Here's the Carlyle. I am tickled pink with the disappearance of the dents in the flap. There isn't even the slightest evidence of them ever being there!

I am also thrilled with how the female part of the turnlock came out with the sanding. I left the male portion undone so that you could see the difference. A lovely brushed effect that will remain even if I have to polish it again!

Here are her wrinkles - much better! I have a little brown spot that I need to touch up, but I think she came out great! Just need to finish her hardware, and she's ready to go out on the town. :)

Ooops, forgot to add the wrinkle pic:

Just lovely...I wonder if the wrinkles might just relax a little by wearing her. Hurry and finish the hardware..take her out on the town!

Good afternoon everyone. As some of you know, I recently purchased a "teal" blue Sheridan Elliot. I finally bought it because I was 99% sure it was not teal blue and I felt sorry for it. It arrived yesterday and I started work on it today. It is not finished by any means but I am really pleased with how it looks so far. The inside of the flap looked even worse than the outside. I've attached before and after photos. I hope you like what's been done so far.

GORGEOUS...If you have time, could you share your technique, products used, etc.? I'm always hungry for helpful hints...Your results are stunning!

Dunk it? No dunking. lol It didn't need anymore stress than it already had. I cleaned it up with Leather CPR and then used Meltonian navy. I was shocked at how it came out. I need to fix the piping on the front corners so was thinking of painting it to match the rest of the tan unless someone has a better idea.

Do you mean Meltonian Boot & Shoe cream? I have some from my MIL, but haven't used it on a bag.

Wow, what a great job! She's beautiful!

What a great job. She's gorgeous! I presume the turn lock is solid brass? You couldn't do that with brass plated hardware could you?

The turnlock was brass with some sort of antiqueing on top that gave it a brushed look. When I removed some of the corrosion, the finish was off underneath and it was smooth brass. I really liked the brushed look, so I figured I had nothing to lose with trying the sandpaper. In something that's plated, it would definitely take the plating off, so if you don't know what's underneath, wouldn't recommend it.

Good morning ladies, this is the back side of an off-white satin wristlet that has some stains of unknown origin (I haven't seen it in person yet). They don't look fresh to me, so I have a feeling using a coach fabric cleaner won't do any good. Any ideas and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I just want to do it the most efficient way from the start, because I'm afraid if I don't do it right, the stains will set in permanently. And since it's not a pure white color, I'm hesitant to use anything containing chlorine which can cause discoloration. Sorry, I don't have any better pictures. Thanks a lot in advance!

A question for those in the know. Has anyone tried Brasso on the turnlocks?

I love animals in general, but I have a huge soft spot for dogs. We always had one growing up, and I had a bad habit of "rescuing" neglected dogs when I was older. My last one was a Samoyed/Golden mix that the lady in the apartment below me kept on her balcony 24/7. He was adorable, and I used to lean over the edge of my balcony to fill his water dish and throw him dog treats. Finally after several unseasonably cold nights (I was in Atlanta at the time), I couldn't stand it anymore and knocked on her door to tell her I'd take him if she didn't want him anymore. She handed him right over. We can't keep pets anymore because my allergies have gotten so bad. :crybaby:Now I just visit all of the neighbors' dogs.

Back to the original question: I used Brasso on the last two bags. I apply a good coat with a Q-Tip, let it dry for a while, then buff it off with a soft cloth. Since tarnish is a chemical reaction that happens over time, I figure the polish needs a little time to work its magic. I was a bartender for seven years, so I have spent a lot of time polishing brass rails - turnlocks are way easier, lol!

Yes ledobe likes dogs. I lost my last dobe a couple years ago and decided to wait awhile before getting another. With my kids moved out and my husband traveling so much for work I am enjoying having a little freedom for the first time ever. And I really do mean the first time! I'm really excited about a weekend road trip I'll be taking next week that would not be happening if I had to find a dog sitter. I really miss having a dog but I'm enjoying a little break.

Also somewhere in this thread someone mentioned that I might have been the one who redid some cracked piping. Not me. That's one battle I refuse to take on!

Thanks so much for the information! I am going to give the Brasso a try. It used to work beautifully on our saddles and bridles so should work on the handbags.

Thanks for the info. I think I am going to try a bit of acrylic paint on one bag as it is barely noticeable. I have another with a small area but it is a more serious problem so may take it in to the leather shop.

The Sheridan has black tubing under the leather while the Dakota has leather over the leather bag - two different types of piping. The Sheridan will be an easy fix but the Dakota will need more than I can do to repair it.

I would try spot cleaning with the coach fabric cleaner first, I have found the Coach sateen fabric to be very resilient and cleans up very well with fabric cleaner. If that doesn't work you could try spot cleaning with ivory dish soap. Good luck!

You might try some Resolve Multi-fabric cleaner on it in an inconspicuous place. I use it all the time on fabric linings and it works wonders. I have never tried it on something like white satin though.

Hi rehabers!! I have a couple of consignment store finds that need some care.

The mini skinny has a small rust colored stain and needs a general cleaning. I'm not sure what to clean it with.

The wristlet had a few spots on it. I'm tempted to bathe it, but it's fabric lined.

So sorry about the loss of your buddy, Whateve.

I'm a general animal lover but a newbie dog owner. Always had a cat when I was a kid but my kids and DH are allergic to cats, guinea pigs, rabbits and hairy dogs, so we had to choose a non-shedding "woolly" pooch and I didn't want a big breed - bit scared of big dogs. Henri is my avatar - a red toy poodle - and he's an absolute joy. Still a pup at 18 months, full of energy and loves everybody. Though pets live shorter lives than us I guess the upside is we can have the privilege of caring for a number of them during our own lifetime.
Thank you.

I've always loved dogs but really all animals. When my kids were little, I went overboard with the pets. We had blue-belly lizards, hamsters, mice, guinea pigs, an iguana, and a cockatiel. Later I got a rabbit. Now I just have a cat, Twinkie, and a tortoise, Charlie.
loving all the rehabs going on here. I'm learning so much from all the ladies here.

Just wanted to chime in...I'm a dog lover too and currently have FIVE. Three Boston Terriers, an old Lab mix and a French Bulldog. I need to change my avatar to a pic with all the dogs in it. I work in Boston Terrier and French Bulldog Rescue. I foster, transport, do home visits...it's my vocation and I love it.

I had to adopt my last foster, a 10 year old Boston who'd been bought and sold too many times, given away and finally abandoned. Couldn't figure that out...he was the perfect American Gentleman...manners, potty trained, no dog or food aggression. You know the drill. Everybody wants a puppy. Adopters don't know what they're missing.

Back to business...purses. Buying, selling, rehabbing...and on and on. Just wanted to put my two cents in. LOL Oh, the pup in my avatar is Zayda. She turns ten in April and she started it all.
You have my dream job!

I have horrible allergies but, luckily, animal fur isn't one of those things I'm allergic to. I'm allergic to dust and pollen. They are both impossible to avoid, especially since I live in farm country.

I know exactly what you mean! My cat is "special." He hates the kennel and they hate him. My daughter is graduating law school this year in New York and we are planning to take our time driving back, so this time I'm leaving him with my other daughter. I really want another dog, but we want to be able to travel. That's what is so great about Charlie - he is fine left on his own, but unfortunately, he isn't cuddly.

I accidentally ended up with bags with holes in the piping. I have a convertible clutch that I got at Saver's. I thought I had looked it over carefully but when I got home, I found out the turnlock was loose. Then after I completely rehabbed it, it wasn't until I was putting on the final coat of Blackrocks that I noticed the holes in the piping. Maybe I'm getting too old for this!

I would wash both of them in the sink with dishwashing liquid. If the rust colored stain is rust, I don't think it will come off. Maybe it's makeup. I would work on that first before the bath. You could try Soilove.
