to cleaning brass.

Of course, it's awesome! My daughter didn't inherit my love of dogs. When I was a kid, I begged and begged for a dog. My father probably wouldn't have gone to the trouble to pick out the best dog for our family, but one day someone brought some puppies to the golf course and we ended up with a dalmation. I was a "late reader" in school (meaning I didn't start school until 9:30 or 10:00 in the morning.) My job was to keep the dog quiet in the morning until my dad woke up. Everyday the two of us would sit together, and he got hugged and petted the entire time.

My dog that died last year was a golden retriever mix. He spent his life making me happy.

My slim tote was probably originally putty but something I did to it made it look a little olive and I liked the way it looked. As long as I have to dye it, I like the idea of making it a more unique color. I'm a little worried about using a polish rather than a dye but I have sort of destroyed the surface of the leather by sanding it, so hopefully this will help fix the texture as well as the color.

I am so sorry to hear that you lost your golden retriever. It's the one thing I hate about dogs. They leave us much too soon. One of my little kids passed away yesterday. His name was Timmy and he was adorable. I have quite a few dogs here and each one is special. Several are quite elderly. It's just the way it is. We love them as long as we have them and hang on to the happy memories.

Back to Coach purses. It you want to change the color of a bag, try the Meltonian spray. If you aren't sure about the color, mix it with some neutral in case you want to remove it. I have no idea how it will work on pebbled leather though. I used the vanilla with some saddle soap to create a shade of ivory for a Sheridan and it worked well but the area that needed it was smooth from wear. I covered perfectly and the bag looks great.

My cat is trying his best to be my dog now. When I would throw something for Dusty to retrieve, after he got old, the cat would get to it first and just sit there, thoroughly confusing the dog.

My bag is a 1970s smooth leather tote. The leather is pretty stiff. Have you used it on regular, nonpebbled, leather before? I don't want it to end up too shiny. One of the reasons, I want to dye it olive is because it is pretty close to the current color. The inside will look a little different but it won't be super obvious, like it would if I dyed it black.

Is the Meltonian colorfast? I used to use it on my favorite black dress shoes a long time ago, but I got caught in a rain storm, and my shoes turned gray. I took them to a shoe shine guy, and he worked his magic on them for me and told me not to polish with Meltonian. I've been afraid to touch it since. Have you had any issues with it being colorfast? Do you put anything on top of it to seal it?

I've used the Meltonian on smooth leather as well and it depends on how much you buff it but it doesn't come out super shiny. Your cat sounds very cool. :-) I have four cats and they stay indoors.

I haven't used it on shoes although I might. I don't understand why black shoes would turn gray but sometimes weird stuff does happen. It works wonders on handbags though and I got it from the local leather shop. There is a clear spray you can try that seals the leather and puts a shine on it. I've never tried it though.

Your Carlyle is lovely and I don't have one although I do have several of the vintage Madisons. Now I really want a Carlyle! :smile1:

Unfortunately I can't claim glory for the Carlyle, it belongs to Beccabaglady who did an amazing job on rehabbing her. I have the red Sheridan Savannah which I'm working up the courage to dunk. I definitely recommend getting one. She's a lovely shape and size.
ETA: I see that you did get one and a great colour and price. Well done!

Same here. I use Brasso and it does clean off the tarnish but it's not amazing. Beccabaglady had great results with sandpaper on her Carlyle.

So sorry about the loss of your buddy, Whateve.

I'm a general animal lover but a newbie dog owner. Always had a cat when I was a kid but my kids and DH are allergic to cats, guinea pigs, rabbits and hairy dogs, so we had to choose a non-shedding "woolly" pooch and I didn't want a big breed - bit scared of big dogs. Henri is my avatar - a red toy poodle - and he's an absolute joy. Still a pup at 18 months, full of energy and loves everybody. Though pets live shorter lives than us I guess the upside is we can have the privilege of caring for a number of them during our own lifetime.

loving all the rehabs going on here. I'm learning so much from all the ladies here.

Just wanted to chime in...I'm a dog lover too and currently have FIVE. Three Boston Terriers, an old Lab mix and a French Bulldog. I need to change my avatar to a pic with all the dogs in it. I work in Boston Terrier and French Bulldog Rescue. I foster, transport, do home visits...it's my vocation and I love it.

I had to adopt my last foster, a 10 year old Boston who'd been bought and sold too many times, given away and finally abandoned. Couldn't figure that out...he was the perfect American Gentleman...manners, potty trained, no dog or food aggression. You know the drill. Everybody wants a puppy. Adopters don't know what they're missing.

Back to business...purses. Buying, selling, rehabbing...and on and on. Just wanted to put my two cents in. LOL Oh, the pup in my avatar is Zayda. She turns ten in April and she started it all.

What a great job! Good on you. I love hearing about people who are able to fulfill their passion through their work.

Great saying to live by: "I aspire to be the person my dog thinks I am". Groucho Marx and Marilyn Monroe had some good sayings about dogs too!

Ahhh ... Dogs and Handbags, what more does a woman need ............?

Back to bags, I dunked my Sheridan Savannah today and hung her under cover outside. Three hours later she was dry enough for the first coat of Leather Therapy. I'll post pics when I'm done but so far I'm pleased with the result. Minimal colour loss in the dunking process, the lining is clean, and I think (fingers crossed) the dark mark on the front has gone.
